Agree. here in the US GCN+ was great value. pretty much every race for $50 a year (especially with a VPN to work around the geoblocks). i haven't signed up for Max yet. The intent was to put the cycling behind another subscription paywall within max - but they haven't done that yet; but don't want to sign up then have another paywall put in place.
It used to cost me $50 Canadian dollars per year. Now to get mostly the same amount of race coverage (but less!) I have to pay Flo Bikes over $200 CAD. GCN+ was the absolute best value streaming service I ever used.
Is the goal to support the end users or to support the brands? Frankly, I value your integrity in your cheaper bike reviews…. There are already plenty of GCN’s or others suckling on the industry teet.
I don't understand why anyone would buy a smartbike that's completely dependent on one company's software. As soon as the company goes bust you have an extremely expensive paperweight in your house. Please buy one that works on everything folks.

so much sweat was entering my frame through the seat tube bottle cage mounts (screws had been removed)m that ate through the aluminum bottom bracket insert and weakened the frame which resulted in the frame cracking. When i removed the crank to investigate i discovered a pile of salt and a hole in the bb. Much to my surprise cannondale replaced the frame for free!
i think putting 10k bikes in front of people also increases their value for the layman so that the people who buy them can show them off to an audience who knows the value

How long does it really require to review a bike? I could do a pretty long-term review in a day or less by one long ride over selected terrain. When I bought my gravel bike, I tried a couple bikes from the shop and it was pretty obvious within 10 minutes which bike was more suitable - mostly the one that wasn’t a 1 By.
sorry, too much free time today, multiple riders in a household means adjusting the bike every time, also a bike that you ride will need to be on and off all the time. The handlebars? How important are they when you are not using for their main purposes of steering and you don't need to be reaching brakes mostly? The crankarm length can be an issue for smaller riders but even that probably is not that big of a deal indoors. talking as member of a household with a 5' 11'' and a 5' 3'' rider with one setup that is too big for the smaller rider. The way the chain works is also useful and apparently Zwift have put a coating on the cassette to take into account sweat and apparently does not need lubing for a very long time... but that are claims and untestable until people get them.
kidding? I swapped form a 40cm handlebar to a 38cm and it's changed my world. Not to mention crank arm length. Anyone that takes their cycling seriously enough to buy this should be concerned about the lack of quick adjustability for a multi-use family. Not to mention it would literally be 10x quicker to put my bike on a trainer than adjust all the points I need to with a tool. The fact they didn't put QR and adjustable levers for all the adjust points tells you how badly thought out this entire bike and concept is. Sweat destroys everything lol. special coating that will last a week if you sweat on it. Most people dial in their bike setups to millimetres...and you're suggesting one crank arm length will be fine? I mean if you want to buy it buy it...but don't justify really shit design. Especially for what people are paying for this...and to be locked into zwift...when what I imagine will be a system similar to mobile phone plans where there are multiple types of software platforms and people will just take their 'level' accounts and port them to other systems and change between based on how they feel and price and what their friends are using. Each to their own though.

How much would it bother me indoors? i currently ride a 42 inside because i have no choice. putting a bike on / off maybe ok even without taking into account the fact that you do cause damage to a bike you ride outdoors but having to commit two bikes and keep them in the house ready to be swapped about when one of us needs to ride indoors it is an issue. I am again not sure how important crank length is indoors absolutely important outdoors again i had to swap my stock 170 to 165. I am not excusing bad design choices i am just saying that there is a portion of indoors riders that find that useful and can be a viable solution to a wahoo kickr at twice the price.

I guess my issue with the RIDE bike is knowing it's going to be used indoors and all people sweat on an indoor trainer, the fact they didn't put a chain guard above it seems like piss poor design to me. Why wouldn't they? It's not like the bike is cheap. I ride indoors and outdoors and width affects my reach and neck issues. Again...how hard would it have been to have created an adjustable bar for what you're paying for? Anything relevant outside is relevant inside. A good fit is a good fit regardless. I understand different situations for different people. I just think a lot of this bike is badly designed not to mention locking you into having to use zwift so you can't swap and can't use it on another platform..maybe irrelevant. If it was really well designed and thought out I might agree with buying it...but there is so many things I haven't even mentinoed that make no sense about a bike created specifically for zwifting.
@@out_spocken do you really think that 600£ is too much then? Even if the chain is not sweat proof as they say at least i do not ruin casettes and chainrings. Also you can use it with ERG mode platforms (Trainerroad which is what i use) but yes it is there to promote and facilitate new zwifters.
@@vrapan For what is being offered, yes I think the price doesn't reflect the design and offer. A bike that you can quickly (not with a tool) adjust all points required, has a chain protector, has inputs for charing devices, allows you to use the product on other platforms (though I imagine other programs might start coding for this perhaps?) And even then, you have different saddles for different people. I have the same saddle on every bike I own for a reason. I get you can't have an adjustable saddle on these things...but this is the beauty of having a cheap 100 pound bike that is set perfectly to your own fit in every way, vs jumping on a trainer. Even just saddle tilt is noticeable. I actually thought it was a bit more than that so it's not crazy...but it's still, for me, an average designed, expensive frame that still requires you to spend money making it fit correctly. Like I said..far from me to say what people value and can buy, but I think it could have been built much better for what the end goal is for what it costs.

