    If you want to measure voltage drop/resistance, set the multimeter to Vdc and put neg lead on the positive on the battery and positive lead to the power input on the back of the motor, the Higher the voltage reading on the multimeter the higher the voltage drop/resistance in the circuit as the multimeter is measuring the potential difference.

    You must not know about quality inrunner motors..I run nothing but TP Power motors in my electric ducted fan RC models. The “stiffness” that you feel is actually from the use of the best neodymium magnets. Lesser quality magnets don’t have the same strength-So-You can easily turn the shaft on those motors. I have yet to burn up a TP Power motor in an EDF application.

    I would use 8mm bullet connectors each covered by heatshrink to prevent short circuits for connectors. 300A ztw beast should work fine for ESC. I have a 5660 smooth can version 888kv on 12S running their marine ZTW Seal 300A esc and its a beast. Definitely recommend making a capacitor bank for the esc so you dont get voltage drop

    Hope you can help me. I'm new tot he brushless motor hobby. I bought a TP Power 4070 motor 2200kv and yet to buy the battery and esc. I was told that I need to be careful about the length of the wires from the battery to the esc, and from the esc to the motor. Is there a formula for that? Thank you in advance, Bill

    • @AlexLTDLX
      @AlexLTDLX  2 года назад

      That's a good question Bill. What I've found (by blowing up four expensive ESCs - cheapest was about $300, most expensive $1,700) is that long battery cables can lead to voltage spikes which can damage the ESC. Putting a low ESR capacitor bank at the ESC can compensate for that. With long motor cables, I've found that sometimes sensorless brushless motors have a hard time syncing to the ESC. That's much harder to fix. Typically you need a much higher quality (expensive) ESC to fix that issue. Keep in mind, my cables are very long - I'm building electric turbos for actual cars. I tend to prefer longer battery cables with capacitor banks. But if your motor cables are under a meter long, you generally will be fine. Battery cables depend on the batteries and the cable gauge. I'm running about 15 feet of 2 gauge battery cables in my current setup.

I uploaded the video zoomed in so people can see it. Then the second motor that came in had tire tracks on the package and this one is not 100% center either but bcs of the tire tracks, I can’t tell if that’s factory or from getting ran over.

    I’m building a custom winch for my atv you think this would be powerful enough??

    • @AlexLTDLX
      @AlexLTDLX  3 года назад +1

      It's more than powerful enough, the problem is you need torque not rpm. Since horsepower is a function of both speed and torque, this thing doesn't put out that much torque but it puts out a lot of speed. so you would need one heck of a gear reduction to get it to go slow enough to work in a winch. Remember this thing's peak rpm is 50,000. You'd be better off finding an OutRunner motor with a similar kilowatt rating and a lower KV or RPM per volt. But either way, understand that you don't just simply connect this thing to a battery. I've blown up two $300 controllers and I'm switching over to an $1,100 dollar controller just to control the motor. And you're not going to connect this to your car's it electrical system either. On our bench tests we've seen peaks of 22 KW and running power of around 13 kw. 22 KW is more than anything in your house uses, including air conditioning or electrical heat even if your house is resistive electrical heating. The current battery pack we're using cost about $900 and can only run this thing at what I would consider full power for about a minute. But it would also melt down in that minute without ice water cooling. That's the long answer to your question. So in short yes you can use this in a winch, and it would be very powerful. However it's the wrong choice. And you'd probably end up with the world's most expensive winch. Hope this helps.

  • @powerhaus930
    @powerhaus930 4 года назад +1

    Brushless motors usually use a male bullet connector on the motor side and then the corresponding female connector on the ESC wires. I'm not sure what size connectors you would need to handle 300 amps. You may have to do some research to find a connector, ESC, and batteries capable of handling that amount of current.

    • @AlexLTDLX
      @AlexLTDLX  4 года назад +1

    How do you get the Power figure of 20HP?
    I have little to no knowledge of this but I want to make dremel tool where the motor is within the handheld enclosure but has quite a bit of power. I have tried multiple dremels that are sold online but found them to be either too inconvenient as a package or too underwhelming in terms of power.
    I think a motor with roughly 18000 to 22000 RPM and 1-2 HP.
    Is this even possible?
    An answer would be much appreciated.

    • @AlexLTDLX
      @AlexLTDLX  2 года назад

      Horsepower and watts are directly related. 746 watts = 1 hp. These brushless motors are typically 90-95% efficient; so let's say it takes about 800 watts to generate 1 hp with this motor. So far in testing, the highest observed power was 22,000 watts - which is actually over 27 hp. Admittedly, it was burst power, but there none the less. We're typically running around 14,000 watts going down track. You can calculate torque from hp and rpm - this video goes into pretty good detail with some actual data logs from our drag tests: ruclips.net/video/4Wwzjgn4fog/видео.html

      That's true of some of my other motors; but not these. Apparently, the more poles a motor has the more it "cogs" when trying to turn manually. Of course, on the wire touching thing, you're right - shorting the windings makes it even more difficult to turn the motor.

    Whilst the youtube title of 20HP is catchy, the correct specification for this motor is 7000W continuous, which is about 9 HP not 20 HP ! The 11,000 W (20 HP) rating is maximum, but as usual the manufacturer provides no further details as to how long the motor can sustain that power. Common sense should tell you that at a rated efficiency of 90%, the motor will be dissipating about 1.1 KW of heat, so thats not going to happen for long. Chinese specifications...............LOL

      @@AlexLTDLX - To my memory The Flier ESC's don't come with much of an heatsink to dissipate the heat from the mosfets (they worry about weight on RC aircraft ESC's) so you could (should) do what I do with the ESC's for my RC car and boat projects and mod that Flier ESC - strip it down,put a bigger heatsink with a little high speed fan on and/ or use computer CPU/GPU water cooling blocks, a circulation pump and it's own little radiator and repot the ESC, All the parts are easy to obtain from ebay and not that expensive really. Then again If memory serves me right the Flier ESC's don't have much of a peak ampage like the ESC's meant for RC cars, find one that does and it should be a lot more reliable, Especially so if you use the above suggestion . All the best and good luck with your projects.

    Your hands shake alot, you all good?

    • @AlexLTDLX
      @AlexLTDLX  4 года назад

      Yeah - it's an essential tremor that runs in my family. It's been getting a bit worse lately because both my parents have been having health issues, and while my mom's more or less out of the woods, my dad is terminal. I think it's the stress making things worse. I need to make sure it's not MS (my cousin has MS; her dad - my uncle - shook really badly. He was a fairly prominent artist and used it to his advantage. Google "Michael Pater artist" and you'll see what I mean.)

      We've already pushed 22,300 peak watts through it - about 30 hp: ruclips.net/video/TO5nUs0NPm0/видео.html

    Not even close to 20hp..

    • @AlexLTDLX
      @AlexLTDLX  3 года назад

      It's actually over 20hp in our testing. You do know that hp is a function of torque AND rpm, right? This video proves it:. ruclips.net/video/AOL3Qyczt3Y/видео.html. Multiply volts by amps to get watts at divide by 746 (watts in one hp). Before losses, we were over 24 hp the whole way down the track.
