Use a long basting stitch. If you use a shorter stitch it may tear. You can also reinforce the sewn edge with colorful duct tape or washie. Love this thanks
This is so cool!!! I want to say that my kids are going to love this, but the truth is that I will be doing a few for myself too! I am a true beginner with sewing so this is perfect. Love this! Thanks!
Hi Dana I made quite a few of these to give to my students when we did a display in school about mental health. We encouraged them to write and draw their thoughts and feelings . I enjoyed making them and my students added embellishments they liked. Great idea thank you
These are so stinkin' cute!! I will use these as non-candy holiday treats for every holiday. Instead of using blank pages, I will print coloring pages on the inside. Thanks for the idea! Love your videos!
YES! That is such a fun idea! We've done that before too....It's super fun as a Valentine's day gift, with cute heart drawings or something like that. Thanks for watching! - Dana
Hi from Barcelona! Great idea!!! We just made our first book! Dana we appreciate the love and the time you give us with your videos! Please go ahead! Gracias guapa! (Thanks cuttie!)
Welcome back! This is a great idea for inexpensive Christmas gifts for my great nieces and nephews. I have sew much card stock from over the years, I just never thought about sewing the seams and making these journals. 💕✂️🐾.
Love it!! Your an amazing teacher! I've learned so much from watching your videos! I love being subscribed because i get notifications and you get me excited to try new things! I've had a lot of success out of everything I've tried from watching your videos!! Thank you for sharing the love of sewing!
So, I went to Joann’s, tonight, to get some card stock for Christmas crafts with my grandchildren . . . 12 for $2!!! It’s like buying 2 and getting 10 free. So, I bought 4 and took 20 more free. I can’t wait to start on thanksgiving weekend.
Try using a Brayer instead of a ruler to crease the edge of the book. The ruler scrapes the paper. A Brayer is a roller with a handle that presses and smooths at the same time without damaging the project. Also there are times when I use paper to cover my project for further protection! 😃
Thank you for this idea. I didn't know you could sew through paper with your sewing machine. I've used it for some preschool- kindergarten age activities. Thanks so much!
Arlsdarls76 YES you would need to change to a new needle after sewing paper. But you should change your sewing machine needle about every 8 hours of sewing anyway. The one thing many folks don't do often enough is change needles. Needles are cheap and it insures nice clean stitching and is better for the machine because a sharp needle reduces the effort it takes for your machine to punch through fabric. I change my needle at the very least after each sewing project, or every 8 to 10 hours.
Maybe punch holes would be nice and you can get the little re-enforcement circles to protect the holes so they don't rip. You could use ribbon for girls and rawhide strings for boys to hold the little books together.
Thanks for this Dana, unfortunately we don't have a joanns in Northern Ireland but I'm sure I can find some nice card stock. This is a brilliant idea I would never have dreamt of doing this on my machine 😀
Dana i got my first sewing machine on my birthday last week and stumbled accross your video...love it ,, thank you so much. I didnt know you can sew paper on sewing machine. WHOA... Can I use my empisal sewing machine for this?
Dana, they make corner rounder punches. In the paper crafting section, it's much faster and always consistent with a punch. So, no those of us who paper craft don't think oh wow, how did she do that, bc we use rounded corners on scrapbooks more often than not, ha ha, but it's much faster using a punch. Not to mention they are all identical. If you watch for a 50% off coupon, you can get one for 5 dollars or less.
I made this and my needle tore the paper it was like the paper was too perforated, any suggestions on making it cleaner and not tear the paper? maybe I'm using the wrong needle or thread?
So cute! If you were making these for a school aged child who maybe didn't like the look of homemade things you could put some washi tape down the spine!
hi dana, it's me, makayla, i made 4 of those books for me and my friends at school, i made my front cover out of a pattern that i drew and the other three with plane, white paper. i was wondering if you could sugest something for me to sew because i really don't know what to make because there are so many different types of thing to make, so i thought you could help me out.
Awesome! Those sound cute. Maybe you should sew a skirt next. Try the simple skirt or a circle skirt....or make a pillowcase :) ruclips.net/video/oqNU0-ORkbA/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/OVXd951Q8ss/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/m3obNOWc4Kc/видео.html

You are so fun and brilliant 💡 another fantastic idea!! ❤️
love your personality🤗
Dana, you should have your own TV show😀
Youuu are SUCH an amazing teacher! It's all thanks to you I'm no longer scared of my sewing machine ;) THANK YOU!!
They would make as cute little folders too. 😍
Yes! Definitely.
One thing that could be great to use when folding, is picking up a bone folder used for book folding
I love your videos! I made my own little book for the first time. I am definitely not proficient at sewing, but I am learning :)
Oh that's so awesome! My kids still love using these little books!
I love your videos! This note book is so clever!

