      I don't know about any :p really depends what you do. I run virtual machines at work on my laptop and my 16gb was maxed out, which is why I upgraded to 32gb. Without it my work takes longer to do, and at work time literally equals money, so upgrading in that case was worth it. For games though 16gb seems to be a pretty good amount.

    can anyone tell us why the 8gb ram stick outperformed the 32gb and 16gb sticks in some cases ?
    is it because he used more ram sticks and thus less coordination between them ?

    • @lukeyhas3276

      most likely because alot of the games benchmarked here are not ram dependent. if you are playing bigger games with large map sizes, (eg. rust and ark, most battle royale games, heavy modded) you should see much better framerate. its just good to have more ram overall :)

    • @JarrodsTech
      @JarrodsTech  6 лет назад +4

      What graphics does the laptop have? Any Nvidia/AMD GPU? If not you're probably just using the built in Intel integrated graphics, if so there's not too much you can do to improve that (more RAM/moving from single to dual channel can help a little).

    • @BlueberryDaily
      @BlueberryDaily 6 лет назад +3

      Jarrod'sTech I'm guessing it's the integrated. I might change the ram up but I heard about a software called Razer cortex or something that can boost FPS. Do you happen to know about that or anything similar?

      I don't have any experience with that software so not too sure, sorry. I haven't tested any software like that, I guess I'm fine with just removing any bloat installed / running programs I don't need to have the best experience, there's only so much you can do with optimization so I'm not too sure what various software solutions can do to really help.

    My laptop had originally one stick of 8GB DDR4 2400MHZ , I added one more stick of 16 GB , so I now have a total of 24 GB , I didn't notice any difference in most games but in gta v it game me + 10 % avg fps & + 20% minimum fps , the biggest performance boost was at just cause 3 , it did not gavee me lots of additional average FPS but it got rid of ALL the frame drops and lags ( sometimes the game with 8GB of ram would Freeze completely for every few seconds of game play).
    -In conclusion if you have 8 GB of RAM and you are in a tight budget you are totally fine (better opt for a higher end GPU as said in the video) ,anything less than 8 GB isn't enough for modern AAA titles , but anything more than 16 GB is overkill for modern gaming as of 2017

      Going to an SSD will definitely make the largest performance difference, but yeah 4gb these days doesn't get you far with modern web browsers with more tabs so more memory could definitely help out, when you notice it slow you could check the usage in task manager and see if it's all almost in use, then you'll know for sure that more would be beneficial

      Thanks! 8gb is ok, 16gb is a much better sweet spot going into 2020 though. I haven't tested the m15 R2 because they still haven't sent it over, but I thought there was still 1x slot for upgrades? If that's the case not too bad, if it's 8gb and you're stuck, I wouldn't buy it at all ever.

      Graphics card upgrade will give you more of an improvement compared to RAM size, unless you're using all your memory. That said going from single channel to dual channel will also improve things a bit, see the pinned comment video link for more information on that.

      Hmm not sure, I feel like it wouldn't help too much if you already use an SSD, as when the RAM fills up the page file probably already exists on the SSD, so it would be used for excess RAM space anyway?

      Nah I don't think so, you might have some issues with some games on max settings though like I did with Watchdogs 2, but you could just turn the settings down a little and in most cases 8gb works alright. If you have a spare slot for another 8gb stick and can find one for a good price it could be a nice upgrade though that may make a little improvement.

      i5 will be an improvement, but still in general the GPU is what usually does the majority of the work, so a better one will give better game play, depends on the game though of course, some are more CPU than GPU intensive for instance.
