Look, I'm American, and even I don't think Irish and Scottish accents sound anything alike 😂 But maybe that's because I watch too much TRY Channel, Diane Jennings, Mosco, and David Tennant content...
In the comics, Scrooge is Donald's first uncle. The brother of Donald and Della's mother, Hortence McDuck. In the 40s, this timeline made more sense because Scrooge is supposed to be modeled after gilded age industrialists like Andrew Carnegie. Personally, I like that they didn't try to update Scrooge by making him a 20th century capitalist, but it did mean they had to add explanations for why he's still alive.
I find it little strange that in the Mickey, Donald, Goofy trio, only Donald get's these references of their age (maybe it's different in comics, I only read some old ones)
@@nicolaim4275 I think I know that comic. Donald was applying for a new job at a museum, but the manager was holding his application papers upside down, he thought Donald was over seventy and so he fired him. The story then shifts to Donald accidentally wishing he was never born to a genie.
The show does eventually manage to explain why Donald is of normal age in spite of his uncle's absurd longevity. Scrooge does exaggerate a bit when he talks about "centuries", though, he's not even 200 years old yet. As for Magica's grudge, either she's exaggerating too, or she used to have beef with one of Scrooge's ancestors too.
What's hilarious is that even though Dewey got swallowed by a magical money shark, it's still better than if he'd actually landed on that pile of money.
Magica dispel is voiced by Catherine Tate. This is actually hilarious when you realize that she also played Donna Noble one of the David Tennant doctors companions.

The b-plot with Scrooge's interview about the damage his adventures cause plays an important role later on. Magica, out of all the characters in this show, is the one who has changed nationalities the most. In the comics she is Italian, with her lair being mount Vezouvios, in the 87 show she sounds Russian, due to her voice actress doing the voice she did for another character she played and in this show she sounds British. Scrooge is voiced by David Tennant and Magica is voiced by Catherine Tate (i think that's her name). We have a Doctor Who and Dona reunion. 7:37. Scrooge does not have a brother (unless you count one story in the European comics). In the comics he is the middle child and he has two sisters. His youngest sister is called Hortense and she is Donald's mother. 9:41. It took me years to realise that joke. Scottish and Irish accents sound similar. Unless I hear an Irish and a Scottish person talking at the same time, I don't think I will see the difference
The original idea of magica de spells obsession with the number one dime is how she wanted a dime that has been touched by a wealthy person a lot for a midas touch ritual. She went and baught a few dimes from scrooge, got the number one, scrooge tried an exchange, she found out it was the first and thus touched most, shenanigans, scrooge got it back. As both characters developped over the years, more and more mystic powers were written for the number one dime, so now it can kinda do anything in magica's hands.
Objects of deep sentimental value often make for good magical catalysts. It's a pretty common trope but Adventure Time also used it as well. In the Dime's case Magica was always after it for more generic reasons in the '87 series but it's much more significant in this one.
Originally, it was a midas touch ritual involving a coin that has been touched by a rich person a lot. Over the years, it developped to basically making a witch who melts it in a vulcan a god.
Hey everyone! Remember to keep the comments free of any spoilers of future episodes for Mosco. Have fun & be creative with fake spoilers! Also, make sure we’re keeping the comments cool & comfortable for everyone here. Enjoy the reaction y’all!!!
I don’t know what’s sadder - the abuse Lena gets or the fact that if I had my own dog, I’d name it Tiffany after a semi-obscure Magica gag. Magica, by the way, is my favorite of the rogues gallery so that probably doesn’t help the latter
There is actually a historical issue called the 'Tiffany Problem', Tiffany is actually a timeless name (a shortening of Theophania) that was popular throughout history, but everyone seems to think it's out of place in anything old. It's completely historically accurate to have medeival characters named Tiffany.. but it just feels off to us.
The shark being a shark was AMAZING foreshadowing to Della actually being trapped in a deep sea laboratory right next to a bunch of hydrothermal vents and a giant glowing goblin shark named Jarvis.
I was waiting for Moscow's reaction to, "What part of Ireland are you from?" Both times (Mrs. Beakley and Roxanne Featherly). Not to mention the humor leading to annoyance she found at Scrooge's annoyance with the question later in the episode.
Scrooge is 150 when this series begins (2017). He's alive through supernatural means, as he discussed. Donald and his twin sister are both 36 (normal-aged, no supernatural means). This means their mother Hortense, Scrooge's sister, had children only 36 years ago, but if she is believed to also be supernaturally older and still alive (she is Scrooge's younger sister), then she had her children quite late in life. So Donald just has a super old mother, who is likely still spry like Scrooge
There could also be quite a big age gap between Scrooge and his sister. Their parents could have had Scrooge quite young, and then his little sister could have come along well over a decade later, then she had kids later in life herself. The numbers are still going to be funky regardless, but you could probably make them look almost possible, at a stretch, if you squint a bit.