This might be a dumb question but does it matter what needle you use?
Thank you for this idea. I didn't know you could sew through paper with your sewing machine. I've used it for some preschool- kindergarten age activities. Thanks so much!
OMG - mind blown. I'm going to try this asap!
That's a really nice "first project" for getting your kid acquainted with a sewing machine.
I made a few of these today! Dana you have a lot of awesome ideas! Thank you for sharing !
I love that! I'm glad you had fun with it! :) - Dana
What a fun, easy, and cute idea!
You make the best videos! Love your personality.
Yay, you are back!!!!. Come back soon!!!!!
This is so great I can't wait to sew A ton cute books now I love this video 😜
oh my god this is the best channel ever, THANK YOU
You are my quarantine teacher
Hahaha :)
Love this idea! Would this blunt the needle on the machine? Wondering if i should swap mine out before i then sew fabric again. ..
Yes, that's a good idea. The paper will dull your needle over time. I love a fresh needle when I'm starting a new fabric project :) - Dana
Arlsdarls76 YES you would need to change to a new needle after sewing paper. But you should change your sewing machine needle about every 8 hours of sewing anyway. I just discovered this channel ... I am hooked!

Dana,
@madeeveryday What type of needle do you suggest...universal or jean/denim?
Very good idea. I made some books. Thank you very much. God bless you.
Love your ideas and videos!
Great ideas! I'll make some for my grandkids!
I want to do this! What is the best needle to use for paper and card stock? How thick can the books be made comfortably?
Really enjoy watching your videos.. thanks for uploading
I made 2 of these and they're super cute and super easy!
I missed u sooooo much!😘😘
Sorry! I wish I could post more frequently! Videos take a lot of time to prepare :) But thank you for watching! - Dana
MADE Everyday I can understand! Videos take a lotttt of time to film and edit! I'm having trouble myself! But I enjoy it!💖💖
MADE Everyday I'm not sure it you've done it already but could you do simple garments like kimonos or wrap dresses
I love these....and I'm thinking my grandkids will, too!
Thanks for this Dana, unfortunately we don't have a joanns in Northern Ireland but I'm sure I can find some nice card stock. This is a brilliant idea I would never have dreamt of doing this on my machine 😀
Lovaine Niblock Hobbycraft is a good source of UK paper craft supplies at reasonable prices. They do books of 12x12 papers.
Ruth Andrews - Crafting While the Baby Naps thank you so much that’s very helpful x
Dana i got my first sewing machine on my birthday last week and stumbled accross your video...love it ,, thank you so much. I didnt know you can sew paper on sewing machine. WHOA... Can I use my empisal sewing machine for this?
Love this video!! My FAV part was at 9min 23sec! Made me giggle!!
Very cute!
Hi😊 This is a fantasy channel!!! but can the sewing machine sew in more than 5 sheets without breaking the needle?
Thank you for this inspiring video!
Hi, please someone tell me what the name of the pineapple plastic paper is called. Can't find it. Thanks 😊
I just got in to sewing and love you and your tutorials and wondering if you could do more sewing 😇😘🙂
I Love this! Thank you!
So cute! I love your ideas!
Could you please provide a link for your baby lock machine? I am interested in purchasing one.
Sure, it's called LYRIC. You can see more info here: www.madeeveryday.com/2014/11/my-new-sewing-machine-and-how-to-pick-your-own.html/
MADE Everyday Thank you! Made three journals today. My kids love them!
That's the best to hear! They're such a fun, quick project. And even better when your kids love them!
I love Joann Fabrics. I find better crafting supplies there than at Michaels.
What kind of needle do you use i just found your channel and love it so much 💕
Thanks Josee! I just use a standard Universal sewing needle....about an 80 or 70 size. That's what I use for 99% of my sewing projects!
So so cute and beatiful ideas thank u so much
Perfect for a recipe book! : )
Love those
This is a great idea! I just got some great cardstock. But I am wondering how many layers of paper you can safely use?
It just depends how much your machine can handle. Start with 5 or 6 papers and see how it goes!
Love this and you!
I wonder if decorative stitches would work?
What needle are you using to sew the books?
Just a standard sewing needle!
that was amazing, now i'm going to make one tomorrow night.
Your such a big inspiration to me as a beginner.from molly I'm 10.
Thanks so much Molly! :) - Dana
I made this and my needle tore the paper it was like the paper was too perforated, any suggestions on making it cleaner and not tear the paper? maybe I'm using the wrong needle or thread?
I want to make these, so cute! What kind of needle would you recommend?
Just a standard needle!
MADE Everyday disregard my other comments! Found my answer!
Oh except, how many sheets of paper can be sewn together easily?
That kind of depends on your machine....I probably use about 1 piece of cardstock for the cover and then 6-8 pieces of paper? Just try it out. Dana
Clever idea lv it
What needle would you suggest?
Just a standard sewing needle
So cute! If you were making these for a school aged child who maybe didn't like the look of homemade things you could put some washi tape down the spine!
