Hi i was thinking of buying an Earnshaw watch. I’m not worried about the price. But do you think it’s a safe company to buy from? Like will it break after a year or something like that?
Their target is not the knowledgeable collector. It's the fashion show-off who has no idea about the real value of a watch. Build a few hundred watches for $20 each and If you manage to sell at least 2 or 3 for thousands you've already made a huge profit. The bigger the scam the most effective.
Their "marketing" technique is to have the watches at full price for a few days and then go on 70-80% discount. It is the same thing for so&co, august steiner, Invicta etc. Honestly, i don't know what they thought sending their watches to all RUclipsrs lately, but hey at least now we know which ones are real reviewers and which are not. Thanks Jody for keeping true to your beliefs and offering us unbiased and proper reviews!

I'm making a chronometer escapement for my watch. More specifically I'm using Thomas Earnshaw's brilliant variation of the spring detention escapement. I've just uploaded my first video of the watch build. Hopefully I can spread some light on the real "Earnshaw".
Jody, great video!! I ACTUALLY own one Earnshaw watch, gifted to me by my wife. Teh watch is not a beauty, but is fairly decent, very toned-down from the on you received. First it has one of does chinese movements, which works ok, not great because the winding system is almost non-existant, you better hand-wind it to be sure it will work all day. But the must important part is that beeing a Thomas Earnshaw, it cost no more than 48 british pounds, not a penny more ( the MSRP in their website says 285 british pounds, which would be ridiculous). I agree that their business model is "a la Invicta". Have to add, I enjoyed your video while wearing my Thomas Earnshaw Westminster!!!! Great job!!

Oh my! Such a mess, all together! If you want a clean automatic chronograph, with a good Swiss movement, check out the Farer Seagrave, or Lander. They are not cheap, but you could have both, for the price of this monstrosity.
I love the case shape from the side, really nice, quite unusual, but thats where it stops. It looks like a routine fashion watch that can be picked up for £300 on any High Street. I wouldn't pay 300 for it though, and definitely not 3000! Who would push past most of the Tudor range to get to this?
Jody, think of the ‘officer’s club’ clothing store that used to be in the st Enoch centre in Glasgow when you see RRP’s like this for such watches. 😂😂😂
Workmanship and price issues aside, it's a beautiful piece. The negative comments are coming from those with no design or art training. Invicta and that Chinese stuff tries to do what this watch actually accomplishes--very well balanced old-school looks in a beefier package. Look again-and ignore the companies hubris.
I like EarnShaw, did a video. They do have several Swiss watches also. Not bad for the price. The cheaper ones, that is. I wouldn’t buy the $4,000, but I’d buy a 300
Stick an NH36 movement in it, take the chrono away, and it's worth about $120. For the record, ETA use Sellita to make some of their movements under license
It's strange how the tachymeter says "base 1000m" implying a telemeter, but the numbers definitely correspond to a tachymeter. It looks like someone in the design department screwed up. Telemeters measure how far away a phenomena is. You start the chronograph when you see the phenomena and stop it when you hear it (think lightning and thunder). Based on the speed of sound it tells you how many meters away the phenomenon is. A tachymeter measures how many times a task can be accomplished in an hour. You start the chronograph when the task begins and stop it when the task ends, and the number tells you how many times you can do that task in an hour. Earnshaw must have confused the two...
I bought an Earnshaw about 8 years ago. 42mm, black face, Arabic numerals, with a power reserve at the 12,00. It runs a treat, and I really like it a lot. I like even more the fact that it cost me £60 off BidTV (as was). Don't be surprised when this turns up in Ideal TV Shopping channel being pimped at £300, going up to £600 when the show ends. I think you walked right into this one, Jodie. I also think that this looks horrible.
Great video. There is a small slew of brands that have similar pricetags. Needs a magnifier to see if its really worth compared to established brands , and it is not.
Off topic: This should confirm what I've suspected: well-known bloggers and reviewers receive free watches as freely admitted here. Watch reviews may be biased in the interest of obtaining complementary product. No reflection on this particular review. Just pointing out that free watches are given watches when it likely pays to give free watches. The companies keep tabs on reviewers.
I own a 1861 hesalite Omega speedmaster, that thing is way cool and a bargain can be had if you shop around. Buy that if you got anny sence, you can get some money for one of those if you do try to sell it.
Hello Jody Excellent review as always. For that kind of money I would imagine that unless you loved the style , it will struggle to sell. Have you a ever reviewed an Alpina ? I have just acquired an AL- 750 chronograph and the quality is very good and the price of these are very competitive. Keep up the good work Dave , uk
As someone who purchased an Earnshaw a couple of years ago, I would not take the list price seriously. The watch I purchased cost me $80, but listed for close to $500. Thomas Earnshaw seems to me to do the same pricing scheme as Invicta; ridiculous list price so people feel like they are getting a huge bargain when they locate the watch for a fraction of the list price. As a side note, I absolutely hate the Earnshaw buckle design.
if it was a bit thinner, the dial looks rather interesting, but unless the case is made of gold it's not worth that much. The brand doesn't have what it takes so far. Could find 4 watches on chrono24 under 200$. not a good sign.
I'll take the Chinese made Venus mov't watch since they make the cases for the Swiss anyway. Opened my tissot chrinometre (it died paid $700 and $450 to repair the powermstic 80) and right there and n black ink "tissot Hong Kong".
Let's not discuss the design. Someone will possibly like it. But the price is inadequate for a chrono with only 5atm we and sellita mvmt. Hamilton Intra-Matic Auto Chrono with better wr and some history behind the brand name costs a bit less then 2000$. They should probably try to sell their watches to sports stars as Invicta does.
That is an exquisite piece of horology right there. So much heritage and value for money. For 4k usd I think I'd buy two. What a bargain. SAID NO ONE EVER!! Earnshaw must have their heads up their asses if they think anyone is going to pay over 500 usd for that.
Double dome sapphire crystal with AR: 1000 dollars if the case and the hands are gold plated(and they probably are not because the case back is just SS). If they are real gold both of them then a fair price would be 1500 dollars. That being said the design is not for me: there is only lume on the minute and hour hands and it all looks so cheap and chintzy and the proportions are so wrong that If I saw it on ali for 150 dollars I wouldn’t be surprised. Making something limited edition doesn’t make it worth a lot of money. You either need a great design, or one of historical significance, or precious materials (or all of the above) together with a limited edition to comand such a price for a relatively obscure brand. Great review Jody!
I've been thinking of getting a nice automatic chronograph, and I have my pick of established brands for half the price of that Earnshaw. Even if you want a proper limited edition, you can get a Sinn 103 green dial, limited to 500 pieces for only $3,000.
So they give you a watch allegedly worth 6 grand and tell you they don't want it back? I think that gives you a fair idea of what it is really worth. I mean, I think it says a lot about a watch when the caseback is the most attractive feature. And I don't even like open casebacks.
Because of the Sellita movement alone, it is worth about $600. Take away a couple hundred for the ugly inscription on the case, then another couple hundred for the ill advised see through date wheel (yuck!). Lastly discount by another 200 for the overall cynical approach to making a luxury watch. That leaves $0. They should give the watch away, but don't try to give it to me. I already own a 'perlative cernometer' by Tevise!
I'll take the Earnshow, because I already have an Omega Speedmaster.
No just kiding, I'll chose another Omega.
No, just kiding, I don't have an Omega and cannot afford a first one. I'll take a Cadisen, sir.