Donald and Della are the sons of Hortensia Duck, the sister of Scrooge, so they are his nephews. Magica saying that she and Scrooge have a feud that last for centuries is just an expression to say that they always have been enemies from the moment they met and that it seems like an eternity.
6:30 Lena is actually a racoon who magically took the shape of a duck, racoons are considered thieves by nature and very untrustworthy in the Ducktales universe so most racoons either go into hiding or disguise themselves.
Fun fact, in the first ever appearance of Scrooge's swimming in money, he admits its an acquired skill and tricks the beagels into knocking themselves out by trying. And you can see louie training himself to try throughout this season, like bathing in poker chips a few episodes back
A couple of fun facts about this episode The scene with Scrooge jumping into Tiffany's mouth is right out of the movie Reign of Fire which had Matthew McConaughey, wielding a battle axe, jumped into the mouth of a dragon! It's a good chance that prior to this episode Webby and Lena have been hanging out together and have been getting closer with each other friendship wise. There is a comic book story of them playing a hide and go seek game that leads to an adventure with just the two of them. This episode is the first time we see Lena begin to openly rebel against Magica. Mainly because Lena is now seeing that things are not exactly as Magica is saying and Magica is somewhat losing it due to desperation. There is a little bit of a blooper regarding what Magica is telling Lena regarding her history with Scrooge. Like much of your viewers here, I also was waiting for you to lose it with Roxanne and her intentional jab at Scrooge. “Tell me what part of Ireland are you from?” she came in with an agenda and that was meant to rile Scrooge. Note I'm usually good at listening to accents and figuring out where somebody is from. But I unintentionally made the Irish Scottish mistake once. Only once! Fortunately the person I was speaking to was good about it. There is one thing that did not make sense. At the end when Lena, reluctantly, drops the friendship bracelet Webby made for her into water, what happened to it? It didn't sink. It looked as if it dissolved away in a puff of blue colored magic.
It turns out screwge hates magic because he is afraid of having his immortality spell screwed up (he just didn't figure out the spell till he was a fair bit old)
The Merlock from the magic book that Webby has is an easter egg to Merlock the Magician, the main villain in the 1990 Ducktales movie, Treasure of the Lost Lamp.
You don’t know how happy it made me to see you do like me and pause on that corkboard screen to read every details! XD Also, I love how you are getting crazier and crazier on your “predictions” at the start of episodes… that was a good one too this time! Also… yep, I REALLY like Lena storyline, and I’m pretty sure she’s new for this series.
I've been waiting for your reaction to the "what part of Ireland are you from?" gag and you did not disappoint. As someone whose ethnicity is not clear at first glance I get how annoying being mistaken for something you're not can be. If you want to watch another Disney show with an interesting take on Scottish history and lore I would recommend Gargoyles.
Love that in this video alone, you get a lot about what Mosco’s loves and hates. She Loves interesting deep lore and great story telling. She absolutely Hates anyone who would ever EVER confuse Scotland with Ireland or England. 😂
So, the Beakly clan has been watching over Scrooge, who's actually Donald's grandfather btw, since he made his fortune which is why she's training Webby to be her successor. Additionally Magica isn't Lena's aunt, but her mother! Oh, and the Duck clan is actually from Ireland and it was just Scrooge who was born in Scotland when they were passing through.
I can't wait for you to react to the episode where Lena gets freed and she gains her own body and it's revealed that she's actually a younger version of Della.
You're on the right track in the beginning. Magica isn't Lena's aunt. Lena is the granddaughter of the person who kinda looked like Beakley in the painting. That makes her Beakley's sister, Webby's great aunt. But Lena was trapped by Magica, who erased her memory and turned her young again, so that she could use Webby.
Scrooge is 156 years old and hia sister Hortense is Donald's mother. That's why Donald's last name is Duck instead of McDuck, his father's name is Quackmor Duck
I cant wait for your reaction to when in the final scene of the season, it’d revealed that the triplets mother is secretly ms beakley and theyre all clones of scrooges secret lost twin Feathry (yes, even beakley is a clone)
So yeah. Lenas relationship with Magica is very abusive. They make that pretty clear, and its great to see the Lena work though and past that in later episodes.
Scrooge trapped the souls Magica's sisters in a black candle and it must be lite by a virgin to resurrected them. The dime is the key to finding the candle.
The funniest part about the whole Ireland thing is that Scrooge actually does have Irish ancestry. His mother's maiden name is O'Drake. And speaking of maternal mixed ancestry Lena is actually half hummingbird and hiding her non-duck features under a glamour. Magica promised to use her magic to erase hybrid discrimination and allow her to freely live as herself. This is also why she's so attached to Webby, because her excitable personality reminds her of her mother.
