  • When Christ returns to claim His bride, it will be revealed that some of those who claim to know Him are in actuality false believers. He will find both wise virgins who have possessed faith and foolish virgins who have only professed faith.
In this study of Matthew 25:1-13, John Gerstner reminds us that there are many in the church who are not really saved. He examines the outward works that both Christians and non-Christians may produce and encourages people in the church to search their hearts for the obedience that demonstrates the reality of the faith professed.
This is the 5th in a series of messages by Dr. Gerstner on Jesus' parable of the ten virgins. See other videos in the series: • Parable of the Ten Vir...

This has always been a terrifying parable. But it is a direct lesson from our Lord and Savior Jesus. with that said, we must meditate on His word, and this parable, and pray for it to apply to our lives. we can do nothing without God to intervene in our lives to do so.God Bless John Gerstner, whom is now in the presence and Glory of our Lord Jesus!

Yes! Emptied of myself, my ideas, other's approval and everything else that gives me identify. I had to leave it - it was all emptiness and disillusionment. It was only when I was WILLING to become emptied of my self that the Holy Spirit filled me with something that was not connected to this world. From that time, I want EVERYthing, No More - but NO Less that what my Heavenly Father wants for me. God is my PROVIDER - not man. I had to be WILLING to lay it down and Allow God to unfold my life.

The approval/acceptance of others and their opinoins of me has been a huge stronghold in my life for almost 30 years. The past 3 months I have been looking at it and confessing to God that I put too much value on this, and asking Him to help me put this away from me. Thank you, sister, for your encouraging comment. I don't feel so alone in this struggle striving to enter the narrow gate.

I thought that 2Tim.3:15 was the right answer, written by the Spirit, that is, the Holy Scriptures making us wise 'unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus', and alluded to Prov.23:23, as the wise virgins say, because how else can we walk 'in the light' as He is in the light.
The Spirit is not for sale...neither is salvation, or eternal life.

Question: is the holy spirit a gift from God or something which you purchase? The unwise virgins did have oil, just not enough to last out the wait for the master. Can you run out of the Holy Spirit? I agree that we cant be dogmatic about what the oil is, but we can rule out the Holy Spirit. Could it be that the unwise virgins are the Christians who are counting on a pre tribulation rapture? They were expecting the masters return but didn’t prepare for the long haul and were forced to purchase their supplies which means taking the mark of the beast. Just a thought.

Who are the virgins.... the virgins are said to be the bridesmaids. Last I check the bridesmaids do not get married. But are there to observe the marriage.
The 10 virgins are the Jews in the tribulation. The bride is the church. The kingdom of God has no tears among the wheat. Whereas the kingdom of heaven does. And to get to the kingdom of heaven you have to endure.
We are not appointed to wrath. Why? Because we know what Jesus did for us. The church. Died on the cross and shed blood for my sins. We know him. The jews need to know him in the 7 year period. Again, kingdom of god is no tears. Which were in right now, getting to the kingdom of heaven will have tears. Which you must endure to get to. If theirs a mid or post trib rapture then what's the point of a glorified body... if it was post I would be a little... no I'd be mad at God. Theirs no need for a glorified body at post. And if mid, then the bride could be soiled. I'm presented clean, why would the bride be under the antichrists rule. Hes allowing his bride to be ruled by the antichrist? That doesn't make sense.

No no. There is no way to see oil as a metaphor meaning the Holy Spirit. Since it appears to be something you can share, how can you give part of your own holy Spirit to someone? I have no answer, but the whole of the parable is a most difficult one.

The corn. John 16:13 represents the oil. The Spirit Of Truth, and the Holy Spirit, or one, and the same, The Spirit Of Truth, is the eyes of the Holy Ghost, which is a extension of the mind of God, made manifest in the flesh. If you have seen The Spirit Of Truth, you have seen the Holy Spirit in the flesh.

Every exposition on this I’ve heard so far the speaker talks about the parable for a few minutes then goes off on a tangent about something else and this guy sadly is no different. Both parties had oil in their lamps which were all lit. They all slept as they all expected the bridegroom sooner rather than later tho the wise were prepared for the delay by having a second supply to draw on when they all ran out . How can anyone have a second supply of the Holy Spirit ???. What does the sleeping represent ?.

Ok... I have a couple questions, If the oil is the holy spirit:
    1. Why do the wise virgins tell the foolish to go buy oil? You can't buy, and the wise virgins wouldn't have told the foolish to do something wrong.
    2. The foolish had oil, and it ran out... Does the Holy Spirit run out? I think not.

In the tribulation, you can lose the holy spirit. It's not sealed like it is today. When the church goes out, the holy spirit takes the church. The spirit is still on earth. But isnt sealed. It can go out of you take the mark, number or name.

How does one get emptied of oil? I, like Paul find myself doing things I don't want to and not doing things I want to......I get so fed up with myself....it's the jolly flesh that gets in the way.
Must I now ask The Lord to Fully Infill my very being, continuously, so as not to be "tapped out"?