Look I love you guys and bicycles in general, however, when cyclist say things like cars shouldn't be in cities and everyone should be riding bikes, I always come back to the fact that humans (not just cyclists) always want the world to bend to what makes their life better without considering others. I mean do you want to carry a 50lb ream of paper to the office on your handlebars? Do you want a mom to bring 3 kids under 6 into the city on bicycles with strollers and diaper bags? As cyclists we want people to consider what we need to be safe and happy but we rarely seem to reciprocate that. There are so few people actually trying to fight for a world that works well for everyone and not just their own needs.

Ok Francis, Emily, and Jimmi - I’ll take one for the team. Next time someone wants you to fly to the Dolomites to review a $10k bike, I’ll go in your place and suffer through the presentations. As a rider and mediocre amateur MTB/cyclocross racer who has had to give tech presentations at conferences for years in my industry ( software ) I’m tangentially qualified ( if you squint ) to deal with the PR wonks. Sitting at booths for days and glad-handing every poor attendee who’s just there for the free booth giveaways gave me the stamina to endure 3-hour pressers. Alternatively, the next time you fly through Atlanta, grab a layover and we can just catch a nice gravel or MTB ride in the blue ridge mountains - the beers are on me. Cheers! The GCN+ subscription worked out at less than half the price as a Discovery+ subscription over a year- so it was much better value. The Thumbnail with "GCN closing" is a bit childish, and clickbaity, no?
Actually, GCNs web site closing is a huge blow to the brand. I expect a major reduction in staff or less "gee-whiz" fluff and more meat like Dan's recent journey.
A big part of being a coach is not pushing people, but actually reassuring them that rest and recovery is okay. Many riders who reach out for coaching are already competitive and driven. They don't need pushing, they need guidance regarding structure and how to train more effectively. A big part of what I do is fatigue management, stress management and life balance. Most coaches spend more time pulling on the reins than cracking a whip. If a rider has a tendency to get caught up details and go down rabbit holes, then a good coach should keep it simple and incorporate things they enjoy that will allow them to maintain their love of riding. A bunch ride with your mates may not be the most effective training, but if that makes you happy and the keeps rest of your training on track, then it's important to incorporate it into your plan. If you enjoy it, you'll be consistent. If your consistent, you'll improve.
You can get accountability by having a fellow rider who watches what you do on a daily/weekly basis. They can be the one who says "Isn't today your no bike rest day?" If you are at the end of your knowledge and aren't improving, then get a coach, be it virtual or in real life. But set expectations. Be realistic as well.
38:00 GCN+ was way cheaper than a comprehensive streaming service, at least in the US; I paid $25 for the year. So buying Max (or Discovery+ in the UK) is a terrible deal by comparison. Why should I pay 5 times as much for junk I'll never watch? For cycling fans, GCN+ was a much better deal.
In all fairness. HBO is not considered junk from an theatrical point of view. It’s not MTV with teen mom and their other dating semi pornographic junk. But I do understand that people don’t wanna pay for stuff they don’t enjoy. That doesn’t mean what they offer is bad value. It just means we want less for less.
Yeah, I've only watched the cycling on Discovery+, (one of my daughters who lives in the UK got me a subscription), and the rest of their content has no interest for me. I'll have to subscribe to Flobikes for the TDF.
99% of your audience don't buy $10k bikes, but 99% of your audience also doesn't buy $1k bikes, either. The top spec bike gets the hype, because below that, it's all about how much of a bike *like* that can we afford in our price range? As for the SRAM point, new tech isn't introduced on a second tier groupset. All the newsworthy advancements roll out on the marquee groupset and then trickles down. Of course there's no big event for "here's this year's second tier groupset featuring last year's top-tier advancements".
You guys interested in having a look at the new Specialized Chisel FS? That's probably the most exciting new bike for me in a long time, but I know you guys are more road focused.
For me it’s the 2024 Merida Silex. Mohoric won the World championship on the most premium version. But they have exceptional Alu versions of it for very reasonable prices. It’s an extremely versatile bike that looks the part as well. Thick tire clearance, easy but clean cable routing. Mounting points galore. Nice geometry. Just 1 gripe, the old one had a thicker drop bar. Which I preferred over the new slimmer one.
Personally I would really enjoy reviews based off of you guys eBay buying 2nd hand stuff. Ranging from 1-5k for example. Of course it is difficult to do and is such a wide range of bikes available. But you could do it based on what you guys specifically would buy, what you look for, and a review on how to find the right things. I know it is a minefield, and what suits me won't suit the next person. But seeing how you guys would browse the market and identify possible bargains....for me would be really interesting
It's a shame that I love that GCN website quite well. Reading is a lot faster when you just want to get that same amount of information. What takes 10 minutes on a video would usually just be 2 on an article. It's like a transcript but better organized, and it's almost 1-1 to their video counterpart. Video has it's limitation but monetialization is just better -- you can't show a "how to ride a bike" video without an actual bike and all the kits -- all of this allow for much greater brand exposure, especially if you measure that exposure and impression by time. Just yesterday I was wondering why their website directly redirects to their YT channel, when I was searching for some aero testing stuff. Thought it could be just a technical glitch. Information in the video is a lot harder to search and consumes a lot time to find what you need. It's just a shame that we have to stand that loss.
All Bike industry is: 20% Taiwan/ Chinese factory - 80% Marketing buzzwords and BS. With a sprinkle of gullible buyin from cyclist swallowing it.👍....you know im right
As someone from within the industry. I know your numbers are way off. But yes most parts are made in Taiwan/Southeast Asia. Frames mostly by Giant and lesser extend Merida. (Which both do an really good job) Shimano parts are usually made in Japan.
the zwift bike is exciting to me as an easy way to share an account with my wife who is different sized than i, we currently need 2 different bikes and install them for whoever is riding onto the kickr...$1200 for all the gear is very price competitive for everything you get.
It’s basically a medium sized bike with adjustable seat and handlebar height. You could do this with a normal bike, quick release seat clamp and an adjustable stem.
Most of the audience don't want reviews of 1k bikes they are boring. Hyper Bikes are cool and if I can't afford it I still want to see how cool it is. Also Mid to high end bike reviews is the largest market (middle class). I wouldn't listen to noisy minorities that like cheap bikes on RUclips.