The money shark is a reference to Succession. Logan Roy will try to buy out McDuck Enterprises in season 2. We will get a whole subplot of Kendall and Louie trying to sabotage the deal.
Lena is actually a doll that Magica brought to life by putting a piece of herself into her before Scrooge defeated her. Magica wants revenge against Scrooge because Gorge Mallordy was her twin brother and she blames Scrooge for abandoning him on Mount Neverest.
Catherine Tate voices Magika. She was also one of the companions to David Tennant's 10th Doctor, making this the 2nd series they both participated in together for multiple episodes.
I mean, donald might be calling scrooge 'uncle' because that's easier (and more understandable to the public) than donald always saying gran-gran-gran-gran....uncle.
There are all sorts of clues in these episodes that were apparently meant to be secret hints to future seasons, we saw a SMALL number of these, but, sadly, with the show being dropped, we likely will never get even 1/10 of the planned storylines.
This seems to really be your kind of show. You like a mystery and there seems to be more than one going on on a continuous basis. Although, i think that they will all converge and have some common answer because they are all a part of the same mystery. Your really into being Scottish and your Scottish roots and so is Scooge. It is also not very predictable so you don't get bored with a very obvious outcome every time. I hope you find another one like this to replace one of your low performing videos that you react to. I'll let you know if I find anything that might fit the bill.
Lena is actually the evil twin of Turbo, Jet, and Rebel, who I haven't been entirely honest about the nature of. They're actually evil cousins who are all the same age and the sworn enemies of Donald Duck. So Lena being the evil version makes her good I guess. I don't know, it never really made much sense. Though somehow beneath all that Magica's hatred of Scrooge managed to end up perfectly understandable.
No lie I have a friend from Scotland who I thought was Irish and she gave me a glare that made my ancestors face-palm at my dumbness when I said she sounded Irish.
Magica is voiced by Catherine Tate. Fake spoiler: Magica Despell uses her mother's maiden name rather than her father's surname of McDuck. She hates her father Scrooge McDuck but can't access the dimension without her father's treasure since the portal needs a mystic item on both sides, she has her mother Raven Despell's wand already.

This is also why she's so attached to Webby, because her excitable personality reminds her of her mother.
any story with Leena is an instant win for me, seeing her develop is just great and i love her bond with Webby which this episode shows
The money shark is a reference to Succession. Logan Roy will try to buy out McDuck Enterprises in season 2.
We will get a whole subplot of Kendall and Louie trying to sabotage the deal.
9:37 I’ve been waiting for her reaction to this part LMAO
No it's Donald's mother that's related to Scrooge his father's where he gets the duck surname from instead of being a McDuck
Lena is actually a doll that Magica brought to life by putting a piece of herself into her before Scrooge defeated her. Magica wants revenge against Scrooge because Gorge Mallordy was her twin brother and she blames Scrooge for abandoning him on Mount Neverest.
Getting Scrooge's #1 Dime has been Magica's thing since the comics.
Catherine Tate voices Magika. She was also one of the companions to David Tennant's 10th Doctor, making this the 2nd series they both participated in together for multiple episodes.
Great reaction as always. No fake spoilers but...
Just you wait for the next Lena centric episode 😅
I mean, donald might be calling scrooge 'uncle' because that's easier (and more understandable to the public) than donald always saying gran-gran-gran-gran....uncle.
Got your Lena lore with this one finally
I've been waiting for this episode since you first said you were reacting to this series.
There are all sorts of clues in these episodes that were apparently meant to be secret hints to future seasons, we saw a SMALL number of these, but, sadly, with the show being dropped, we likely will never get even 1/10 of the planned storylines.
Just take note of the color of the magic when Lena uses the amulet it's purple when she doesn't it's a light blue color that has to mean something
Just for the record Scrooge's sister was Donald's mother not his brother
Happy friend-a-versary!
7:35 Donald is related to Scrooge through Scrooge’s sister
This seems to really be your kind of show. You like a mystery and there seems to be more than one going on on a continuous basis. Although, i think that they will all converge and have some common answer because they are all a part of the same mystery.
Your really into being Scottish and your Scottish roots and so is Scooge.
It is also not very predictable so you don't get bored with a very obvious outcome every time.
I hope you find another one like this to replace one of your low performing videos that you react to. I'll let you know if I find anything that might fit the bill.
i was waiting for this episode just to see her reaction of "what part of **ireland** are you from?" comment from beakley😂
Great reaction!
7:07 I just realized FoF
That’s smart
Magica and Scrooge were a couple in the demon realm. He sided with Belos and had Magica's sister killed.
Scrooge is everyone’s great uncle
