He doesn’t sound laid back or mischievous he actually sounds incredibly real- like he WANTS Odysseus to make it back- and takes care in stating caution.
YES! My first draft he was way more mischievous (because he sounded like that in the demo i was working with) but I scrapped all of that after the official release because he sounded so much softer to me! Like, this is him comforting/encouraging Ody! I’m super happy that came across! 😊

(Odysseus probably falls asleep at night so Hermes pulls on his blanket, Hermes hands Odysssus an owl emblem which he then wears on his cape) it’s these little things you thought of that make the animatic so endearing.
@ yes! I think youre the first to verbally point out the pin Ody wears in the end is the same one got from Hermes in the end! I didnt have time to work this in properly, but in my head, the cape Ody is wearing later on is the same cloth Hermes conjured as a blanket for him! 😌
I love the little fact that, at the start, we see hermes with his regular helmet, wich means that's how he usually appears to mortals. However, when he appeared in front of ody, he immediately took off his helmet and put on glasses, which shows that hermes and ody have a close enough relationship to be comfortable with eachother.
Yeah this is one of the fan canon things that I really like, and also makes for a really emotional moment (the hair tuck thing is just goofy, but it shows he's okay with adopting fan canons) First scilla, now orange, I hope animators catch on to this trend cuz its a really good one.

I LOVE Hermes taking care of Ody, instructing him on how to keep in the right path and defending him. I know Hermes is a trickster and a messenger but he's also the god the closest to humans and heros, and all their issues, and is also a good, cunning, scary fighter. And, over all, an Olympian. HERMES TUCKING HIM IN AND PROTECTING HIM.... THE HUG.... THE EARNESTNESS... This is the BEST depiction of Hermes I've seen yet! Yes, he may be a trickster, but Odysseus is his own flesh and blood and I bet he was one of the gods who wanted him to get home the most. I really like the detail that while Penelope's face is drawn very clearly(because Odysseus remembers her) telemachus's face is blurred because Odysseus doesn't even know how his own son looks like as he missed telemachus's entire life.
I love this animatic, as it shows how much Hermes actually wants Ody to succeed, the little head pats and moment of covering Ody with the blanket is so sweet. I think people often forget that Odysseus is a descendant of Hermes and the Hermes is the god of travelers. Making Hermes evolvement more grounded and make sense as often the gods don’t help with out reason or for something in return.
All the little details are amazing, such as Hermes scaring the sirens, and the alluding to 600 strike. Massive props for getting this out so fast, with such amazing detail and creative shots/angles! Also Hermes sunglasses and jacket are my fav, gotta love fruity Hermes being a chaotic menace ❤

No praises I can add to this that hadn't already been said by others. The way the trickster God attempts to convey genuine earnestness and genuine support towards Odysseus behind a thin air of mischief that occasionally he lets dissipate due to the sheer gravity of the situation- the fact that his domain as the God of Travel is portrayed to perfection, especially when he keeps his descendant safe on his journey either by scaring off harpies, assisting him by manifesting his sword, and even showing him how to lift his hand to navigate- how _proud_ he looked when he saw that Odysseus was determined to get home and wasn't just going to give up. Definitely one of my favorite animatics of this song!
0:29 love Hermes switching from helmet to sunglasses for no reason except ~vibes~. Expressions are on point throughout the whole video! Ody's slightly exasperation as Hermes swirls him around, the slight panic at him casually tearing apart the raft, Hermes' occasional serious faces (especially at 1:06 and 2:12 (be still my heart)), Odysseus at 2:42 and forward, his soft expression at 3:13... Telemachus' face being hidden because Odyssues doesn't know what he looks like 😭 1:39-1:50 I never considered that this could refer to anything other than the suitors. Being about Poseidon is lowkey brilliant - it's like Hermes can't outright warn Ody about him, but he can at least give some encouragement and advice. (and the headbump aaaw) The hug. The winions joining the hug aaaw "Every trick, every skill put to use for this" and there's Athena's pendant. I see you. 3:07 Favorite shot! One last "aww" for the hair ruffling. I had some thoughts about the last shot being zoomed out enough to show Odysseus all alone, but it got derailed by the next pic. What made me think "when danger greets you with a smile" is talking about Poseidon and not Charybdis (as many think and I used to) is how in the livestream animatic opening for Get in the Water, it starts with Poseidon grinning at Ody. "When strangers lurk around the Isle" I think does refer to the Suitors tho, because they're strangers to Ody, while Poseidon isn't.