This parable is taken out of context so many times. The oil really doesn't have much to do with anything.
When teachers claim that the oil represents faith or the Holy Spirit, they create a lot of problems. First off, the faith of a mustard seed can move mountains. So the oil can't represent faith.
As for the Holy Spirit, some don't have "half" the Spirit and others have more. We either have the Spirit or we don't.
The oil is not the star of the parable. The virgins represent Israel.
We know that Jesus is the bridegroom. We also know that His bride is the church.
If we notice, the bride goes in with Him.
The parable is like the Jewish wedding.
This is warning the Jews to be ready. Some Jews have believed that Jesus is the Messiah. The other half refuses to.
I hope this makes sense. Lol!
I think sometimes we miss the forest for the trees.

Hello there. :) Please don’t stop reading Paul’s testimony at the end of Romans chapter 7 and think that’s your future (or was his life)! The Good News is not one of salvation and struggle with sin - Jesus died so that we would be FREE from sin! Romans 8:1-2 “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”
I’ve found teaching that set me free. You must take a look at The Last Reformation on RUclips, the Pioneer School in particular, to get an understanding of the power of the gospel to free you from sin, and how you are to respond to the gospel. There’s freedom for you! “For it (the gospel of Christ) is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes (it and obeys)”. Romans 1:16.
Act quickly, don’t waste any more time wrestling with sin when Jesus paid to set you free! :) The real Jesus life awaits you!

@@djohnson3093 kind of like how the Jews believed their ethnicity was a guaranteed shoe-in for Heaven, and Christ had to disillusion them of that.
But, I have to disagree with you about the oil not being the "star" or focal point of the parable or "having much to do with anything", because I believe it very well is and does. The only deciding factor between the Virgins is the oil, and this parable is a comparative and that requires a differentiate - the oil is the difference.
Christ often used comparitive/differentiative parables and teachings to cut to the hearts of the hardened Jews, and open their eyes and ears (hence all of His "it was said of old/but I say" as well as the story of the good Samaritan. And many others).
As for not being able to have "half the Holy Spirit"...what do you make of te ones who called Him "Lord" and proclaimed to do mighty works in His name? How was their work possible w/out the Holy Spirit?

Funny how one little verse can jumble up a wrong interpretation as presented in this video.
    Please consider the following:
    Luke 12:36 KJV
And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.
The man in the video indicates the 10 virgins are Christians waiting to be caught up by the bridegroom to be the bride. However a simple reading from Luke shows the bridegroom is coming FROM the wedding!
The truth is the 10 virgins are Jewish believers being caught up out of the 7 yr Trib to be guest at the wedding feast.

Regarding Matthew 25 and the foolish virgins.. that is NOT doctrine for the Christian and losing their salvation. Christians CANNOT lose their salvation, but Jews during the Tribulation can because they’re saved by faith AND WORKS.
The Church is considered to be the BRIDE throughout the whole Bible, not as virgins waiting to “meet” the Bridegroom
Matt 25:1 “Then shall the kingdom of heaven be likened unto ten virgins, which took their lamps, and went forth to MEET the bridegroom.” KJV
There’s not a single member of the Body of Christ in this entire chapter.
These “virgins” do not go to marry “the bridegroom” , they go to “meet” Him, because He is ALREADY married!
Read Luke 12:36 “And ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he cometh and knocketh, they may open unto him immediately.” KJV
The Bride of Christ is NEVER referred to as “virgins” in the plural; she is ONE
Ephesians 4:4 “There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling;”
And we are ESPOUSED to CHRIST, and we are like a chaste virgin (singular)
1 Corinthians 11:2 “For I am jealous over you with godly jealousy: for I have espoused you to one husband, that I may present you as a chaste virgin to Christ.”
These “virgins” are mentioned in Psalm 45:14 and Song of Solomon 1:3 and 6:8 as SEPARATE from the Bride.
Just the chapter before this one, Matthew 24:45 these “servants” are JEWS, not Christians.
These Jewish, male “virgins” show up in the Tribulation in REVELATION 14:1-4
Their salvation is connected with WORKS (Revelation 12:17), which is why some of them can lose it
This book is tricky, but you must rightly divide or you can live your whole life knowing wrong doctrine. (2 Timothy 2:15)

