This Jem of a song.... slammed through the charts like a freight train... pulverizing any grunge waiting to be heard..with SB making sure true metal wasnt going out without a fight..
Flag on the play: revisionist history. Now, for context, I LOVE Skid Row, and I was CRAZY about this song. But 'grunge' wasn't a thing, not yet. Skid Row S/T dropped in 89, but Nevermind was 91. Before Nirvana, you had a couple bands in the charts that could be described as 'alternative', (I'm thinking the Chili Peppers, REM, The Cure) but nothing that I EVER heard described as 'grunge.' I would posit that the first Skid Row single that went toe-to-toe with 'grunge' per se was Monkey Business, and we all know how that fight went. You could say that Nirvana was 'waiting to be heard', but my issue with that is that Nirvana's first album was on Sub-Pop. That's an underground label. They put out records by The Dwarves, Mudhoney, Poison Idea, true underground bands, at the time. 'Bleach' era Nirvana was in competition with bands like Black Flag, the Misfits, the Chili Peppers, or Ministry. 'Nevermind,' on the other hand, was a Geffen record. THAT put Nirvana in competition with Guns 'n' Roses, Aerosmith, The Eagles, The Who... it was a different SCALE. Once Nirvana was being distributed on the scale that it was GONNA get heard, it got heard, and Skid Row was NEVER a significant threat. And I say this as a guy that likes Skid Row 10 times more than I like Nirvana.
@@JustGuitarThings The previous comment said this song slammed through grunge 'waiting to be heard.' My point was that grunge hadn't really become a major force yet.
Holy Get-The-Fuck-Out, it must be more than a _decade_ since I last heard this song . . . I still knew every single word tho'! - I grew up with this band and as a genuine, angry, scared and confused, rebel without a clue, youth gone mad, their songs got printed permanently on my subconscious. There's enough clutter in my mind that they can get buried from time to time, but a bit of a nudge at the right time brings it all flooding back. Ah, good times! (Well - if I'm honest, not so good. Pretty bad times actually, just like the younger years of pretty much anyone who feels attracted by this kind of music I'm guessing. The good songs got us through tho'!) Thanx a lot dude, for the trip down memory lane as well as the excellent performance! Rock on!

You sound great!!! How do you record your guitar with the backtrack. Your mix is awesome. I hate the way I do it. I try to line up my guitar audio with the MP3 backtrack in Camtasia. I want to record all of it at once.
hahaha dude i just put out a cover which i played in D standard, and its my first ever attempt to do a song by ear and you play it so fucking differently and it sounds so much better LOL. Btw you got any tips how to play those diagonal bluesy licks thats in the second solo? seems like you play it different than me cause i did it with 3 diagonal notes and you dont it looks like. But when its like diagonal, do you pick everything with alternate or use a rake/sweep?
You can't know for sure unless you see the person who originally played it but over time you get experience on what shapes work best and where to play them.