I love how much Hermes gets to care about Ody in this one--he's still a fruity lil trickster god of a man, but hes also staying with Ody for a lot of the journey. Which is probably super needed, I dont imagine Ody would do very well mentally if he was just left with the silence. Its just such good characterization, you did a great job! Plus Hermes' movement is also just really smooth and expressive, and I love your design for him! Wonderful wonderful work as always!
The best Dangerous animatic hands down. Hermes looks gorgeous! I love the wings on his head turning into feather earrings. Truly showing how genuine he is in helping Ody. Hermes taking care of things while Odysseus sleeps. THE HUG!! I LOVE IT EVERYTIME This animatic really put emphasis on the time they spend together, making the friendship hit harder and feel more touching. I loved every second of it and the animation was so smooth.
Okay, I love this so much. This might be the first version to make me tear up. First: The foreshadowing. You are the first person to make me realise the "isle" in question was never Ogygia, but Ithaca. Second: Hermes helping Odysseus on at least a part of his journey. Really, all of it. Not just mischief, but Hermes is the god of travelers. Finally: The closeness and care Hermes gives him. As much as I love Odysseus fighting off and/or killing the monsters along the way, him needing sleep was so human. Hermes just _menacing_ the harpies away so he can sleep feels like a protective caretaker or relative. I just love all of this and other little aspects in this You are a wonder, and this animatic is amazing! Fantastic job!

Someone said in a comment below that hes a trickster, we all know that but here you really show how hes a true friend to Ody and cares about him. I am screaming at how you designed Ody. A lot of other animatics make it seem like hes apprehensive to see Hermes make a return, but you make ody actually excited! Make him happy to finally see a friendly face! And that moment with him falling asleep and Hermes tucking him in is just gorgeous!

Hermes is my favorite of the gods (and I've prayed to him before) so I love animatics like this that show hints at a bit more depth to him. Like, I love how after he breaks the raft (and Ody's all confused and slightly offended) but right in the next scene it's not trickster silly Hermes anymore it's SERIOUS like the gravity of the situation is so real that even the trickster is talking to him straight. Also adore him taking on his 'protector of travelers' role. And the HUG More animatics adding in The Hug is literally my favorite thing. Man I love this song.
Just the way the colour leaves when the song gets a bit serious and emotional is everything to me. Just really emphasizes how serious it is and how serious Hermes, the trickster, is taking this. he just wants to help.

Oh my goodness! I absolutely adored this! The artstyle, how many shots you drew which made for a more dynamic animatic and more exciting experience. I loved so many details you put in this! The broach of an owl, that should've been a sign for Oddyseus who had his back, the boat instead of a raft, which was a bit of a flex of power on Hermes's part but it also showed how perceptive he was and how much genuinely cared for Oddyseus's success. I could go on and on about details like this. And the fact how you potrayed Hermes (his personality and design)! He was playful, but had also his serious moments when needed. I also love the active and supportive role you gave him in Odysseus's journey back to home. A really well thought out work, great job! Thank you for making this! ❤

An ongoing thing/joke I kept telling my friends while working on this was "Hermes refuses to let any descendent of his to sail across the entire ocean in a tiny ass raft! That's just shameful!" 🫡

