  • This segment from the “What’s in a Name, Part 3” episode of the series “Lost Louisiana” from December 7, 2006, features Charlie Whinham’s visit to Breaux Bridge in St. Martin Parish, a city designated as the “Crawfish Capital of the World.” Whinham talks to local historian Kenneth Delcambre about famous people from Breaux Bridge, the origin of the city’s name, and his discovery that the city was founded by a woman named Scholastique Picou Breaux in 1829. Whinham and Delcambre also take a walking tour of the city, including the site of the original “Breaux Bridge” and the statue of Scholastique Picou Breaux. Whinham also touches on the city’s famous Crawfish Festival.

    My grandfather is from Breaux Bridge. Just like many other Moutons.

    Being a Cajun that grew up not far from there, it's apparent little has changed over the years. I say this as a result of spending my life learning while most I grew up with could care less about most things even those events that created their own culture. Look at the comments and likes... 2 comments 34 likes.. a year since this was posted. I love Cajuns but hate their attitudes towards others and their own true heritage!
