  • After turning in bed, Arrington heard a snap and felt instant pain. MRI results revealed a large nerve root tumor in the cervical spine (schwannoma) and a broken neck. Arrington and his fiancée made the decision to go to Johns Hopkins for treatment. Spine neurosurgeon Timothy Witham and a multidisciplinary team of experts successfully completed three complex surgeries only a few months ahead of Arrington’s wedding.

    I just had two large tumors removed from my chest last week. The lead up to surgery was it's own journey. The recovery now, whew chy, let me tell you. I've already been awake for 6 days in pain, trying to find a good way to sleep longer than 3 minutes. Schwannomatosis is annoying already. I just found out September 2019. Augusta State University, and the Georgia Cancer center are the best here.

    I’m going through it now. Following a auto accident I began to feel these sharp pains along my right side rib area started from my back along my right side o the front rib area. I was told it was pinched intercostal nerves by my chiropractor because my spine and neck was so jacked up like Jenga puzzle. After many treatments my pain still has t gone away and is getting worse. Fast forward after a few MRI’s/CT scans it’s been recently discovered I have a worrisome for a intercostal Shwannoma. A nodular density between the 9th-
    10th intercostal spaces
    measuring 1.9cm x1.3cm located on T2. Another MRI scan have been ordered for my chest to locate the exact location for surgery removal. It’s been a hard two years for my wife and I and all I can do now is pray that life will return to normal as it did for you and your family. It’s a scary thing and there are risks involved with removal. Wish me the best!

      If ur tumor is benign than you have nothing to worry about. Benign doesn’t spread as it is not cancer. If ur tumor was malignant then it would be different but benign tumors have no cancer so it should not happen

    I have one too in the head of spine. Been bounced around by doctors. Very frustrating

      Really? I had an MRI, the MRI tech basically called a 3 alarm fire, the neurologist I went to see stayed at the office which was nearby so he could look at the images that day, I had previously made an appointment to go back to him in about a week after the MRI, they said, nevermind that, go there right now, I said it's almost 6pm, their office is closed for the day, they said "No, they are waiting for you now". So yeah, the neurologist said I had a tumor on the spine and he wasn't sure what it was but that it would need to come out. He had referred me to a local neurosurgeon, then they said nevermind that, these local Drs deal with bad disks and things like that. They sent me to the University of Miami, in of all places, Miami. Two days later I was in Miami talking to a Dr who is a professor at the University of Miami Medical School. I had 14 days to get a whole bunch of pre op tests, get everything done for my FMLA, and year, 14 days after first going to Miami, for an endoscopy on day 1 followed by the surgery the next day. It ended up being much more complicated that they thought...yeah. before the surgery I was in pain basically 24/7. Thankfully, despite lingering complications, the pain is much much better.

      @@yvonneschimmel453 Well thank you. I still have several complications. The pain is so much better...and had I waited and not had the surgery the schwannoma would have just gotten even bigger, causing even more pain and even more complications...yeah it sucks having the issues I have but a lot of people have it worse so all you really can do is make the best of it.

    • @yvonneschimmel453
      @yvonneschimmel453 3 года назад

      @@JamesWatheist I feel for you. It can be a lonely road. In my case they can remove it but I will end up in a wheelchair and on feeding tube. So they won’t touch mine. My tumor is attached to the jugular right in the center of the nerve system. My tumor is a combination of a schwanoma and a glomus.

    • @JamesWatheist
      @JamesWatheist 3 года назад

      @@yvonneschimmel453 Yeah that's tough. I'd say keep trying but I know it gets discouraging. My tumor was in the last mbar spine. I still have foot drop in the left foot, diminished feeling in various areas below where the tumor was, they did a laminectomy to get to the core so those bones are gone, that's not a huge deal unless I get injured back there as it would do more damage since the bones aren't there to protect the tissue. Bladder and bowel difficulties, a complication of those has caused a hiatal hernia. Also a small leak in spinal fluid, I don't think that is causing many major issues and the Dr said they could go back in and try to close it but if it's not causing any serious problems.. problably better to let it be as with any surgery the risk of going in to fix a minor issue could end up casing a new issue that may be even worse and they still might not be able to fix it 100%0without causing more issues.
      I definitely don't think there has been any regrowth if the tumor as I haven't had a return of the pain, I remember what that feels like and I'd know pretty quick.
      I just tell people now, no matter how much you hate going to the Dr, even if you are young and don't think anything serious could possibly be wrong and you will probably just feel better in a few days, the a week, maybe a month.....yeah once you start kicking that can down the road time passes by and things get worse but it's so gradual you just adapt to it without even realizing it's not normal to be in constant pain.