I love animatics like this that explore the paternal caring side of Hermes as grandfather of Odysseus. Ody has been through a lot and clearly needs a break, but every time he's doing so bad, the messenger god is there to cheer him up and take care of him. This truly warmed my heart. 💗💗💗
I love the take that Hermes was at least a little sympathetic to Ody and was there looking over him and helping him in the ways he could... Like giving him a pendent of prrotection, making a better ship for him, the pulling the blanket over him and watching over him while he sleeps, when he hugs him it's tight he's holding him by the head like a dad giving a child a big hug making them feel safe. It shows a side of Hermes a lot of people forget due to his trickster nature
All the comments are doing an excellent job bringing up all the other best moments but I want to point out how devastatingly cool Hermes at 1:06 (+1:09 & 1:10). There are more standout moments later in the song but I adore that you can see even while he's still in silly mode how sincere he is. (2:46 gives me a huge smile)
What I like most about what you did is that you captured the relationship that one would expect from Hermes and Odysseus, Hermes is not only the god of travelers but at the same time he is Odysseus' great grandfather, the fact that he protects him, cares so much for him and even cares so much that he gets home since he knows what he went through is an incredible detail, mainly because at least in versions of the myth when Hermes helps Odysseus the first time with Circe he does it without any other god asking him to, he does it because he genuinely wants Odysseus to get off the island (That is precisely why in the myth when Odysseus is climbing Hermes insists so much that he must secure the sword and eat Moly for his safety even when Odysseus denies it because it is poisonous) seeing that dynamic in an animatic between the two is a breath of fresh air
I love this animatic so much, how you can feel Hermes's genuine care for odysseus, is kin. Hes had to watch his great grandson go through all this, unable to help unless one of the *other* gods sends him help. The scene where he gives him a cover after Ody passes out ugh ❤❤❤❤

Imma say it- this song was always hard to animate, i have seen all other amazing creators sort of... finding it hard to advance the story with such a static song (meaning there is no action, its a dialogue). I LOVED how with a few changes, you elevated that. Athenas token given back to him is a big deal. Hermes destroying his make shift raft was awesome- whatever Odysseus prepared was NOT enough. He needs to treat this seriously. The hug at the bag? YES they are sort of related actually, while he cant change his fate, Hermes actually care about Ody making it home. It also hits amazing with the lyric/revelation that he would never have been able to pass the storm without aeolus- the hug kind of echoes back to act 3. Beauuutiful work 👏

I was struggling a lot really early on when I was working with the demo because of that. I know Hermes is a trickster and a messenger but he's also the god the closest to humans and heros, and all their issues, and is also a good, cunning, scary fighter. And, over all, an Olympian. Herald of Zeus and his right hand. He's basically everywhere and anywhere, doing everything and anything. Is a bit frustrating when he's trapped in that "clown role". Bro he's basically BARBIE

Yes, he may be a trickster, but Odysseus is his own flesh and blood and I bet he was one of the gods who wanted him to get home the most. Not to mention he's actually *acting* like Odysseus' relative. In every other animatic, I only ever got 'unhinged bestie' vibes. Seeing Hermes love and care for Odysseus is just SO GOOD. I really like the detail that while Penelope's face is drawn very clearly(because Odysseus remembers her) telemachus's face is blurred because Odysseus doesn't even know how his own son looks like as he missed telemachus's entire life.
I love this animatic, as it shows how much Hermes actually wants Ody to succeed, the little head pats and moment of covering Ody with the blanket is so sweet. I think people often forget that Odysseus is a descendant of Hermes and the Hermes is the god of travelers. Making Hermes evolvement more grounded and make sense as often the gods don’t help with out reason or for something in return.
All the little details are amazing, such as Hermes scaring the sirens, and the alluding to 600 strike. Massive props for getting this out so fast, with such amazing detail and creative shots/angles! Also Hermes sunglasses and jacket are my fav, gotta love fruity Hermes being a chaotic menace ❤

No praises I can add to this that hadn't already been said by others. The way the trickster God attempts to convey genuine earnestness and genuine support towards Odysseus behind a thin air of mischief that occasionally he lets dissipate due to the sheer gravity of the situation- the fact that his domain as the God of Travel is portrayed to perfection, especially when he keeps his descendant safe on his journey either by scaring off harpies, assisting him by manifesting his sword, and even showing him how to lift his hand to navigate- how _proud_ he looked when he saw that Odysseus was determined to get home and wasn't just going to give up. Definitely one of my favorite animatics of this song!

What made me think "when danger greets you with a smile" is talking about Poseidon and not Charybdis (as many think and I used to) is how in the livestream animatic opening for Get in the Water, it starts with Poseidon grinning at Ody.
"When strangers lurk around the Isle" I think does refer to the Suitors tho, because they're strangers to Ody, while Poseidon isn't.

I love how much Hermes gets to care about Ody in this one--he's still a fruity lil trickster god of a man, but hes also staying with Ody for a lot of the journey. Which is probably super needed, I dont imagine Ody would do very well mentally if he was just left with the silence. Its just such good characterization, you did a great job! Plus Hermes' movement is also just really smooth and expressive, and I love your design for him! Wonderful wonderful work as always!

