  • Unveiled in December 1982, 9 months after Tommy Steel visited Liverpool and made the offer to produce the sculpture as a tribute to the Beatles.

    Tommy Steele was Regarded as Britain's first teen idol and rock 'n' roll star, a Rival to Elvis. Half a Six pence was Written to showcase Steeles Talents. He holds the Guinness world record for the longest running 1 man show. He was taught how to tap dance by Gene Kelly and had his own comic strip in which he had a magic guitar. In the 1979 New Year Honours, he was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for his work as an entertainer and actor. He was knighted in the 2020 Birthday Honours for services to entertainment and charity.