They put you up, wine an dine you, and then fully expect you to give a good review or buy lots of their stuff. It is up to you. You pay for the trip with your time watching the propaganda. Big deal. Otherwise, buy the bike, do a review, sell the bike. Then you can't complain - except you would, because then you would lose money on the resale. Suck it up if you want to eventually get a free bike to test for a while.
IMO i think you should take all the press trips you are offered. The video on the Dogma was great also it would be cool to VLOG the trips. E.g. Seeing Jimmy react to a stuffy 8 course meal would be great content! 😂
The transfering of levels seems so dumb. If i have played skyrim and maxxed out my character and then go to fallout I don't want my levels transfered because levelling up is the fun.
Even if I have no intentions of buying top end stuff the reviews of it are really valuable as it points to where the industry is going overall and what can be expected in low to mid end in a few years. This is also why the brands spend so much more on the top end events. It matches the proportion of their R&D spend probably. Designing a new gen Sram Red is vastly more complex and expensive than downgrading the same tech to Force or Rival.
They have never seen someone take it apart?! For god’s sake. The main gripe people have with these clean bikes is how hard the small things can be. And honestly pinarello did some real clever engineering at the headtube. I’d be really proud to show that off.
I find the Zwift Ride makes a lot of sense. I am in a family of 4, but I am the only one in the family that actually rides outdoors. Whereas the other 3 are not inclined to do that, and there's no way we'd keep 3 more bikes at home that won't be used, regardless of how cheap it is. So having a 'cheap' alternative that lives on the turbo and can be adjusted is great to get them exercising. I think if you consider this product from a non-avid cyclist stand point, then it works.

