Thanks for the info. I am British and for about 7 years I have been using QQ to keep in touch with Chinese friends- it has some good features like Q Zone but everyone asks me if I have a WeChat account- I am now buying my first Smartphone in order to download it (On a laptop it seems to be very slow and take up a lot of space) as I am going back to China in a fortnight. I am not very technically-savvy so I hope it is easy to use.

Pretty much all the things she mentioned is regularly used, ordering food is not so regular, but I do use in Macca's and KFC, cos don't want to get in line standing, so basically chatting and all the payment stuff are the basic function of Wechat, like shopping, eating, paying daily bills, and buying tickets, even my parents are using them a lot.
It's true. Because Wechat is very convenient and changed our lifestyle.

Hong Kong was a safe city in Asia that attracted a lot of tourists in the past. In consideration of the ongoing protests, I do not recommend travelling to Hong Kong at present. Instead, travellers may go to mainland China.

In the US, to receive funds, your Wechat app must be "backed" by a Chinese bank account/bankcard. If you have funds in your WeChat Wallet, you can transfer funds to others, whose apps must be eligible to receive funds.
Man the closest thing to we chat here in the US, is Facebook messenger. But I hate Facebook and barely use it. I wish we had another company come in to do this.

This is a disgusting APP! I have a Chinese friend studying in Europe, she told me she was speaking on the Chinese WeChat app about human rights in China, some silly point that there are no human rights in China because the government is blocking them from flying back due to Coronavirus or some silly point like that. The police turned up at her parents home in China threatening them and said that her daughter has to stop speaking like that. So WeChat is sending data of its users in Europe to the police in China which then they use to threaten their families in China. China makes me SICK!

I've had WeChat for like a month and already I have had my account blocked three times for no reason. It is nearly impossible to unblock it without having a person in your contacts do it for you.
Hope u understand that WeChat is taking care of some of the banking functions and it has HIGHHHHHH level of security.
Wechat has high level of security . If you'll add someone be careful (limit it) just based on my experienced . If you don't know the person whose gonna talk to you and add you be careful again- they might report your acc. if they find you boring based from my experienced 😧. Stop changing password frequently or even log out your account. If someone unfriend you then just click add friend ( JUST ONCE) because if you do it twice your account will be block and the reason is harassment. Same situation like you 😧

Honestly its so true that never judge a book by its cover, I had always talked bad about the spiritual healers because I lived a very good life with a nice business and had a nice family with my husband and our two kids. I always thought that they were scammers and crooks and I never believed that anyone can solve someone's problems . I could rudely reply to the posts about the healers with insults little did I know that one day they will help me. It started when a strange disease attacked one of my kids for several months. The eldest child could get an attack and he faints with lots of saliva from his mouth and mucus fluids from his nose. I visited most of the big hospitals in Uganda but the doctors couldn't see the disease. I went to pastors, certain healers, prophets and priests but couldn't see any change. I sold all of my properties and lost my businesses since I didn't have time for them as wanted to save my son's life. We lost everything. My husband started losing interest in me, disrespected me, insulted me in front of our kids, all my in-laws hate me. He always said that I had a curse of bad luck that I brought to the family. I was left with no hope. The worst point of it is when my husband started cheating on me with a rich well-known business woman which I won't mention her name. I got depressed and wanted to kill myself. One of my closest friend noticed my situation and I explained to her what was going on in my life. She just gave me a phone number and told me that just a single call will be a solution to all my problems. My friend called Papa and made an appointment to go to his office and on that date, my friend picked me very early in the morning and took me there. I explained everything to her. He asked us to go back and bring the sick kid and we did so. He cast her spells and after a few hours, my son was healed and never had the attacks again up to date. After three days my husband came back home and apologized to me. He gave me a ring for my business and as I speak now am not complaining. I got back everything. Call or whatsapp her on +2779433371. All very true but you forgot a few. Wechat can turn on your camera and microphone without your knowledge, search your pictures for known faces/locations, of course records all your messages and best of all it's acceptable by the government or anyone with the cash. I use a dummy phone for Wechat only, the camera is blocked, gps is disabled along with the mic. Just some things to keep in mind, especially if you're feeling lonely and try that shake trick

Steve odonoghue Sir anyone for the most part can use WeChat. All you need to do is either download it using the store that your mobile device uses to get apps or for PC search WeChat in your browser. Chinese app is the complete app with all the features it has where the other language version are limited to calls and text.
