Interestingly enough, there are ways to do it in 3 lines and even one line technically. You could do it in 3 lines if you essentially draw a slanted N, hitting every dot once it’s stretched far enough. Also , if you were to print this on paper, you can roll the paper into a cylinder and then make one continuous line around the whole cylinder and cover every dot with one stroke. So always remember there are always more efficient ways.
When thinking about this problem the N method was the first solution I came up with, and it technically is not restricted by the rules provided. In a graphical situation points and lines have zero width, so it wouldn’t be functional. However, he says “Like this” and with the size of the dots and lines provided, you can definitely use 3 ~0.01 slope lines to hit all the dots.
and still the n wouldn't work because it depends on how big thepoints are, in the end if we really want to do this with punctual Points it'ss nt possible no matter how long you stretch it. And thhe cylinder doesn't work with the straight lne but i might understood your explanation of it wrong
@Hermes The N works. Using the same logic and misdirection he used, we can infer that the dots are supposed to be the size drawn in the video, not graphical points, and he never said that they have to pass through the center of the dot.
My friend told me about this puzzle 7 years ago on the bus but he did not explain it to me clearly. I remember how I spent hours trying to solve this and now, here I am at last. The feeling of satisfaction from finally finding out the solution is priceless.
They never specified how small or large we had to make the dots or how much space had to be between each one. So in theory you can solve the puzzle in one stroke if you have a giant marker.

You would simply have to say fuck it and just do it like that. checkeraka47 You dont get the point of this puzzle. If i told you that you can draw outside the box then it would be easy. But if i didnt then it tests if you think outside the box or you are narrow minded person. He never said you only had to be in the box.
If you refer to the definition of what a line is, The solution is legal. The instructions said, "your task is to go through all the dots using straight four lines and every new line must start from where the previous line ended". That's it, there isn't any additional info. The idea is to capitalize on how open the instructions are which is exactly what the solution does. If they tried to explain it further by saying, "You can make any line as long as you want" they might as well tell you the answer, and what's the fun of that? The definition of a line answers that though. Thank you Geometry class, lol.
It's weird cause it seems like there's a way to do it with the implied size limit. You start off hitting 3 dots with your first line, and if you somehow manage to hit 2 dots per line in the next 3 lines you hit 9 dots exactly (3 +2+2+2 for each line) you can only hit 2 dots after you draw the first, unless you expand the lines out or do some of the things suggested. The main problem with trying to do it legitimately is that the dots aren't in a possible configuration. The way they're set out makes it so that the last 2 dots you'd need to hit are impossible to get with one straight line.
It is not possible becuz Dots-: 1. 2. 3. 11 4. 5. 6 7. 8. 9 10 Note-: the dots 10 and 11 are imaginary Steps-: 1) start from line 1 and go till line 10 2) from 10 make a line till 11 3) next make a line from 11 to 1 4) and finally make a line from 1 to 9
There is actually a simplier solution, where you can solve this puzzle with a singular line. If you make a tubular object out of this sheet of paper you could actually send one line going all the way around it under a small angle, so it hits all the dots. And before you say that it's impossible to make a tubular object out of a sheet of paper: use glue, duct tape, stapler or anything otherwise adhesive or binding in order to fix parralel ends of the sheet of paper together, thus, creating a tube.
It is possible with only 3 strokes. Rules only say that the lines have to be straight. If you start with your marker way below the first row of dots, then draw a straight line slightly diagonally through all 3 dots in that row so you can turn around at the top and repeat for the remainikg rows, it works
+KatariaGujjar That is actually pretty easy to do. First fold the paper into a cylinder and then slightly shift it where the 2 ends meet so the end of the 1st line of dots meets the start of the 2nd line. (hope that makes it clear) You can then draw 1 helix shaped line through all the points, which is in fact completely straight (you can check this by unfolding the paper).

+Conatus No, it says that the total number of straigt lines can only be 4. No more straight lines than 4. I was going to comment something similar but checking the comments saved me some time (not really since I am typing). So I guess you are not so genius after all. And by you, I mean the one who came up with this in this video in particular. Great Nova Powered MC !
Easy. Just use a spherical piece of paper and start from the center. Make a stroke in either direction of choice: up/down, right/left, upper right/lower left, upper left/lower right. You will always end up back at the center so up/down is really one and the same, as are all other directions.
I just looked into this, and then make a proof that it is impossible if all the start and end must be on these dots, then done, i looked to other points : not on dots
For the top 3 dots, draw a horizontal line, then do another one for the centre 3 dots, and one more for the bottom 3 dots, then from the centre bottom to centre top, draw a vertical line through.
I gave this to my whole family to try this Me: tried but gave up My brother: he didn’t even try and was kinda annoyed when I told him the answer My mother : tried but made it with 5 lines and was also annoyed when I told her the answer My father : he tried many times but couldn’t follow the last rule and kept swearing when I told him the answer

Am I a genius or an idiot? When someone showed me this problem years ago, I immediately grabbed the pen and drew vertical line though left and middle lines.....and then I folded the paper so that the line from the left side would "touch" the right slide.
It is creative indeed. But if you are to solve by the rule, it would be wrong, coz you were suppose to make use of 4 lines and not any less than 4. Try it out this way and you'll find it challenging.
+Rajiv Tharayil no there's no possible way of doing that there is no more dots left it's like if you told me to eat a cookie in 4 bites I wold just shove it in my mouth