All brands do it. It's literally marketing 1.01. Create a (positive) emotional response. it's why so many people buy so much stuff they don't need. We don't need most of the stuff we buy...and the stuff we do need we don't need the best of or brand names. It's all about desire.

Watch a cycling stream is like watching grass grow. In my own flawed opinion, cycling isn't really a spectator's sport: "Oh look that guy pedalled! Woah he did it again!" Two hours of that.
Y'all are cycling rock stars, so enjoy the backstage treats and airport shuttles and scenic rides! And I grin but honestly, just the show and tell about all of this is enjoyable, not sure anything really rides on it, no pun intended, and Emily nailed it with the window shopping comparison.
I do not understand. Are you expecting all the manufactures of these high-end bikes and their components to hold same level of launch events for their multiple lower-level versions? If I cannot afford these top-of-the-line bikes or components, I will wait until their cheaper versions, which do perform 90% of their more expensive counter parts. Try the beta of indieVelo as they develop it by listening to their customers unlike Zwift. The most fun program I've used was VirtuPro, specifically the team racing as their physics engine in the 154 bot peloton beats anything I've ever used. The physics engine, alone makes Zwift a total looser. I'm not much for racing (too old) or the other Zwift features and have completely moved to FulGaz simply for the realism and 4K quality.
I found the software buggy bloatware and unusable, Zwift and Rouvy are in a different league. Find them all too expensive for the amount of time I spend on them, would like a lite user option or pay per ride plan.
In the low/midrange market of bikes, the wheelset is an important part of the equation. Oh that bike has ultegra and the other one has 105. for sure the ultegra for the same price is better. But what if there is a solid dt swiss wheelset with a good freehub mounted on the 105 bike? On the other hand, especially on the cheaper bikes, a short segment when you test them with a 'good' wheelset would also be great. e.g. As a beginner you will be fine with that wheelset, and after an year you can upgrade your wheelset for 500€ and get an really great bike. On the other hand I would appreciate if you put some decent tires on them for the test.
@@cooltwittertag My point was that I would rather have a bike with 105 and a solid set of wheels (eg alu dt swiss) instead of ultegra with reallly cheap wheels. And for sure Iam talking non DI2. You used to get a aluminium Radon R1 Disc Ultegra for ~1800€ and the 105 for ~1500€ What is low/midrange for you?

The wine confiscation thing is a shocker to me. I didn't realize UK airports had adopted US security arrangements for transferring from an international to a domestic flight. That was always such a convenient thing for going anywhere into Europe, staying on the airside of security even when you cleared customs. I'm a bit confused though; did he transfer from Gatwick to Heathrow, which is what it sounds like Jimmi was saying, or is it what Francis was saying which would be American-style having to re-clear security after customs even if he'd been flying into Heathrow from Venice in the first place?

Heathrow has the worse security who are known to take expensive womens make up and alcohol. They tried to nick my wifes make up becasue one item was not in their pethedic plastic bag. I told them to take my toiletries and I will take the my wifes make up and they just said take it all and move forward.
Really disappointing. You guys were invited to a really nice place to enjoy some food and drink and fellow journalist and ride a sweet bike at a launch event and all you did was complain. I’ve run launch events, took journalist on international flights to Girona, brought them all in and all I expected after was an honest review. Yes, a couple hours marketing presentation but no pressure on anyone. Instead, you guys whinged all morning about how you couldn’t take the bikes apart, at most launch events there’s probably only 20 or 30 bikes in the country! You’ll get a bike in a month. You can put your tires on, that’s how everybody else does it, is it your first rodeo? You came off like you were too cool for school, like the posh place could not impinge on your integrity but the fact of the matter is these events happen all the time, enjoy it like most everyone else did, you don’t have to give a positive review. Ben Delaney goes to every one of these events, you can’t BUY his review. Writing an accurate review is where your integrity comes in not complaining about flights and having bad meals (I’ve been vegan 30 years, sometimes you have to deal). A launch event is a sneak peek, an early preview for special journos, there’s probably only 20 or 30 bikes in country at that moment so I wouldn’t have let you take apart a bike with your tools nor should any other bike company (the next group from another region is probably coming in the day after you leave, they can’t have you mucking something up), you’ll get a bike in a month you’ll be able to put your wheels on it. these are very intricate events to run, you are not the only ones there, and believe me the event person cares if you are having a pleasant stay becasue the care about YOU. You should’ve been allowed to weigh it. But all you guys do is complain like you’ve got greater integrity than everybody else. Integrity is in the review, not complaining about the food and the lodging and things like that. Don’t go (oh thats right you didn’t want to go in the first place because of some lame reason). It really does feel like it’s your first time. David Arthur gets a bike in a month and he gives it a longer term review put his wheels on it and changes components. Aside from that, the fact that the bikes all looked, the same is because of the UCI rules or more specifically the industry is coming to a singularity within the confines of the rules. All the bikes are going to look the same because everyone has the same wind tunnels, and aerodynamic science. So you probably spent the biggest part of the weekly video complaining about everything yet the fact of the matter is it could’ve been a nice time. I’m sure other people had a nice time. I would never invite you to an event because of the negativity. And you gave a mostly positive review, in spite of yourselves. Christ, enjoy a nice place, give the review and quit complaining. No CMO ever says let’s do a press event in Bolton, its always somewhere nice. And they literally sit down with a list of people, and weed out the people that are no fun, this is a fun industry. fluff up: you were not in Italy, you were in Northern Italy, which is mostly German (Austrian) and where you were, is Ladinish. They speak a micro-language that is indeed very closely related to Latin, and is not mutually intelligible to Italian speakers. There are only three valleys that speak it, two of them being in Switzerland. The cuisine there is also native, and not at all Italian. So - trying to get pasta and pizza there would have been a mistake. Also, re: pescatarianism or vegetarian - its possible, but in those valleys, they were never able to farm effectively, so most of the food is gathered (chestnuts & mushrooms) or is animal origin. In the old days, they would have all starved without goats and cows, who are able to turn grass into meat. Grass is all that grows in abundance there besides trees. (Cheese was a way to store the milk, which was only available in summer.)

