I have lived in Tanzania for three years now and already had many short-term visitors. (2 - 6 months). If this is your Swahili after just a month you are the most talented in learning a language I ever have seen. Really really really well done, especially with the tribe language. We live with the wafipa at lake Tanganyika and they say wahehe eats dogs ;-) - We studied in Iringa.

Just say asante until you figure out how to incorporate 'mkuu, chief, mtu wangu, swahiba' etc in conversations. Also, why did you put the tomatoes, peppers in your bag? Those things are dusty, ask for 'kifungashio' next time. Kila la kheri.

I lived in TZ (mwanza, nyakato sokoni) as a teenager, I used to be an mzungu swahili speaker too, but alas I quit using it when I moved back to the US and forgot most of it. Your videos make me miss Tanzania, I loved the culture there.

I have some tips. Take the Bible in English and another in Kiswahili then read the verses here and compare there. But get to know the basics first from a teacher. Do the same with the Qur'an. There is a very good translation by Sheikh Abdullah Saleh Al Farsy.

But nothing I have helps with listening quite like hearing REAL people talk. :) Hopefully soon I'll find a mentor.

Why are you learning and where are you from?
@@hk254lyt8 I'm from Florida, in the United States. And I'm learning by using a handful of phone apps, a virtual textbook explaining the history, culture, and language. I also force myself to talk with Kiswahili speakers in chat rooms using apps like HelloTalk. But nothing I have helps with listening quite like hearing REAL people talk. :) Hopefully soon I'll find a mentor.
