Palm Blast. The great equalizer towards bullshit. I love the dryleaf arts. They are perfect as they are. If they nerf the weapon art, then they damn well had better buff the basic attacks.
EDIT: My personal Dryleaf build is as follows.
Sacred Dry leaf arts R1 (Palmstrike), Sacred Dane's Footwork L1 (Dryleaf whirlwind).
Erdtree Seal in both second slots.
Healing incants.
Talismans: Godfrey Icon, Axe, Alexander Shard, Cracked Stone.
Physic: Crimson bubble, holy shroud cracked.
They suck pretty bad, they need to massively boost the poise damage
I actually wasn't aware you could change the affinity without changing the ash of war, so I never even messed around with palm blast, I just used Dane's footwork by itself and eventually swapped back to my old build
@@mattyryon They're like caestus. The only attacks that stun are heavies. They are very much a weapon to time charged heavies on. I can trade with larger weapons when I time heavies right.
@@thomasdevlin5825 Yeah. A sacred infusion is awesome. It lets you use the best healing incantations while maintaining damage since sacred infused dryleaf scales primarily off of faith.

The kick/stomp talisman will give you an additional 10% damage on every kick. Hammer talisman makes shield bois even easier targets for stance breaks and follow up crits
I use it w Alexander great shard and the bird feet whirlwind kick can "one shot " some

I believe the divine bird leggings also increase kick dmg, but I could be wrong

Lost, you need to use palm blast to end your combos. If you catch someone with R1’s you can follow with an uncharged palm blast for a roll catch if they go left or right. Also, if they try to respond rather than roll, you have infinite poise and still win the trade because palm blast has insane base damage.
If you infuse it with Sacred it becomes a Psalm Blast.
Law of Causality would be a good pairing with this since it's a faith build and you cant be knocked out of palm blast. anyone who tries will proc loc and it sounds much harder to avoid both of them

Martial arts aren't as bad as you make them out to be. I use them one handed with incant casting build and only do jumping and running heavy and charged heavy. For that playstyle, the normal Dryleaf Arts are much better imo. As the one handed heavy is a very quick moving forward kick to the face.
That being said im speaking about PvE and decently high level. I'm running them quality with blue dancer. Believe the AR is around 560 of pure physical.
The 1h running heavy reminds me of the andre dropkick back in ds1 (I would never kill him but I saw someone pit npcs against each other).

Idk about you but I'm having a ton of fun with the cold infused dryleaf arts. Charging up your strong attacks do an absolute ton of poise damage and with the heavy palm of doom and cold procs, it's so fun
Hand Jumpscare
I don't personally play PVP in these games simply because I just want to play the base game without interference from other players. The base game is difficult enough. But I definitely see the appeal! The thought that as an invader, you could potentially take down multiple enemy gamers in a party with a fun and interesting build is appealing to some. I've never found it that interesting. I've always viewed it as "Raining on someones parade", but in this game, as an invader you have to fight multiple people, unless someone chooses to fight you. I'm enjoying watching these videos so far.
I must say actually, Lost. I have found these weapons to be pretty good but you need to go at it with a particular approach. The two unique weapon arts are both great in my experience, the palm blast is slow but with that hyper armor and extreme damage in one go it has its place. But the tornado kick is quick, multiple hits, and does surprising damage.
As for its regular attacks.. Yeah, normal strikes are nothing worth writing home about, but the sprint heavy or jump heavy are quick and by god are they good at breaking guards, the MVPs of the base moveset. The damage they can dish out is pretty good, plus with overall quick attacks they are great to push out status effects swiftly. I am not the most prolific PVPer but I have still had good success with a frost built dryleaf arts with the tornado kick.
Might be worth trying that approach out as well just for something fun and different? Also, kick/stomp talisman affects the base attacks for kicking too, great permanent damage boost right there for the tornado kick + light & heavy attacks.