Agree. here in the US GCN+ was great value. pretty much every race for $50 a year (especially with a VPN to work around the geoblocks). i haven't signed up for Max yet. The intent was to put the cycling behind another subscription paywall within max - but they haven't done that yet; but don't want to sign up then have another paywall put in place.
It used to cost me $50 Canadian dollars per year. Now to get mostly the same amount of race coverage (but less!) I have to pay Flo Bikes over $200 CAD. GCN+ was the absolute best value streaming service I ever used.
Is the goal to support the end users or to support the brands? Frankly, I value your integrity in your cheaper bike reviews…. There are already plenty of GCN’s or others suckling on the industry teet.

so much sweat was entering my frame through the seat tube bottle cage mounts (screws had been removed)m that ate through the aluminum bottom bracket insert and weakened the frame which resulted in the frame cracking. When i removed the crank to investigate i discovered a pile of salt and a hole in the bb. Much to my surprise cannondale replaced the frame for free!
i think putting 10k bikes in front of people also increases their value for the layman so that the people who buy them can show them off to an audience who knows the value

The only perk I can think of with the zwift bike over a cheap part dedicated to the turbo, is the adjustability.

How long does it really require to review a bike? I could do a pretty long-term review in a day or less by one long ride over selected terrain. When I bought my gravel bike, I tried a couple bikes from the shop and it was pretty obvious within 10 minutes which bike was more suitable - mostly the one that wasn’t a 1 By.

sorry, too much free time today, multiple riders in a household means adjusting the bike every time, also a bike that you ride will need to be on and off all the time. The handlebars? How important are they when you are not using for their main purposes of steering and you don't need to be reaching brakes mostly? The crankarm length can be an issue for smaller riders but even that probably is not that big of a deal indoors. talking as member of a household with a 5' 11'' and a 5' 3'' rider with one setup that is too big for the smaller rider. The way the chain works is also useful and apparently Zwift have put a coating on the cassette to take into account sweat and apparently does not need lubing for a very long time... but that are claims and untestable until people get them.
kidding? I swapped form a 40cm handlebar to a 38cm and it's changed my world. Not to mention crank arm length. Anyone that takes their cycling seriously enough to buy this should be concerned about the lack of quick adjustability for a multi-use family. Not to mention it would literally be 10x quicker to put my bike on a trainer than adjust all the points I need to with a tool. The fact they didn't put QR and adjustable levers for all the adjust points tells you how badly thought out this entire bike and concept is.

I mean if you want to buy it buy it...but don't justify really shit design. Especially for what people are paying for this...and to be locked into zwift...when what I imagine will be a system similar to mobile phone plans where there are multiple types of software platforms and people will just take their 'level' accounts and port them to other systems and change between based on how they feel and price and what their friends are using.

