Upward Lightning, Powerful CG, and Anvil Crawlers in Slow Motion

- Energetic storms in Dallas Texas provided an outstanding light show including close by upward lightning, powerful cloud to ground lightning, and photogenic anvil crawlers. First video includes at least one ground to cloud lightning bolt with some potential secondary ground to cloud bolts on the horizon. Video captured via Iphone 13 Pro Max at 240 fps. Playback at various speeds including slow motion.
That crawler was insane!! Left so much plasma...
I love the lighting on the right of the screen at 0:33 , the bolts jumping around, flashing up and down. It looks like it's moving almost instantaneously over what has to be hundreds, or thousands of feet!
that rolling shutter is a bitch, it makes lightning video so difficult
Whatever initiated that upward didn't seem like a very tall structure. I always wonder "how tall is tall enough" when it comes to upwards.
Using google maps and triangulating my position with visible landmarks in the video I believe the upward bolt originated from a tall metal powerline pole or highway light pole (~100 ft tall) 2.4 miles away. There is a ridge between my location and the estimated origin point that conceals the structures.
@@cumuloarch3239 That's impressive if it's only 100ft. One of my main questions with lightning has been "how tall is tall enough", as in what is the minimum structure height to initiate upward lightning. For stationary objects, the lowest I've seen is about 500ft and for rotating around 300ft. There are many communication towers between 100 and 200ft in height, so it'd be interesting to see if, when, and how they may initiate upward lightning.

Its proper name is stepped leader , not upwards lightning.
You must be confused. The upward lighting is on the left and shown in three different playback speeds. The slowest playback speed which shows that it is clearly ground to cloud lightning starts at 0:24 and ends at 0:40. You can see the main plasma channel extend from the ground to the cloud and branch out.
