Love this show they definitely would not get away with this these days don't get me wrong I can appreciate that comedy has changed but sometimes I do miss the unhinged stuff

Basically the anime did really poorly in Japan, so the dub cast was told they could say/do whatever the hell they wanted. The only restrictions were that the character names and the basic plot points had to be the same.