How much would it bother me indoors? i currently ride a 42 inside because i have no choice. putting a bike on / off maybe ok even without taking into account the fact that you do cause damage to a bike you ride outdoors but having to commit two bikes and keep them in the house ready to be swapped about when one of us needs to ride indoors it is an issue. I am again not sure how important crank length is indoors absolutely important outdoors again i had to swap my stock 170 to 165. I am not excusing bad design choices i am just saying that there is a portion of indoors riders that find that useful and can be a viable solution to a wahoo kickr at twice the price.

I guess my issue with the RIDE bike is knowing it's going to be used indoors and all people sweat on an indoor trainer, the fact they didn't put a chain guard above it seems like piss poor design to me. Why wouldn't they? It's not like the bike is cheap.
I ride indoors and outdoors and width affects my reach and neck issues. Again...how hard would it have been to have created an adjustable bar for what you're paying for?
Anything relevant outside is relevant inside. A good fit is a good fit regardless.
I understand different situations for different people. I just think a lot of this bike is badly designed not to mention locking you into having to use zwift so you can't swap and can't use it on another platform..maybe irrelevant.
If it was really well designed and thought out I might agree with buying it...but there is so many things I haven't even mentinoed that make no sense about a bike created specifically for zwifting.

@@vrapan For what is being offered, yes I think the price doesn't reflect the design and offer. A bike that you can quickly (not with a tool) adjust all points required, has a chain protector, has inputs for charing devices, allows you to use the product on other platforms (though I imagine other programs might start coding for this perhaps?) And even then, you have different saddles for different people. I have the same saddle on every bike I own for a reason. I get you can't have an adjustable saddle on these things...but this is the beauty of having a cheap 100 pound bike that is set perfectly to your own fit in every way, vs jumping on a trainer. Even just saddle tilt is noticeable.
I actually thought it was a bit more than that so it's not crazy...but it's still, for me, an average designed, expensive frame that still requires you to spend money making it fit correctly.
Like I said..far from me to say what people value and can buy, but I think it could have been built much better for what the end goal is for what it costs.

Look I love you guys and bicycles in general, however, when cyclist say things like cars shouldn't be in cities and everyone should be riding bikes, I always come back to the fact that humans (not just cyclists) always want the world to bend to what makes their life better without considering others. I mean do you want to carry a 50lb ream of paper to the office on your handlebars? Do you want a mom to bring 3 kids under 6 into the city on bicycles with strollers and diaper bags? As cyclists we want people to consider what we need to be safe and happy but we rarely seem to reciprocate that. There are so few people actually trying to fight for a world that works well for everyone and not just their own needs.

Ok Francis, Emily, and Jimmi - I’ll take one for the team. Next time someone wants you to fly to the Dolomites to review a $10k bike, I’ll go in your place and suffer through the presentations. As a rider and mediocre amateur MTB/cyclocross racer who has had to give tech presentations at conferences for years in my industry ( software ) I’m tangentially qualified ( if you squint ) to deal with the PR wonks. Sitting at booths for days and glad-handing every poor attendee who’s just there for the free booth giveaways gave me the stamina to endure 3-hour pressers.
Alternatively, the next time you fly through Atlanta, grab a layover and we can just catch a nice gravel or MTB ride in the blue ridge mountains - the beers are on me. Cheers!

The GCN+ subscription worked out at less than half the price as a Discovery+ subscription over a year- so it was much better value. The Thumbnail with "GCN closing" is a bit childish, and clickbaity, no?
Actually, GCNs web site closing is a huge blow to the brand. I expect a major reduction in staff or less "gee-whiz" fluff and more meat like Dan's recent journey.
A big part of being a coach is not pushing people, but actually reassuring them that rest and recovery is okay. Many riders who reach out for coaching are already competitive and driven. They don't need pushing, they need guidance regarding structure and how to train more effectively. A big part of what I do is fatigue management, stress management and life balance. Most coaches spend more time pulling on the reins than cracking a whip. If a rider has a tendency to get caught up details and go down rabbit holes, then a good coach should keep it simple and incorporate things they enjoy that will allow them to maintain their love of riding. A bunch ride with your mates may not be the most effective training, but if that makes you happy and the keeps rest of your training on track, then it's important to incorporate it into your plan. If you enjoy it, you'll be consistent. If your consistent, you'll improve.
I needed reining in after racing a 5 day UCI race and then bike packing home with 47 hours of riding over 2 weeks wanting to race the week after
You can get accountability by having a fellow rider who watches what you do on a daily/weekly basis. They can be the one who says "Isn't today your no bike rest day?" If you are at the end of your knowledge and aren't improving, then get a coach, be it virtual or in real life. But set expectations. Be realistic as well.
38:00 GCN+ was way cheaper than a comprehensive streaming service, at least in the US; I paid $25 for the year. So buying Max (or Discovery+ in the UK) is a terrible deal by comparison. Why should I pay 5 times as much for junk I'll never watch? For cycling fans, GCN+ was a much better deal.
Same in the UK, was about half the price of Discovery+. They are way off the mark on that.
And Discovery+/Eurosport already included all the cycling content (in the higher price)

