Thanks, Heather! Yes, Maya Angelou is a gem. Caged Bird will be a re-read for me and a book we taught. I haven’t read The Hate U Give yet, but it’s frequently banned, so I’d like to find out what that’s all about.
For decades I've been telling people, you've got to read Percival Everett, he's the real deal. So great to see him becoming more well known in recent years.
Love the quote about banned books Pat. So enjoying this discussion around all the banned books. Hoping you are enjoying Easter and look forward to all your episodes of course 😀😊
I have the Kindle version of Les Miserables too. 11 banned books is impressive. I’m only at 5. Don’t forget the Les Miserables is considered a banned book. You should find out April 1 is you’re a judge for the BookTube Prize.
Some more great recommendations and I enjoy your thoughts on what you’ve read and plan to read. “Fascists ban books”…how true this is - as well as the perceptive comment that book banning is a performative action…intended of course to whip like-minded individuals into a frenzy of consternation, regardless or not of whether they have read them. I haven’t read Maya Angelou’s memoir so that will go on my list as well as the Handmaid’s Tale graphic novel. So many books, so little time! Thank you Pat as always.
Pile of possibilities does sound more relaxed than TBR. I can’t bring myself to read Les Miserables just yet so on the shelf it sits. I really liked I Am, I Am, I Am. I do think you will, too. Purple looks great on you. Happy Easter. 😊
I hadn’t heard of James, that sounds interesting! Would also like to read the Maya Angelou book. Les Mis though, that would be too big of a commitment for me! 😅 I’m impressed with your ambition, even though it’s just a PoP. Lovely video Pat, you are such a natural in front of the camera.
Thank you, Ellen, for this lovely comment. My priorities for April will be reading Les Mis (actually, the read-along for that is six weeks and goes into the middle of May), Everett's long awaited James, and I Am, I Am, I Am for People April. The banned books project is ongoing over the rest of the year, so that should be manageable. This is my first read of Les Mis. Just have to pace myself...
I agree with a PoP list. Also I've also been using a Could Do list rather than To Do. Les Mis in one month alone is ambitious. I hope you enjoy your reading such powerful scenes. The boys in the rat infested statue...
Great pile of possibilities Pat. I also prefer that term to TBR 😊. I have the same Les Mis translation but your cover is so much nicer than mine. I’m really looking forward to that readathon. Happy Easter and have fun with those fabulous books 😊
Hi Aaron! Everywhere I turn, I’m reading about this new novel by Everett. I think it’s going to prove to be a really important book. I’m also so excited about our discussion of Les Miserables!😊
Like many people I want to read _Huckleberry Finn_ before _James,_ even though Brian at Bookish assures that it isn’t necessary. That’s a truly magnificent quote by Percival Everett that you read.
I used to teach Huck Finn, so I know it well and don't feel that I need to re-read it right now before diving into JAMES, but I can see why you would want to re-familiarize yourself with it. Brian is right, though, that it isn't necessary.
Hi Pat. Nice pile. Ive also got a brand new copy of James and one of those penguin Les Mis that Id loke to read. But foolhardy soul that i am ive created my own doomed reading event because i couldn't resist a portmanteau.
Thanks, James. I want to read The House of Seven Gables with all of you, but I don't think I can do it with reading Les Miserables....We'll see...Hope you're doing well. Have a lovely day!
Great selection of books to choose from. I CANNOT WAIT to start reading "James" this month. It's on the top of my list. "Handmaid's Tale" is one of my favorite books and is extremely relevant right now (which is pretty frightening.) Here's to a great month reading! 😎📚👍
I’m so excited to get into James too! I’m just now reading Dwight Garner’s updated review of it in The NY Times. I’m also waiting to receive The Handmaid’s Tale graphic novel, which is also being banned. Yes, really frightening how relevant it is! Hope you’re doing well! 😊
I just found your channel and am really happy I did. You seem to have a very intentional way of choosing and planning your selections which is much more helpful than so many of the podcasts that seem to just discuss the most popular books. I had never thought of connecting my choices to the months. I am going to look into those challenges as well. Esp the banned book one. I’m looking forward to hearing your discussions and growing my pile of possibilities.
Thank you so much for watching and for leaving me this lovely comment. There are many reading challenges and events on BookTube. I probably over-extended myself in March, but I'm trying to do things in a more deliberate and focused way this month. Thanks for commenting. I hope you enjoy my future videos as well.
Whew! That is indeed a pile of possibilities! I decided to sit out Round 2 of the Book tube Prize, however I will likely volunteer for the remaining rounds ...we'll see. "Fascists ban books ...." Good quote! Happy Easter!
I've always maintained a "consideration list." I've been considering reading some of those books for years and years! Your banned books lineup has so many treasures in it! Sandra Cisneros will be at the book festival I'm going to this month.I loved that Everett interview. Great video!
I love how you think-a consideration list! How wonderful that Sandra Cisneros will be at the book festival! Why on earth is that book being challenged? I need to do some research. Have a lovely day!
That's a long list of books when you have Les Mis at the top! Listening to the words from Percival Everett, I think a great idea for a book would just be a compilation of invective against these blinkered, embittered, trigger-happy micro-brains.
I laugh at myself: this was supposed to be my calmer, toned down month! But the banned books are not all for April. That’s a long term project. And I like your idea for a new book! Another project! Maybe we can start in May?
Yes, a less intense, demanding phrase! The book banning business is very disturbing, and yes, it seems like it comes from another time altogether. But it’s happening now, and it’s enraging. Thanks for commenting.
Hi Marilyn! Yes, using Kindle certainly makes sense! I’m sorry you’re dealing with both carpal tunnel and arthritis. This experience with Les Mis is the first time I’ve encountered a book that is simply too big to hold! Hope you’re doing well. It’s been raining here for days now…Would love to see a bit of sun! Stay well, my friend!
Hi Ros. I had bought O’Faolain’s first memoir years ago but didn’t read it until this Irish readathon, and I just adore her. Sadly, she died in her mid sixties in 2008, I think. I’m dipping in and out of her journalism now.
Hello Pat, Happy Easter. Lovely video. I like that you said "rough plans" - that is how I approach things too. I always have a loose plan of what I may read, no pressure. I cannot believe it's April tomorrow! I usually carry books over but I love the reset of the new month and the new challenges it brings, as well. Have a lovely day.
Happy Easter to you too! Yes, I'm really trying to tone it down this month and not put so much pressure on myself. The thumbnail picture on this video wouldn't give you that impression, though! Really, the banned book list is an ongoing one, so not just for April. Big priorities this month will be Les Miserables, James, and the Maggie O'Farrell memoir for People April. The rest, I will read as I can, carrying over into May, June. etc. I can't believe we're at April already either! This was a relatively quick winter, I thought. I hope that you're doing well and that you have a lovely holiday!
@@BookChatWithPat8668 Thank you. The clocks have gone forward in the UK, so lighter nights here we come! It's still cold but I feel we have turned a corner...I have my yearly projects too, that helps. I really enjoy the monthly challenges. Keep up the good work!
That is an amazing list, love that you are giving yourself options to choose from. I didn't realise The Handmaids Tale had a graphic novel! Have a Great Easter
Omgosh. What a brilliant quote from Percival Everett re banned books. I love it. And he's 100% correct.
Yes, he’s absolutely right!
I love the diversity in your pile Pat! I’ve enjoyed The Hate You Give and I know Why the Caged Bird Sings. Maya Angelou wrote wonderful poetry, too.
Yes! Yes! Yes! I completely agree!
Love the quote about banned books Pat. So enjoying this discussion around all the banned books. Hoping you are enjoying Easter and look forward to all your episodes of course 😀😊
Thank you,Zena! Just got home from Easter dinner with my extended family. Lovely day! Hope you’re doing well!😊
@@BookChatWithPat8668it’s a lovely time for family gatherings. We too have had a night down with my daughter’s family 🥰. We are so lucky 😊
I have the Kindle version of Les Miserables too.
11 banned books is impressive. I’m only at 5. Don’t forget the Les Miserables is considered a banned book.
You should find out April 1 is you’re a judge for the BookTube Prize.
Thanks, Greg! Yes, I think I received Robert’s email after I made the video. You know, I wasn’t thinking of Les Mis as a banned book. Thank you!!

