So AR’s max was 4/$101,909,150. That’s because of the Arenas Rule. He could only get that from an offer sheet. To offer that, the team offering it has to have the AAV of the total salary available (so if it’s $100M, they need $25M) while LAL can match any sheet, they’re limited to offering him the Early Bird Rights max. In this case that’d be based on the average salary etc.
Here’s what the breakdown is on a max offer sheet:
    Year 1: NTMLE ($12,403,000)
    Year 2: NTMLE * 1.05 ($13,023,150)
    Year 3: The rookie max as if he was 3y in. So 25% of the current cap (.25 * $136M * 1.1 = $37.4M)
    Year 4: A 4.5% raise on the Y3 amount ($37.4M * 1.045 = $39,083,00)
Which comes out to 4/$101,909,150. LAL (allegedly) had been leaking for a while that they’d match any offer, and people obviously believed them. While you have less time to consider an offer sheet in the new CBA, everything still happens soooo fast, that tying your money up for even 24-48 hours can be very detrimental unless you’re quite sure you’re going to get the guy. I’m a bit surprised SAS didn’t just send an offer sheet out of spite, but it didn’t happen. If an offer sheet was sent we’d know.
As soon as they could (I’m sure well before tbh) LAL offered AR the max they could give him, with all the bells and whistles. 15% Trade kicker, player option, the thing where he gets like 25% of his salary each year in July then 25% by Oct 1 or whatever it is, all of that. AR obviously waited a bit to see if someone would come in with a random offer sheet, but after a while I’m sure he realized there wasn’t rly the cap out there to do it, and if there was, those teams didn’t have any plans on an offer. So he took the LAL deal.
The official amount he signed for is a 3+1 for 4/$53,827,872. Y1 is $12,015,150. Y4 is a PO for $14,898,786. He also received a 15% trade kicker, a PO as I mentioned before it was signed, they’d give him the up front $, and they did. 25% July, 25% by Oct 1st.
There you go JJ. I’m sure you know a lot of this, but the CBA was literally distributed to teams pretty much last minute (they had term sheet obv, but the full document) and we didn’t know the exact max early bird rights offer yet. Also the cap did go up from 134 to 136 very shortly before FA so that boosted the amount of course.
    Love your work. ✌️

I mean I’d say Jaxson Hayes is better than a 500yo TT and an injured Bamba. Reddish is a cheap (minimum) flier. They also added a 1st round pick in the teens w JHS, & Max Lewis who was a 2nd rounder that was mocked to go mostly in the bottom of the 1st.
Losing Lonnie is unfortunate, but with the additions should more than make up for it, the added continuity, and just one more year of improvement from the young guys. Could see a guy like Max Christie end up seeing some playing time as a contributor, never know.
Oh also almost forgot about Taurean Prince for cheap. He’s not a great defender, but he’s not awful, is like 6”8, and a good catch and shoot 3P shooter. Just a nice F depth piece. There’s also at least one more signing to be made. It’ll be the minimum or close to it, but you never know who can help.
I’m not a LAL fan, just sayin’. Also I think bringing all of the core pieces back plus a cpl upgrades will help. Not saying they got crazy better, but def better, and another year as teammates should help a lot.

Great analysis from JJ. Austin & Schooder were both $ in tight situations late in games. My one concern about Austin Reeves is on defense; it seemed like the Grizzlies and the Nuggets were trying to single Austin out. I can remember a number of plays where Aaron Gordon or Bane got the ball down low on him and scored pretty easily. Against the Warriors, Davis didn’t have to focus as much on Greene and Looney and could dissuade Klay, Wiggins, or Poole from seeking out a similar matchup near the rim. Thoughts?

They kept key young players under the age of 28 who played alot last year who are at least 24 years old and has 4 or more years of experience who aided the Lakers in making the playoffs and making it to the conference finals. Why is this important. Rui, Vando and Dlo got to the Lakers after the All star break! Reaves was already there! This team with them and the free agent they signed will have whole offseason and preseason to get more chemistry. They made to the WCF and one step away from playing for a title. All the guys they resigned or sign are under the age of 30 and if the Lakers have success, win a title and they improve individually for that team success, they will get bigger contracts in the next few years!
