Fantastic content big guy very knowledgeable at your craft there’s another channel called Kt 3406e that has the same content as your channel and for a lay person as myself it’s awesome for me to watch you two gentlemen inform us non mechanics to understand the difference between these engines especially if it’s for servicing the engines buying the engines or having them rebuilt thank you for your dedication to your craft and your channel
Thanks! Yeah, I've seen his channel. He's definitely got a good following. He seems to know what he's doing. But I got to admit, I don't really watch any RUclips so I can't say I've really ever watched too much of him. But if you're telling me that I'm worth watching like he's worth watching, I'll take that as a compliment to me. He obviously knows how to produce stuff that people are interested in watching. Thanks again!
I completely understand between your regular job this other income stream takes allot of effort also The other gentleman’s channel only produces a video every once and a while I’m retired but still keep busy in bad weather so I have a bit more time to watch quality helpful informative channel keep on keepin on Big Guy!
Salute and Respect ALWAYS Brotha Greg good to see you with another great episode of content and video of a professional mechanic doing and explaining what he does best rebuilding engines. This is definitely a tutorial lesson of knowledge and wisdom of learning and teaching of skills. I like how how you take time and go into detail of and on what you're doing and will do. Your descriptions of the engines with specs in your content and videos are excellent and great. You have really put alot of time and work in and on this video as your others. The magnitude of knowledge, wisdom and skills that you have are out of this world. Thank you for the information and tutorial share it's awesome, keep it coming hard and strong brotha. Be blessed and safe....💯👍🏽💪🏽🤜🏽🙏🏽👀🐐👊🏽🐐👀🙏🏽🤛🏽💪🏽👍🏽💯
Thanks! I don't really watch RUclips much but my brother has showed me some of his videos. Adept Ape really seems like he knows what he's talking about.
👍👍 i believe previously, you mentioned the marine cam swap .. perhaps that isn't necessary, and the file can/will dictate the performance you receive... thanks again feller, for your time and videos 👍👍👊
The marine cam will add another boost of power over top of the tune. If you're wanting to stick to a factory cat tune but get even more power, this is a way to do it. Otherwise, there are custom tunes that you could do that would do the same as a cam. Just seems like performance and fuel economy results are not as assured if you go that route. I put the cam info in the description for this video.
To be honest, I've never looked into them and don't know anything about them. I've always been more interested in building engines that perform very well but last a long time. So, if you were to build an engine as I described in the video, you don't need anything special. OEM bolts will do the job no problem. I might have a big hp build or two in the future where I look into them though. If I end up deciding to use them, I'll put it in a video.
Who or how or where do you get to do the tune work done? Who is willing to work with owner operator that needs a basic CAT tune put in a CAT C15 Acert BXS. Thanks
That's a good question. I don't know. We're a two man shop and I've never focused on big builds or had access to all of Cat's info. So they may have something out there in some application that I'm not aware of. I'd be interested to hear if they did.
As someone who is just watching and learning I always hear people bragging about C18s and 1000hp and all that is there a way to build a engine like the bulletproof and reliable as what you talked about in this video or is that pretty far fetched?
So... there's three options - power, durability, and affordability. You can pick two. I don't have time to type out a long response at the moment. But in general, unless you're going for some sort of competition, you're normally better of just building a real strong C15. If that's not enough - build a C16. That's a truck engine and a durable beast.
@ I gotcha a C18 is probably a whole lot more money plus you’d prolly not really be able to use all that power and it’s harder on the driveline I’m sure.
@@Its_Melv Pretty much. It can be done. Not always done well though. My neighbor's son has one that's a real beast. But the problem with a C18 is that it has too long of a stroke. It's made to run at a constant rpm all day long. Not up and down all day long. That's where a C16 is the better compromise.
@ ah that makes sense if you had to choose a C15 or a C16 for reliability and power which one would you go for? Is there much different between the C15 and a C16 other than the stroke or bore?
@@Its_Melv If you could find a C16 at a decent price, I'd definitely go for that. Main difference is the stroke. But they're typically kind of expensive.
I've got a forty pin - 1LW I believe - I put it together. It's the one in this video. Obviously, the long block is put together but it needs finished. It's hard to go a whole lot further without knowing what truck it's going in. It has IPD pistons and liners (Not the single piece steel pistons. I tore down an engine for a customer that only had a few thousand miles on it but was all messed up. He was supposed to have the single piece pistons but we found that was a lie. So I ended up with the bottom end set.) It's got the SDP pump, o-ringed head, and marine cam. It's got a front sump oil pan. TF550 air compressor that is pretty new. It's got the big flywheel and it's been turned. New water pump.
Regarding the air compressor, it looks like the 750 is much longer than the 550. Is there a way to bolt the rear end of the compressor to the block to avoid vibration cracking the front structure?
Sorry. I wasn't clear on that I guess. That was not a 750. That was a rare double sized compressor. I'm not sure what model number. It's rare enough that it's not important for me to know much about it. I could find out more if needed but it's for truck and trailers with tons of axles and air tanks. The 750 that I was talking about is the exact same size and shape as the 550 that most engines began life with. The only thing different is how fast they will air up your truck.
They're pretty solid engines. O-ring the head, SDP fuel pump, aftercooler delete, steed speed exhaust manifold, marine cam, a good tune, if you want to go for big power, decompress the pistons
@@bigrig_smilespergallon I can still use a Marine cam with twin turbos? I was told I'm limited to power with those cause they top out at 650hp and I've been debating on doing the conversion
Please. Please. Please don't. I really don't want you to learn anything from me. If I happen to figure out how to 'focus,' I would ask you to please not watch. I'm doing what I can at no profit to me at the moment and with no training or background in this. So please, don't give me the opportunity to ever disappoint you again.