Aww Floss, thank you! I love purple! I even used to grade papers in purple! I’m excited about both I Am, I Am, I Am and Les Mis. 😊
I’m adding OFaolain to my list. Thank you for sharing.
Oh I hope you enjoy her. I think she’s just wonderful!
Pile of Possibilities! 📚 That is t-shirt worthy. 😂 Love it
That's a great idea. I certainly didn't make it up, but I like it a lot.
I love the quote you read by Everett about banning books. You have a great pile of possibilities. I'm looking forward to reading Les Mis in April too.
Thanks, Arianne. Les Mis, James, and I Am, I Am, I Am are my top priorities for the month. I'm really looking forward to our discussion too.

A “could do” list! I love that! The Les Mis readalong actually goes into mid-May, but still, it seems very ambitious. I’ll do what I can do! 😊
Great pile of possibilities Pat. I also prefer that term to TBR 😊. I have the same Les Mis translation but your cover is so much nicer than mine. I’m really looking forward to that readathon. Happy Easter and have fun with those fabulous books 😊
Hi Debs! Happy Easter! I’m looking forward to this read-along too. This deluxe edition IS beautiful! If only I could lift it! 😅
That's a great pile, Pat! James has really piqued my curiosity - I haven't read anything by Everett yet.

I look forward to your review of James. I've read 4 Everett books but I wanted to reread Huck Finn before starting James.
That makes sense. I’ll post my review after my book group meets. Thanks for watching and commenting! 😊
