I read the interviewer's line "I'll confess I haven't read all of it, it's a little on the longish side..." (the hardcover is all of 67 pages long!) as a little tip-o'-the-hat to the idea of bullshit right there.

That's ivy league tongue-in-cheek right there. Lol!

People are more tolerant about bull-shit than lying before they became more egoistic.
Let me explain: Lying is usualy used to manipulate or trick us personaly and therefore we feel threatened if and when lied to. Bull-shitting threatens us less because it is performed in a way that nobody is directly attacked, it just gradually erodes truth - so we don't feel we lost anything - even if we did.
If we were less focused on our limited personal gain we would value truth more and resent bullshit.

    • @veronicatellez2458

As a person who sees the value in truth, I feel bullshit is threatening and offensive 🤷🏽‍♀️ I literally do not understand why anyone would think not. It is an attempt to deceive just the same while also as Frankfurt says no respect or value for the truth.

This is so relevant, and so close to the truth, it is relevant to any discussion on any topic you can think of.

He was obviously making a joke. He holds the book up when he says it, and the author chuckles.

The concept of "bullshit" should not be so obscure, as it is essentially the heart of that modern industry known as 'marketing,' and therefore the heart of contemporary capitalism. "Bullshitting" is the practice of achieving a certain behavioral outcome through 'linguistic' means! Consumption has replaced the concept of civil society, therefore marketing has replaced dialogue, or civil discourse. In such a society, the 'truth,' or concrete realities, become irrelevant.

Classic! "What is the nature of bullshit?" asked in a straitlaced academic manner. Love it. Darn important subject though.

He says 'the motivation of a bullshitter, is not to say things that are true or even that are false"...this is true! The motivation of a bullshitter is to just say something that will benefit him/her regardless of its veracity. It's a completely self-serving mechanism. Sometimes it's just for the bullshitter to hear their own jaws flapping! Quite similar to a lot of university/college professors! LOL :-)

I kinda think that if you apply the university professors saying, "publish or perish" to this book you end up with a sort of fuck you to the general status quo of putting out bullshit books just to make your department look good.
    I really liked the book.

The difference between objective truth and objective false is very important for the religiously dogmatic, so no: as much as you may have seen a group in your cross-hairs to shoot at, I don’t believe that group would fall under this topic.

Thanks for blocking me from your video after taking a couple of days to form your response. I'm asian by the way, and household income is well over $200k, so I am in no way trying to put down Asians with my comments. I am however pointing out that the stat can mislead those who lack knowledge of stats. My comments' purpose was to point that out, and you have deleted them. Way to keep an open forum. All you are doing is trying to force your viewpoints. Afraid much?