Okay, I love this so much. This might be the first version to make me tear up.
First: The foreshadowing. You are the first person to make me realise the "isle" in question was never Ogygia, but Ithaca.
Second: Hermes helping Odysseus on at least a part of his journey. Really, all of it. Not just mischief, but Hermes is the god of travelers.
Finally: The closeness and care Hermes gives him. As much as I love Odysseus fighting off and/or killing the monsters along the way, him needing sleep was so human. Hermes just _menacing_ the harpies away so he can sleep feels like a protective caretaker or relative.
I just love all of this and other little aspects in this

Hermes is my favorite of the gods (and I've prayed to him before) so I love animatics like this that show hints at a bit more depth to him. Like, I love how after he breaks the raft (and Ody's all confused and slightly offended) but right in the next scene it's not trickster silly Hermes anymore it's SERIOUS like the gravity of the situation is so real that even the trickster is talking to him straight. Also adore him taking on his 'protector of travelers' role. And the HUG More animatics adding in The Hug is literally my favorite thing.

Oh my goodness! I absolutely adored this! The artstyle, how many shots you drew which made for a more dynamic animatic and more exciting experience. I loved so many details you put in this! The broach of an owl, that should've been a sign for Oddyseus who had his back, the boat instead of a raft, which was a bit of a flex of power on Hermes's part but it also showed how perceptive he was and how much genuinely cared for Oddyseus's success. I could go on and on about details like this.
And the fact how you potrayed Hermes (his personality and design)! He was playful, but had also his serious moments when needed. I also love the active and supportive role you gave him in Odysseus's journey back to home.

I love animatics like this that explore the paternal caring side of Hermes as grandfather of Odysseus. Ody has been through a lot and clearly needs a break, but every time he's doing so bad, the messenger god is there to cheer him up and take care of him. This truly warmed my heart. 💗💗💗
I love the take that Hermes was at least a little sympathetic to Ody and was there looking over him and helping him in the ways he could... Like giving him a pendent of prrotection, making a better ship for him, the pulling the blanket over him and watching over him while he sleeps, when he hugs him it's tight he's holding him by the head like a dad giving a child a big hug making them feel safe. It shows a side of Hermes a lot of people forget due to his trickster nature
First time seeing an animatic that shows Hermes is actually worried about his descendant, and it's absolutely freaking amazing!!
All the comments are doing an excellent job bringing up all the other best moments but I want to point out how devastatingly cool Hermes at 1:06 (+1:09 & 1:10). There are more standout moments later in the song but I adore that you can see even while he's still in silly mode how sincere he is.

What I like most about what you did is that you captured the relationship that one would expect from Hermes and Odysseus, Hermes is not only the god of travelers but at the same time he is Odysseus' great grandfather, the fact that he protects him, cares so much for him and even cares so much that he gets home since he knows what he went through is an incredible detail, mainly because at least in versions of the myth when Hermes helps Odysseus the first time with Circe he does it without any other god asking him to, he does it because he genuinely wants Odysseus to get off the island (That is precisely why in the myth when Odysseus is climbing Hermes insists so much that he must secure the sword and eat Moly for his safety even when Odysseus denies it because it is poisonous) seeing that dynamic in an animatic between the two is a breath of fresh air
I love this animatic so much, how you can feel Hermes's genuine care for odysseus, is kin. Hes had to watch his great grandson go through all this, unable to help unless one of the *other* gods sends him help. The scene where he gives him a cover after Ody passes out ugh ❤❤❤❤

Imma say it- this song was always hard to animate, i have seen all other amazing creators sort of... finding it hard to advance the story with such a static song (meaning there is no action, its a dialogue). I LOVED how with a few changes, you elevated that. Athenas token given back to him is a big deal. Hermes destroying his make shift raft was awesome- whatever Odysseus prepared was NOT enough. He needs to treat this seriously. The hug at the bag? YES they are sort of related actually, while he cant change his fate, Hermes actually care about Ody making it home. It also hits amazing with the lyric/revelation that he would never have been able to pass the storm without aeolus- the hug kind of echoes back to act 3.
