I hope that if I ever need brain or cardiac surgery, my surgeon sounds like KT when he explains my surgery just before I go under the knife. I will feel much more confident and relaxed.
I was an OO hauling overdimensional back in the late '70s with a K100. Had a 350 Cummins (couldn't afford a truck with a Cat), and I learned to appreciate mechanics who knew what they were doing. People like you kept people like me on the road making money. It's a pleasure to watch (and listen to) you work. Stay well.
Yep has all the good stuff. Straight to the point, he shares a lot of knowledge, no gimmicks, well put together. All I need is KT and AdeptApe and I'm a happy man.
I was never super partial to any diesel manufacturer; with a gun to my head I would have said Cummins, just due to proximity, but you’ve converted me. I have caught myself hearing that unique tone on the road and thinking “yep that Pete’s rocking a Cat” 😂
I drove a 1994 peterbilt with a 3406. Went thru 3 Speedometers and it had almost 4 million miles on the current Speedometer. Had a driver overheat the truck. And to be sure everything was okay had a mechanic look thru it. Took the peanut cover off for the first time ever to find everything was fine luckily and still had the factory grease behind the cover. I absolutely agree with you when you say these were the best diesel engines made in the 14-15 liter category
Really like this channel. No BS, waffle or irrelevant stuff, just straight to the point with commentary where appropriate to provide details and explanation. The channels that show every bolt being removed or replaced accompanied by needless drivel about basic stuff that anyone watching an engine or engine related channel will already know, are just painful. This guy knows his stuff and just gets on with it. Keep it up dude, and you should do some merch, although something tells me it's not your thing!
2032 lithium batteries are very common so you could probably cut the plastic housing and replace the cell if it gets to where the whole package isn't available anymore. Enjoyed the video thanks for sharing.
Yes, or buy the 2032s that have solder tabs pre-welded onto them and use those instead. Might have to cover the thing in potting compound or conformal coating spray to get similar protection as the little plastic case.
Best engines ever made IMHO , I drove trucks for 34 years and this was the best of all the engines I drove behind . Quite , smooth and powerful ! Glad you are saving them .
Frequent maintenance of air, oil and diesel filters and oil change will keep it clean on the inside and . Not forgetting flushing the right coolant when needed to reduce cylinder sleeve cavitation.
For all practical purposes he is a surgeon. He has the same level of command, confidence, courage, and absolute knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of his "patient".

He's popular because of a few things. 1. No bullshit or fluff. 2. Complete and encyclopedic knowledge of subject matter. 3. Really does a good job capturing the action on camera.
All I can say, beside the fact that I love watching these presentations, is that its obvious this young man was raised right. Good on your pop. Keep up the fine work.
Impressive amount of skill and knowledge needed to know where he puts old parts and the ability to make that complex puzzle go together perfectly. Just wow!
Really admire the knowledge you have dude to install all the components we see in the engines and make it looks like a piece of cake, and let's not forget the sound of these inline 6 Cats, boy can't get much better than this..

I just need something that needs a 3406. thanks for another video. you're amazing young man. I hope you're killing it bud. you could video the whole ting every bolt and hose and I'm sure most of us would watch it all.
I really believe that without your knowledge and experience. I wouldn’t trust a build. And I have never seen or heard of any other builder that has your concern about the build being proper and correct. 100% on your knowledge and concern, you do it right.
Thanks so much for your vids man. Sitting here in Queensland Australia just enjoying your work. These simple and reliable engines are a thing of beauty, and can feel your joy thru the screen
KT you are brillant beyond your years... and self taught... simply amazing! Back in the early 80's I owned a Kenworth k100 single sleeper cabover with a 400 cat 3406 B. I logged a few hundred thousand miles and left trucking after only 3 years. I went through 2 strikes and sad enough, could see the writting on the wall, which was that the owner operator's would never unite and shut it down. The point of this ramble, is that after 42 years, I still long for the sound of that cat. As an industry outsider and a backyard inventor, I licensed 2 seperate oil filters patents to Fram, when they were owned by AlliedSignal. The oil filter products were the Fram Doubleguard & the TRT. Oh, by the way, I'm not smart enough to even carry your torque wrench. Lov your channel.
Batteries Direct in Australia appear to have those cells in stock. They're $35AU each, and shipping to the US probably wouldn't be cheap, but might be worth giving them a call.

I like the way you stretched the bands on the main seals with a chisel, I never thought of doing it that way.
I don’t ever work on big engines like this but I’m keeping that trick in my back pocket. Might come in handy for something else sometime.
If you have ever used the cat tool to remove the wear sleeves, it's the same, just vertical instead of horizontal
It also works well to remove the wear bands when changing a wheel seal.
I've got a crank to remove one from now and was trying to remember how I did it last time. Oh well that looks like it will do nicely.
That trick is also handy if you have a stuck inner bearing race on a shaft.
I was never super partial to any diesel manufacturer; with a gun to my head I would have said Cummins, just due to proximity, but you’ve converted me. I have caught myself hearing that unique tone on the road and thinking “yep that Pete’s rocking a Cat” 😂

It amazes me how these machines can be so dirty on the outside, yet so clean on the inside
The only thing that enters these engines is filtered air. The crank case has positive pressure on it, so it vents volume out into the atmo.
