    "Hyundai/현대", if written in Hanja is "現代", which pronounced as "xian dai" in Mandarin Chinese. Also "Toyota" in Kanji is "豊田", which pronounced as "feng tian" in Mandarin Chinese. So the Chinese names for brand that using either Chinese origin name or name written in kanji/hanja, will always be the Chinese pronounciation of the kanji/hanja.
    As for "Volkswagen", the Chinese name is a literal translation, "大众" is shortened name, full name is "大众汽车", in German "volks" means "folks/people", "wagen" means "car/automobile", so "大众汽车" means "people's car".
    Others were mostly transliteration with Chinese words, however during the process they didn't choose some random word with similar sound, but words must have meaning to fit with the brand's characteristic.

    The differences to the US are actually not that surprising as many of these brands are pronounced 'wrong' in the US as well. When it comes to BMW for example, the Indonesian version is almost spot on.Also the Indonesian version of Volkswagen and Porsche is quite similar to the German pronounciation.

      Right? Though we don’t pronounce the “We” part as “Ve” like in German. 😁 Many people assume that the Indonesian alphabet is the same as Dutch, but there are a few key differences in pronunciation. For instance, the letter W in Dutch is pronounced like “ve,” similar to German, whereas in Indonesian, it’s closer to an English W. Other examples include C, J, G, and others, which also sound quite different in Indonesian compared to Dutch.

    I’d pronounce some of these brands a bit differently from how Stefanie pronounced them, but that’s pretty normal since these are foreign brands, and different Indonesians might pronounce them differently. For instance, I’d usually just say “mercy” (pronounced /ˈmɜrsi/) for Mercedes-Benz, but if I were to say the full name, it would sound more like /mɛrsedes ˈbɛns/. As for Lamborghini, I’d go with /lamborɡini/ or just /lambo/ if I’m feeling lazy.
    That said, I really admire how the Chinese translate foreign brand names. It’s fascinating that they don’t just transliterate but also try to give meaningful translations to the Chinese versions. It adds a creative and cultural touch.

      @YinYayaSo you're talking about Malaysia not Indonesia bro. Indonesia is not just the Malay ethnic group, we have many different ethnic groups with diverse physical appearances across the islands. I myself am from the Banjar ethnic group, which has features similar to East Asians, as well as the Dayak, Bugis, and various other ethnic groups throughout the archipelago, all of which are still part of the Asian continent. However, our appearance is quite different from my relatives in other islands like in Papua, whose features sometimes resemble those of African people due to their Melanesian heritage. The same goes for the differences between you and the Malay, Javanese, and other ethnic groups. So, we don't see this as a difference, but we are proud of our country, our nationality, and our unity in the midst of diversity 😄❤️🙏

    With no alphabet, Chinese has to rely on finding characters that sound similar to that brand and also gives it a meaning in itself other than the name. With the exception of some Japanese car brands that use Kanji, Chinese just proununce it as it would be in Chinese. You have to think of Chinese as a language that relies on already made words to create new words for foreign sounding things.

    I think as an Indonesian, i pronounce Mercedes Benz, as "mersedes benz" (Indonesian phonetic/sound, replace the 'Ce' with 'eS'), but we also like to shortening a long word, so we usually said "Mercy"
    BMW is Be eM We
    Lamborghini, was usually shorten to just "Lambo"
    And Volkswagen,, bro, trust me, nobody like to said a word that long here. We just said VW instead, Ve We, simple and short

    Oh and here's the Indonesian ABC

    I think men would be better suit for this considering those brands are more into masculine thing while women works best for fashion brand like bags, footwear and so on.

      Not necessarily. Knowing how to pronounce stuff is not limited by genders

    • @synestia4005
      @synestia4005 4 часа назад

      I think that's bullshit. Women drive cars too and it's not like they choose car brands that aren't world famous.

      @@Vinance790 Genders do matter if you want better knowledge, especially in automotive where male dominated the field.
      I can give example for the Indonesian part, most of people here would pronounce Volkswagen as VW "Ve" like Very and "We" like West. Mercy or Mercedes instead of Mercedes Benz. Hands on experience simply give you more immersive knowledge.

    • @Vinance790
      @Vinance790 3 часа назад

      @@fendy_ Then the gender doesn't matter. It's more of people who are specialized in the field. Many men I know also don't know shxt about cars or automotive

      @@synestia4005 Ah yes, then men wouldn't wear footwear or bags. That's bullshit..