if the concept of Messiah and God are separate then it doesn't automatically follow that sins can be forgiven.. only God can forgive sins. furthermore if the expectation of Messiah is to reverse the events of Genesis 3 Genesis 6 and Genesis 11 then by Definition messiah has to be more than just a man.
Jesus being born of Mary but not of Joseph is not a problem according to Jewish history because I believe during the reign of Queen Alexandra Jewish law made Heritage pass on, by matrilineal Bases.
A basis for the Trinity can be established in the Old Testament by passages like Amos 4:11Isaiah 48:16.. and Judges chapter 2:1 and Daniel 7:9-14
Support for the idea of God becoming man in Scripture are Deuteronomy 18 verses 15 to 18 Focus of the verse speaks of the coming Messiah coming from lineage of Israel like unto moses.
We also have Exodus chapter 23 verse 20 and 21 the context of which is speaking about the future Endeavor of going over Jordan then we come to Joshua chapter 5 verses 13 to 15 and the context of this passage is having just gone over the Jordan into Israel.
Another proof of this idea perhaps most glaringly Jeremiah chapter 1 verses 4-10... the first thing you want to pay attention to is titles in verse 4 and verse 9... Hashem and the word of the Lord these titles are used interchangeably there's some definite implication there but the point of emphasis here is verse 9 because it goes a little further than just anthropomorphic language.
Now the next concern is did Jesus ever claim to be God? And for this the scriptures I would provide are Matthew 26:64 Jesus directly quotes Daniel 7:13
John 10:34 Jesus claims to be the judge in Psalm 82 referencing verse 6
In John 10 versus Both 11 and 14 Jesus Yeshua says that he is the Good Shepherd and you can cross-reference this with the very first line of Psalm 23.
In Mark chapter 6 starting from verse 45 Jesus walks on the water this is something designated in the Old Testament for something only God (job 9:8) can do this separates Jesus from the other people who did miracles.
Where another claim would be is in the fact that Jesus forgives sins, off the top of my head is Mark chapter 2
now certainly there have always been Messianic claimants but none of them have ever claimed to forgive sins.
Now the question becomes why would Jesus so secretive why didn't he just come out and say that he was the Lord God of Israel?... well one scripture off the top of my head of that I would provide here that might be interesting is this Matthew 16:20 "then he commanded his disciples that they should tell no one that he was Jesus the Christ"... my suggestion to you here, would be that the crucifixion how to take place at a certain place at a certain time and under a specific set of circumstances.
Please Look into all the scriptures I made mention here I hope this helps even one person
Hashem bless everyone of you... in the name of Jesus both son and God of David king of Israel, amen..!

It's about the jews the last of them, Who believed , they all had oil and lamps, just no vessels with oil. They took the mark where buying oil after midnight, don't take the mark of the beast. The Holy spirit was take out with the rapture he was the one holding back the night, it's works and faith and by there own blood or live to the end. ASSOCIATING THE HOLY SPIRIT WITH "BUYING WITH MONEY" IS UTTER BLASPHEMY -
And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.
But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.
Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter: for thy heart is not right in the sight of God.

Hmmm I would not get stuck on this rapture which is NOT in the bible, we as Christians are not appointed to wrath but saved by faith in Christ, ever seen that before? Reminds me of Ecc 1:9 kjv So, in Exodus how are they saved? by the blood of the Lamb. What does Christ say? Matthew 13:24 parable gives us what will happen in Christ's own words. I am more concerned by what Christ is telling me and following his ways, he will take care of everything else.
This parable is about three things, the Lamp, Light and Oil.....Please see Proverbs 6:23 kjv and yes, oil is the Holy Spirit. No, not about reading your bible (yes, you should everyday), about being clothed in the proper wedding garments Matthew 22:11-14 And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness, there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth. For many are called, but few are chosen.
You must walk in the Laws and Commandment of God! The man was not clothed in the Laws of God! Yes, I know what you will say....but...but Paul said this and that, Did Christ Follow the Laws? YES! Did the Apostles including Paul? Yes!! Matthew 5:17-18 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. 18For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled.
Christ broke the tradition of the elders which refers to rabbinical Judaism, they corrupted the Laws. He came to show the people how to keep the Torah, he never broke any part of it!!! If you think at judgement you can say, I believe, I believe and by that you are saved yet, you never walked in his ways......You will hear "depart from me for I have never known you" and gone! God says "My Laws are FOREVER" and he says it several times, I believe him. Read Paul's Romans 2 and one other thing, Who is Israel (spiritual name)? Not Jacob! The head of the Church is and if the head is Israel are we not the body of Christ? We are Israel in Christ! Nahum 2:2 kjv Matt 2:15, Hosea 11:1 kjv, Exodus 4:22 and Galatians 6:16 kjv.
Iniquity is moral injustice, wickedness or sin. In biblical terms, it is a violation of God's moral law, which can be described as perversity, for example by judging a group of people for not showing up at an event to which they purposefully have not been invited to.
Not following his Commandments and Laws which he gives you in His Holy Book!
    God Bless!

Well I'm a little late on the comment BUT all the virgins were believers!! As believers they had the Holy Spirit which is why the oil is NOT the Holy Spirit. Remember Christ said he did not come to abolish the law but fulfill it.

Matthew 25 was before the cross. the Holy Spirit wasn’t poured out (on the little flock) until after the cross at pentecost. there were no Christians until Paul was saved, again years after the cross. so, the only people who are in the story...the virgins were believing and unbelieving jews.
“born again” is applied to Israel. they were first born as a nation in (Exo 4:22), so in (Joh 3) Jesus told the leader of sanhedrin they (as a nation) needed to be born again, which will happen in the millennium.
