I built a chieftain for exploration, named it Inconceivable, and haven't touched it since, but in fairness I haven't really done much exploring since then. I don't think it's a great ship for the long range stuff I want to do but it's probably more than adequate for some medium range sight seeing treks. If only those class 4 slots weren't military only, it would still be slightly range compromised but it would be way more usable as a medium duty explorer, but instead I have a Krait for that just because of the more versatile internal space.
@@tankasaurus-rex I personally prefer the Phantom. It's what I went to the Galactic Center with and it's a nice place to spend in VR, plus it's very fast. But I mentioned my chieftain since you showed one here, and I built it probably 3 years ago now. More maneuverable than the Phantom for bored canyon running 20k Ly out, but the extra QoL of the Phantom is too much especially when you're on your own for weeks.
@@tankasaurus-rex If you're still in Horizons 3.8 then it probably makes even more sense than the DBX since you can still do some proper canyon racing (mine boosts to 591 m/s). It's a bit more expensive than the other options but the ability to have dual AFMUs means that your powerplant becomes the limiting factor rather than your FSD damage. Another one to consider is the Krait Mk II as a heavy explorer, which I used to visit the 45g world, but the biggest advantage of that is the ability to launch a fighter for more deep space sui--er.. fun runs, and the downside being a lot less jump range as a result. The concern with deep space trips now is possibly missing out on CGs in the Bubble, but if you're in 3.8 none of that matters so...
Wow, next level space exploration
Remarkable video!
Thanks for sharing this with us! :D

Beautiful video, with a great music track in one of my favorite places. Well done.
Appreciate my dude, any chance to show how beautiful this game is and how awesome space is!

Yeah I wouldn't recommend the chieftain for exploration, my preference is the Diamondback Explorer
