The Doors are arguably the quintessential American Band, setting the groundwork for all that followed. Happy to see new content presenting Doors music to younger generations! But this video lacks in all the essential categories. What the song's dark and foreboding poetic lyrics paint, a vast landscape of emotions... Alienation, loneliness, confusion, fear, longing... The point being, this concept looks like a film school student listened to the song, took some of it's more obvious imagery, and splashed it heavily with some gratuitous, way too slick graphics, to "bring it up to date for the kids". As just one obvious example, take a good look at the original album's inner record sleeve artwork, the female figure on the telephone pole, nailed Christ-like, sacrificed. It's controversial harsh graphic, stark for it's time, even now. Here in this "safe" new music video, it's reproduced like a "glammed up" photo shoot for a fashion magazine cover... Couldn't be more opposite of what The Doors' music, and Jim Morrison's poetry, was meant to convey. I really was looking forward to watching this video, wanted to like and enjoy it. But it left me with a bad taste in my mouth, and indigestion... Like going to Olvera Street here in LA to enjoy a spicy full flavored authentic Mexican-American style dinner, but being served a Taco Bell "Value Menu" beef burrito instead. The music is, and will always remain, timeless. The images it continues to conjure in my head remain to haunt me. The song isn't self-consciously trying to be edgy... it IS edgy. The original song, "Riders On The Storm", stands as one of the best tracks ever recorded by The Doors (and co-produced by Bruce Botnick), or ANY band since. I watched this music video, I wont bother to watch it again or share it on social media. This video is cringe at best. Instead of complementing, it distracts from The Doors music...