99% of your audience don't buy $10k bikes, but 99% of your audience also doesn't buy $1k bikes, either. The top spec bike gets the hype, because below that, it's all about how much of a bike *like* that can we afford in our price range? As for the SRAM point, new tech isn't introduced on a second tier groupset. All the newsworthy advancements roll out on the marquee groupset and then trickles down. Of course there's no big event for "here's this year's second tier groupset featuring last year's top-tier advancements".

Mohoric won the World championship on the most premium version.
But they have exceptional Alu versions of it for very reasonable prices.
It’s an extremely versatile bike that looks the part as well. Thick tire clearance, easy but clean cable routing. Mounting points galore. Nice geometry.
Just 1 gripe, the old one had a thicker drop bar. Which I preferred over the new slimmer one.
Personally I would really enjoy reviews based off of you guys eBay buying 2nd hand stuff. Ranging from 1-5k for example.
Of course it is difficult to do and is such a wide range of bikes available. But you could do it based on what you guys specifically would buy, what you look for, and a review on how to find the right things.
I know it is a minefield, and what suits me won't suit the next person. But seeing how you guys would browse the market and identify possible bargains....for me would be really interesting
It's a shame that I love that GCN website quite well. Reading is a lot faster when you just want to get that same amount of information. What takes 10 minutes on a video would usually just be 2 on an article. It's like a transcript but better organized, and it's almost 1-1 to their video counterpart. Video has it's limitation but monetialization is just better -- you can't show a "how to ride a bike" video without an actual bike and all the kits -- all of this allow for much greater brand exposure, especially if you measure that exposure and impression by time. Just yesterday I was wondering why their website directly redirects to their YT channel, when I was searching for some aero testing stuff. Thought it could be just a technical glitch. Information in the video is a lot harder to search and consumes a lot time to find what you need. It's just a shame that we have to stand that loss.

the zwift bike is exciting to me as an easy way to share an account with my wife who is different sized than i, we currently need 2 different bikes and install them for whoever is riding onto the kickr...$1200 for all the gear is very price competitive for everything you get.
It’s basically a medium sized bike with adjustable seat and handlebar height. You could do this with a normal bike, quick release seat clamp and an adjustable stem.

Even if I have no intentions of buying top end stuff the reviews of it are really valuable as it points to where the industry is going overall and what can be expected in low to mid end in a few years. This is also why the brands spend so much more on the top end events. It matches the proportion of their R&D spend probably. Designing a new gen Sram Red is vastly more complex and expensive than downgrading the same tech to Force or Rival.

I find the Zwift Ride makes a lot of sense. I am in a family of 4, but I am the only one in the family that actually rides outdoors. Whereas the other 3 are not inclined to do that, and there's no way we'd keep 3 more bikes at home that won't be used, regardless of how cheap it is.
So having a 'cheap' alternative that lives on the turbo and can be adjusted is great to get them exercising. I think if you consider this product from a non-avid cyclist stand point, then it works.