I wouldn’t buy the $4,000, but I’d buy a 300
That's not AR coating, it's an electromagnetic nightmare.
LOL
Stick an NH36 movement in it, take the chrono away, and it's worth about $120. For the record, ETA use Sellita to make some of their movements under license
Wow. Just. Wow. I totally agree with your assessment.
Honest and accurat review. Thanks.
Honestly? I like it, I'd pay $500-700 Canadian for it. But...
...not $4000.
SRP: £ 3.250
SALE!!! £ 1.500
LIMITED TIME OFFER!!!!!! £ 250
Any price would be too much for such a gaudy watch.
Ending comment and smirk - "Priceless," lol!
I checked the link and at the moment of typing this there 1 model still available.
"Majestic Rose Gold" from £3,250 down to £499
I own a 1861 hesalite Omega speedmaster, that thing is way cool and a bargain can be had if you shop around.
Buy that if you got anny sence, you can get some money for one of those if you do try to sell it.
Hello Jody
Excellent review as always. For that kind of money I would imagine that unless you loved the style , it will struggle to sell.
Have you a ever reviewed an Alpina ? I have just acquired an AL- 750 chronograph and the quality is very good and the price of these are very competitive.
Keep up the good work
Dave , uk
Very true; Grand Seiko wouldn't gift one to a reviewer.
Especially a "limited edition" of 280 units.
Very good point
Because of the Sellita movement alone, it is worth about $600. Take away a couple hundred for the ugly inscription on the case, then another couple hundred for the ill advised see through date wheel (yuck!). Lastly discount by another 200 for the overall cynical approach to making a luxury watch.
That leaves $0. They should give the watch away, but don't try to give it to me.
I already own a 'perlative cernometer' by Tevise!
