  • Louisiana is a state composed of many diverse cultures scattered across its geography. Approaching towards the south-central reaches of the Pelican State, one will eventually encounter the culture of the Cajuns, a group with a rich heritage going back hundreds of years in America. Ever since being exiled from Atlantic Canada (formerly known as Acadia) in the mid-1700's, the Cajun people found refuge and remained around the bayous and wetlands of coastal Louisiana (not yet part of the US), thriving as an independent series of communities and maintaining a French-derivative culture quite distinct from the rest of Anglo-influenced America. For the Cajuns, a traditional subsistence revolved around harvesting the creature they most often found throughout this landscape-crawfish. Not just was this crawfish a source of food, but it also became the key to allow these people to continue a humble lifestyle, in an otherwise harsh environment. Today we celebrate the lasting culture of Acadiana, as this region is also called, by attending the famed Breaux Bridge Crawfish Festival. Drawing tourists from all around the world, it wouldn't be the iconic festival it's known as without the vibrant traditional Zydeco music performances, spicy Lousiana food, classic carnival amusements for the kiddos, and of course, a crawfish eating competition that is sure to wildly excite a crowd. Are you ready to handle the spirit and energy of Louisiana's Cajun Country as we experience the greatest festival dedicated to a crustacean, today the centerpiece symbol for a people and state altogether?

Not sure if I have ever had crawfish either, as I have had jambalaya, gumbo and other Cajun style foods, and it all looks delicious and fun! Could not imagine eating more than 2 or 3 pounds of anything in one sitting let alone...50 something was it? Imagine carrying 50 pounds in such a small space like that! Those guys were not that big. Amazing!
Good to see people out and having fun when it is relatively mostly safe after all this time.
Only way I'm likely gonna have washboard abs is exactly like that gentleman in the band!

I’ll just say that some of those people in the competition were absolute beasts with the crawfish consumption. Some of course lost their momentum after they ate way too fast and couldn’t take in any more, so I’m sure it’s all about getting that balanced pace. Such a lively time that festival was, and yes indeed, extremely hard to stay in good figure when tempted with all those stands cooking some wild fair food haha

So tired of seeing creators going to bug festivals and not saying the prices of the bugs. Also more disappointing not even eating the bugs. Pathetic