What people don't get is that at 600 ap on a h2h is equivalent to 1200-1800, because you will hit 2 or 3 times before other weapons hit once including daggers, fist weapons.
Cap most weapons move faster than the strikes on martial arts

I love the running R2. One handed fighting option is my favorite with palm blast and incantations in other hand. Black flame ritual, catch flame, rings of light, and scouring black flame. My combos are crazy. I am more like a Naruto character than elden ring swordfighter.
I LOVE this ash of war. Simple, but effective.
Unironically spiral horn shield and stalwart horn charm or mottled necklace talismans might be good for this build just to prevent status buildup that can interrupt the weapon art.
Cold with whirlwind slays breaks stance with jumping attacks & major damage when cold pops then the debuf = perfection. My build uses back hand blade bleed, throwing knives fire, dryleaf arts cold whirlwind, danes footwork divine cold beast stomp the bloody song of fire & ice
The spinning kick ash of war has been an incredible trading tool to end a fight I'm already winning.

I do hope to see a frost and frenzy perfume build at some point. Also the swift leaping poison kick I felt was an interesting ash of war.
Apart from status effects, the only thing that can knock you out of doing palm blast is 4 consecutive hits from a colossal sword
There's the kick talisman and the bird pants that buff kicks! This can still get better imo.
Haven't seen the video yet but just from the title I agree. Palm blast literally only works because people think the solution is challenging it. Anybody who knows how the build works can just wait till after it comes out and punish
I'm typically bad at invasions, normally losing. When helping my friend through Shadow Keep, I took out two invaders with Palm Blast 😂.
Shoulda used the divine bird sets legs bruv. With Danes footwork it grants increased damage

Palm blast gives me the hyper armor i want with my big weapons its great to just have in pve also grab attacks inturrupt it
It is balanced cause it holds you completely still and you CAN be killed in the animation it's just tougher
I do wish the martial arts could compete a bit better with other weapon options. Same with light greatswords.
I would be fine if it lost it's infinite hyper armor, as long as everything else about martial arts got buffed. They need more damage, poise damage, and status scaling.

I think it's a massive shame that there is effectively only one hand to hand weapon. I can understand why, since there literally is no weapon and it's just hand to hand combat, the only variation you could get is with the moveset, meaning they would have to build a totally unique weapon from the ground up every time, but that's exactly why having several of them would be so cool
Dryleaf basic attacks are below average and you can't use weapon buffs, so having good weapon art is the only way to keep it alive
Could also do golden vow just to be sure. I wonder how dry leaf whirlwind does in pvp because it's nasty in pve.
by far one of the most fun abilities, i like how it increases your defense i used it to fight those fire basket fuckers haha
I get that from wants to make invasions harder the us host pwners, although i disagree how its been done and i think its fundamentally flawed, from is terrible in this regard. But they need to keep OP weapons like this the way they are. Flame knights great sword was awesome having a true two hit combo. Now its been nerfed unnecessarily and is just another greatsword.
Palm blast must work well on an elevator too. But love on an elevator isn't about self love....

It’s supposed to be high risk and high reward if they nerf it, it would make palm blast unusable and ppl complaining about it especially those who die to it, its really their own fault for just not avoiding it the move has no range and you should recognise the animation especially if you died to it before so you should really know to just stand back and out range it

Runes weren't even in Limgrave, they were in Belurat, near Euporia, but not in the room, on the castle wall outside, where you can't even access it. How?

I agree with the power of palm blast.....i do not agree with the absurd amount of hyperarmor it has....found a guy, in robes, in the colisium, that was able to oneshot me with it...which i was absolutely chill with...except that he took the entire beast claw ash of war to the face before unleashing the blast....but people are just gonna tell me i should have used bleed and that the amount of poise on that ash is perfectly balanced....

Not every time you have better HA than you opponent. Don't just trade - space, roll maneuver, etc.

Do the martial arts weapons work better one handed or in both? Because I heard some people say one handed is better but I never tested it
1h is better imo because the 2h moveset is a tad slow. Most of the 2h moveset are 2 consecutive attacks instead of 2 attacks simultaneously. 1h moveset is much faster as a result

Why aren’t you using the kicking talisman?
The biggest disappointment for me with the DLC was that there were only 2 hand-to-hand (why didn't they call it martial arts) weapons in the game and they have the exact same stats and barely different animations.
This is incredibly easy to avoid. The charge up is long and obvious. How is it that so many people just stand there for that long and face tank it?
I don't think its broken.... incredibly easy to dodge or avoid, does really low damage unless charged to the max, even if you stop a split second early and you can use bleed, frost, sleep or madness to stop it. I think is ok for it to do that much damage and have that much poise 🤷♂️
