Mets manager Carlos Mendoza reveals Francisco Alvarez surgery, talks another Mets win over LA | SNY

  • Francisco Alvarez will be sidelined indefinitely according to Mets manager Carlos Mendoza because the torn ligament in his thumb will require surgery. Mendoza is confident that Alvarez will return this season. As for the 6-4 win over the Dodgers on Saturday, Mendoza explained his decision to bring in Edwin Diaz to face the heart of the the Dodgers lineup in the eighth inning. He also complimented Reed Garrett for shutting down LA in the ninth inning. The Mets manager felt it was a great team win from "top to bottom."

    I find Mendoza to be extremely articulate, calm , knowledgeable, and demonstrates that he is totally in tune with today's game.
    Though it's early, i think the Mets found a good one

      Wrong, with surgery he will def be out until August if not September homey especially having to catch and reswing a bat

      A torn Thumb Ligament.... That's at least 2 or more Months to recover to play Pro BB as a Catcher . Unless he thinks that he is Aaron Rodgers!!

    Not sure if its the same ligament but i had a similar injury from skiing and falling on my hand with a pole in my hand, and it basically feels like your thumb is torn off.

    I don’t wanna get ahead of myself (cuz he might being mickey calloway) but Mendoza I don’t know something bout him, his presence...he's got a little joe torre in him and maybe cuz he looks like joe torre a lil bit who knows but something about him seems like he could be the right guy sterns clearly saw something in him cuz that hire came out of nowhere

    This is why giving a young Player an Early Long term Contract isn't Smart because "What-If" this Injury causes Alvarez to change his swing in a Bad way.

      @@leonardosaleh3304 Fact Check: Jose Altuve Broke His Right Thumb and Frankie Alvarez Tore His Left Thumb Ligament. In my opinion, Ligament, Tendon or any Soft Tissue Injuries could have longer term negative effects than Broken Bones unless it’s a Vertebrate.

    Mendozer leaving Pitcher Houser in, in the 5th against the Dodgers to get clobbered was a him throwing a game away. Whether by incompetence or design his inability to see his pitcher losing his stuff is a big reason this team will have poor performances.

    I love Metspeak - He has a minor thumb spraying Translate - He's having his thumb amputated as we speak. We don't have an issue because our backup catcher is a first ballot HOF'er. Translate - We are screwed our backup catcher is our back up bullpen catcher. Strve Cohen has never been less concerned how we'll be effective with his replacement. Without doubt he can carry our success forward. Translate - I'm the backup catcher, how the hell are you guys so worried