Watch a cycling stream is like watching grass grow. In my own flawed opinion, cycling isn't really a spectator's sport: "Oh look that guy pedalled! Woah he did it again!" Two hours of that.
Y'all are cycling rock stars, so enjoy the backstage treats and airport shuttles and scenic rides! And I grin but honestly, just the show and tell about all of this is enjoyable, not sure anything really rides on it, no pun intended, and Emily nailed it with the window shopping comparison.
I do not understand. Are you expecting all the manufactures of these high-end bikes and their components to hold same level of launch events for their multiple lower-level versions? If I cannot afford these top-of-the-line bikes or components, I will wait until their cheaper versions, which do perform 90% of their more expensive counter parts. Try the beta of indieVelo as they develop it by listening to their customers unlike Zwift. The most fun program I've used was VirtuPro, specifically the team racing as their physics engine in the 154 bot peloton beats anything I've ever used. The physics engine, alone makes Zwift a total looser.
I'm not much for racing (too old) or the other Zwift features and have completely moved to FulGaz simply for the realism and 4K quality.
I found the software buggy bloatware and unusable, Zwift and Rouvy are in a different league. Find them all too expensive for the amount of time I spend on them, would like a lite user option or pay per ride plan.
In the low/midrange market of bikes, the wheelset is an important part of the equation.
Oh that bike has ultegra and the other one has 105. for sure the ultegra for the same price is better. But what if there is a solid dt swiss wheelset with a good freehub mounted on the 105 bike?
On the other hand, especially on the cheaper bikes, a short segment when you test them with a 'good' wheelset would also be great.
e.g. As a beginner you will be fine with that wheelset, and after an year you can upgrade your wheelset for 500€ and get an really great bike.
On the other hand I would appreciate if you put some decent tires on them for the test.

Really disappointing. You guys were invited to a really nice place to enjoy some food and drink and fellow journalist and ride a sweet bike at a launch event and all you did was complain. I’ve run launch events, took journalist on international flights to Girona, brought them all in and all I expected after was an honest review. Yes, a couple hours marketing presentation but no pressure on anyone. Instead, you guys whinged all morning about how you couldn’t take the bikes apart, at most launch events there’s probably only 20 or 30 bikes in the country! You’ll get a bike in a month. You can put your tires on, that’s how everybody else does it, is it your first rodeo? You came off like you were too cool for school, like the posh place could not impinge on your integrity but the fact of the matter is these events happen all the time, enjoy it like most everyone else did, you don’t have to give a positive review. Ben Delaney goes to every one of these events, you can’t BUY his review. Writing an accurate review is where your integrity comes in not complaining about flights and having bad meals (I’ve been vegan 30 years, sometimes you have to deal). A launch event is a sneak peek, an early preview for special journos, there’s probably only 20 or 30 bikes in country at that moment so I wouldn’t have let you take apart a bike with your tools nor should any other bike company (the next group from another region is probably coming in the day after you leave, they can’t have you mucking something up), you’ll get a bike in a month you’ll be able to put your wheels on it. these are very intricate events to run, you are not the only ones there, and believe me the event person cares if you are having a pleasant stay becasue the care about YOU. You should’ve been allowed to weigh it. But all you guys do is complain like you’ve got greater integrity than everybody else. Integrity is in the review, not complaining about the food and the lodging and things like that. Don’t go (oh thats right you didn’t want to go in the first place because of some lame reason). It really does feel like it’s your first time. David Arthur gets a bike in a month and he gives it a longer term review put his wheels on it and changes components. Aside from that, the fact that the bikes all looked, the same is because of the UCI rules or more specifically the industry is coming to a singularity within the confines of the rules. All the bikes are going to look the same because everyone has the same wind tunnels, and aerodynamic science. So you probably spent the biggest part of the weekly video complaining about everything yet the fact of the matter is it could’ve been a nice time. I’m sure other people had a nice time. I would never invite you to an event because of the negativity. And you gave a mostly positive review, in spite of yourselves. Christ, enjoy a nice place, give the review and quit complaining. No CMO ever says let’s do a press event in Bolton, its always somewhere nice. And they literally sit down with a list of people, and weed out the people that are no fun, this is a fun industry. Oh, and you are no Top Gear

fluff up: you were not in Italy, you were in Northern Italy, which is mostly German (Austrian) and where you were, is Ladinish. They speak a micro-language that is indeed very closely related to Latin, and is not mutually intelligible to Italian speakers. There are only three valleys that speak it, two of them being in Switzerland. The cuisine there is also native, and not at all Italian. So - trying to get pasta and pizza there would have been a mistake. Also, re: pescatarianism or vegetarian - its possible, but in those valleys, they were never able to farm effectively, so most of the food is gathered (chestnuts & mushrooms) or is animal origin. In the old days, they would have all starved without goats and cows, who are able to turn grass into meat. Grass is all that grows in abundance there besides trees. (Cheese was a way to store the milk, which was only available in summer.)
If the Zwift bike had more crank length options it would be great for my household and coaching business.
Yeah, I found that a bit odd given the crank itself is basically a cheap, single speed/track crank running square taper. Seems like they could have at least given the option of preferred length at point of sale.

You paid for a subscription. It’s only valid as long as you keep paying it. Netflix don’t give you their old content because you once subscribed a few years ago.
