It was a cheap parts bin experiment which turned out great, a SWB M3 with a turbocharged engine, essentially. For those interested, you can make a car that drives just like a 1M quite easily out of a 135i, the hardest part is the body, really.
I did everything aside from the body work & engine. I only have a 128i so i have a different subframe but I put every single M component i could on it. Also went M factory 3.73 LSD along with Bilstein B14 kit, but used Eibach springs. 530i 3 stage intake manifold, MILVS (Modified Intake Lift Valvetronic Supports) along with some supersprint headers & Apex Arc-8 Forged Magnesium wheels and 335i stock Brembo's. Awesome little car, got 120k miles going strong! No n54 issues haha

That 1M was the return of the E30 M3 the perfect M the value will always rise wish i could buy one and love the new M2 is the 2 gen 1M we want more of this BMW and stop making automatic gearboxes on those models i hate it !! Needs to be manual 6 speed only

Powerslides, skids and drifts. Lovely stuff. Seeing a nicely executed drift in slow motion even better. More time to enjoy it visually. Sadly, the presenter is not good at it. Slow motion combined with bad driving IMHO is not a good combination. Its just more time to notice the lack of skills. This looked a bit like a bad parody of a Chris Harris review. Sorry about the harsh comment, but people should not try and show off skills they don`t have. Keep practicing though.. Cheers

Reason, I track a lot, and felt I would end up modding the 1M to much, destroying a future classic. 2r is a much easier car to live with day to day, but I would take the 1m any day on track, slower however your working it, and you feel like your going twice as fast. In the 2r I look down and I am carrying amazing speed,but you feel numb to it. TSracer1, where are your videos on track driving?
Exclusivity has much to do with the 1M's value. There were only 680 in the United States. There are already over 700 M2's in the US as of today and is expected to reach close to 4k US units when the run ends in 2020.

You basically have the choice between performance and fun. Personally I don't really care about 0.2 seconds more to 100kph but I do care about the driving experience, manual it is.
+Walther White DCT is fun and offers better performance. It's not about the 0.2 seconds on paper. In real world scenarios those times are multiplied greatly. From red lights to windy country roads to interstate passing to show off BS like launch control. Total dual-clutch convert. Hate normal autos. I prefer a Jeep with a manual (have a 1991 Sahara) or older car but for modern stuff it's so hard to beat.
I've got a Valencia Orange 1M. It is definitely not an easy car to drive hard. It bites if you are not careful. M2 is great, but I like the quirkiness of the 1M. It's a bit off and that's what makes it special.
I got myself a 1M March this year.. Part exed a Posche Boxster Spyder also a beautiful limited edition motor.. In the same show room was a 2015 M3 or was it an M4 cant recall actually less miles and cheaper... But i was drawn to that little iM,, Just stood out in that room surrounded by many more expensive exotica... it held its own and shouted out to me "Come and get me" .... was Irresistable.. That look is something unique.. Later cars dont have it.... I am pleased with it and having had an E46 M3 E36 M3 Z3 M coupe I am qualified to have a valid opinion here... I must say Looks wise I think BMWs have lost the plot slightly Not are they alone in this.. And as for that dreadful electric thing Do me a favour Please Yukkk

BMW is smart in this segment in having no competition in the U.S. SLK--not really since the the Kompressor models, Golf--close enough but is there any other COMPETITIVE choices available in U.S?!?
I wish BMW would make a 2017 version of the original 1978 M1 but I (and BMW) know that perfect things cannot be remade. If such a thing was possible, BMW would make the best car in automotive history...again.

Nice review but you really should have compared apples to apples by having a manual transmission in both cars to really see how they compare.
In the N54, both turbo's are the exact same size actually.
But you should drive a modified N54!
