  • Narrated filmstrip (replete with "beeps") where Corvair dude thrashes the '60 Ford Falcon for having a inconveniently-shaped trunk (never mind that Corvair has NO real "trunk" (and that the folding rear seat was an extra-cost option)...
You might have to turn up the brightness for this one.

My mom had a 1960 Corvair that she bought new until 1980. I grew up with that car and it was a great one! It was quite reliable and required few repairs. It was mostly used around town and it did its job very well.

I learned to drive on a 1962 manual shift Corvair. Loved that car!

I use to own a 1960 Corvair 700 model 4 door ! & what a great automobile it was , & with regret I sold it to make room for a 67 Corvair Monza convertible , The 60 lived up to everything in this advertisement what a great automobile ! I still own the 67 along with a 65 Corsa 180 turbo coupe , & a 64 Greenbrier Deluxe 6 door with the optional 110 hp , & Power-Glide , But I'll never forget the 60 ! Thanks for the video.

    Growing up, our family had a 64 Monza convertible (110 / 4sp), later on I had a 66 Corsa convertible (140 / 4sp).
My Mom worked at a tire store and was given a free set of Michelin radials, it was funny seeing mechanics shake their heads when my five foot and a bit mom tried to tell them the tires weren't flat. ;-D
One winter our Corvair (64) was the grocery getter of the neighborhood.

As a marketing - guy, I can only say, that this was a phantastic concept.
Unfortunately it did not work properly.
And the CORVAIR was one of the best car - designes of the US - car - industry.
And with the improved rear axle from the beginning of production it could have been one of the most succesful vehicules in the 60 ' ies and 70' ies or even later.
I had never a chance to drive one, but I have had different VW ' s ( cheap and reliable but cold and unconveniant) and I am shure, that the CORVAIR was significantly better.
    Greetings from GERMANY. 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍 👍

They drove quite well and the second generation that debuted in 1965 handled exceptionally and corrected almost all of its ailments but by the its reputation was damaged.

The Falcon may have been less attractive, but it passed the test of time. My grandmother bought one in 1964 and drove it until 1972. She drove a lot more than to church and the hairdresser! It made twice yearly trips from northern CT to Miami, FL plus lots of local and short trip use.

My uncle bought a brand new ‘62 Corvair. It was only a few months old when he was heating it up in his garage one morning when the fan belt broke and the car caught on fire in his garage. He pushed it outside by there was black spot on his driveway for years until the driveway was repaved.

As a presentation, it seems like they were selling the Corvair on the same points the Model-T was sold on 50 years earlier. Nice to see Corvair fans in support. Honestly mean that. Referring to Mr. Solomon's reply, by the time I was looking for my first car, "Unsafe at Any Speed" was still making waves and also when I was 12, a Corvair hit me (at low speed) in a crosswalk. Needless to say it wasn't on my list.

Falcon outsold the Corvair 3 to 1 in 1960. They were priced lower, had a good heater, a real trunk and got better gas mileage. They also offered a useable station wagon.
    That being said...
The Corvair is more fun to drive.
I own both an EM Corvair and Falcon.

This is a dealer information presentation. The idea is to help the dealer sell the automobile. The automobile the dealer will be selling is the Corvair automobile. The more Corvair automobiles the dealer sells the more money he and the motor company will make. The Corvair automobile is an automobile model within the Chevrolet Division of the General Motors Corporation. The Chevrolet is a member of the “low price three,” the entry level automobiles of the respective primary motor companies. The entry level automobiles are the Plymouth (now discontinued), Ford, and Chevrolet, of the Chrysler Corporation, Ford Motor Company, and General Motors, respectively. The Corvair automobile is a small, sporty automobile with its engine in the back trunk instead of under the hood in front of the driver. The car was particularly dangerous because it fishtailed out of control around corners and had little in front to protect the driver’s head if he should crash into a telegraph pole.

The Pirsche and VW Beetle had the same layout. Corvair was much more stable to drive with wider track.

@@michaelplunkett8059 and the fact that people and service techs were used to the same pressure at all corners, whereas the corvair had different pressures front and back.

I don’t think the differing tire pressure was emphasized enough to potential buyers or service station attendants! It was critical to the car’s stability.
