  • We stopped for a few days in the town of Franz Josef on our way down the west coast of New Zealand's South Island. While most famous for its glacier (for which the town is named) there is so much more explore in the area! Enjoy this video compiling a few hikes we took during our visit - several lookouts at Franz Josef, a hike to Wombat Lake (a "kettle lake" formed when the glacier retreated over 10,000 years ago), Callery Gorge with a rickety swing bridge across glacial blue waters, and a walk to Tatare Tunnels - which you can actually walk through and see New Zealand's native glow worms if you're willing to get your feet wet!
