    This was the first, the last and the best video I watched, I even downloaded it and watched it each morning on vacation/holiday but I still had a problem, I was looking for free software by the name of Cimp, Camp, Kiimp and other variations until another video mentioned GIMP. I'm grateful to that person but more grateful to Frank. Thanks

    awesome video! but can you do a "part 2" and show us all how you do the rest? like how you print, cutting and just make it all right? that would be great! ^^

    Yes, it's very important that you let the paint dry in between layers, otherwise the stencil may get stuck to the poster. I usually let the paint dry for about 30 to 60 minutes in a well-ventilated area.

    This is brilliant and it now makes sense to me as a new girl on the block with stencils. I have a free version of GIMP but is not as comprehensive as your version of GIMP. can you tell what version yours is and was it free to download? Thank you

  • @effbott
    @effbott  12 лет назад

    You don't need to cut the background. Just get a red poster and spray paint all 4 layers on top of it, going from darkest to lightest. You'll notice that each layer fits inside of the of previous layer.

  • @effbott
    @effbott  12 лет назад

    I just use a regular X-Acto knife and poster boards bought from Walgreens. I also put a cutting board beneath the poster while cutting; it helps greatly.

    I've been doing it with posterize, threshold and editing it by pix for years now and I got to admit your way is way easier. Thanks dude. How do you cut your stencils?

    thank you so much for this very informative tutorial! I've been making stencil art by hand drawing simple 2 layer stencils but this is exactly what i needed to get to the next stage of stencil art. One quick question. When printing the layers how would you print them by the size you want? do you spread the images out over many a4 sheets.. and cut them from there?

  • @blazlok

    Go to layers. Go down transparency. Click add alpha channel.when u erase it will have the checkered background.

    Just go to Windows -> Recently Closed Docks -> Layers, Channels, Path, etc., or if you just want the Layers window, go to Windows -> Dockable Dialogs -> Layers

  • @drlilosk
    @drlilosk 11 лет назад

    You can copy them onto Paint (but it lowers the quality of the image) and in the printing options you can choose how many sheets of paper do you want it to take

  • @effbott
    @effbott  12 лет назад

    Make sure to select the layer that you wish to fill, and also pay attention to the layer hierarchy. The bottom layer is your background layer.

    I really like this tutorial...the only thing is, I get kind of confused on some of the "islands". When I have my layers separated and made, I notice that there are some parts like eyes for example, that are going to be missing if I cut out the image. What do you do for this>

    Any thoughts about how to save the white layer ? I can't seem to select the white parts, and when I try to save the layer as an image it, obviously, turns out all white. I have thought about the "draw a line around your selection"-tool but I can't seem to select the white parts so this is not an option..

    major problem, you made four layered pictures, you need to show how you can cut that out and actually paint it. Cool video, but without showing someone how to leave tabs in the cut out, they will waste their time trying to paint it.