To solve this problem for any number of points, look at the Bridges of Königsberg problem. What makes this example different, is only straight lines are allowed between these points. This isn’t a genius test- it’s just connect the dots- so don’t take it too seriously.
My teacher once made me do this puzzle and gave me one hint “Think outside of the box.” And she meant that literally. Edit: what the hell happened when I was gone for a week?!?! that's a cheat. I tried to solve it without going outside the dots and I couldn't solve it. I thought I was going to see a cleverer person than me on this video, not a smart-ass..
I did it in 3. he never said you have to go through the middle of the dot, just that we have to go through it. All you do is go in a large, W-like zigzag (with the end points being about 7 dot long)

@@nicolascasteleyn9579 he just said straight lines, he drew straight lines. What more do you want.
but how mamy are just rotations or mirrors?
If every line must start where the last one ended, you can't make the first line because there's no line to start off of.
Nice one haha
The rules did not state that you could extend the line beyond the perimeter.
They didn't say you couldn't though
+Xander Polk We were under the idea that it would be alike a password on a tablet or phone.
there is no perimeter, do you see any box surrounding the dots? the only perimeter is the edges of the paper, which he didnt go beyond
I said idea. It was the idea that we had to stay within boundaries that fooled us. Had you fallen for it?
Neither did they say it couldnt
I've got another answer: started with "left up" to "mid down" and line get out of "square", going to all "right" line, get out of "square" and cut "mid up" and "left mid" points, get out of "square" and with trick on video with big dots, cuts "left down", "mid mid" and "right up" points

I've got the answer. Take a marker, and draw a line all around the earth. Put the line on a slight angle so that when you come back it will hit the next 3 dots. Do it in one line that way
you are not a genius
but yoj are funny
please calculate me that angle
@Guarav Jindal is on about the degree of an angle, he wants the degree of the angle so that he could basically calculate the: "Equation".

Great Nova Powered MC !
+Raj Harsh Well... I guess that's just down to interpretations of the rules, lol. It said "Using only 4 STRAIGHT lines".
This is one of those situations where instead of it being "Aww, cool, that's what I had to do", it becomes "AH, HOW WAS I SUPPOSED TO KNOW THAT?"
yeah
By thinking outside the box
@@notvex3987 literally
My feelings exactly
Mk mythologies sub zero was THE EMBODIMENT OF THAT
Easy. Just use a spherical piece of paper and start from the center. Make a stroke in either direction of choice: up/down, right/left, upper right/lower left, upper left/lower right. You will always end up back at the center so up/down is really one and the same, as are all other directions.

This is so deep I think I just shit myself
It's not about thinking outside the box. It's about realizing that there's no box
I just took a giant marker and made a line go through all of them in one line…
U have to legit go outside the box
I just looked into this, and then make a proof that it is impossible if all the start and end must be on these dots, then done, i looked to other points : not on dots

For the top 3 dots, draw a horizontal line, then do another one for the centre 3 dots, and one more for the bottom 3 dots, then from the centre bottom to centre top, draw a vertical line through.
guys, the trick is simple. a line is of infinite length. you can use as many line segments as you want! XD

so by that logic there can be only 1 line cuz it doesnt end

fold the paper so all dots align then stab the paper with your marker.
So yea, 9 dots with 1 line. I win.
so evil. i like it! lblueveryevilplan
That line wouldn't connect the dots, because the dots are on three different planes. So only three dots would be connected.
you do realize that there are THREE planes right? X, Y, AND Z. doesn't mater how you look at it its still ONE line. :P

Am I a genius or an idiot? When someone showed me this problem years ago, I immediately grabbed the pen and drew vertical line though left and middle lines.....and then I folded the paper so that the line from the left side would "touch" the right slide.
+joestl314 That sounds like genius to me, You followed all the rules and came up with a creative answer.
I don't know but it was clever. But it wasn't right either.
It is creative indeed.
But if you are to solve by the rule, it would be wrong, coz you were suppose to make use of 4 lines and not any less than 4.
Try it out this way and you'll find it challenging.

+joestl314 that... is genius.
Impossible. Any "genius" would know that those were line SEGMENTS, not lines!
the point is that you have to think out of the box to solve it. There are no rules make it invalid.
Samson Simhon The rules of life state that these are line segments, not lines. That fact alone makes this invalid ;)
KILLTHESHROOM OH DAYUM! :O
KILLTHESHROOM Ok math genius ;)
MCJBeatz if u say like this then ...>>drawing a 2d plane on earth is never possible man>> bcoz earth is round nd the plane should extend upto infinity in all directions>> nd also drawing a straight line is not possible>> we only show upto that portion of a line in which we r interested nd just cleverly give n arrow to indicate that it xtends in both directions>>
To solve this problem for any number of points, look at the Bridges of Königsberg problem. What makes this example different, is only straight lines are allowed between these points. This isn’t a genius test- it’s just connect the dots- so don’t take it too seriously.
To the people who claim that they did it in 3 lines.
1) Are the lines connected?
2) Are the lines straight (90 degrees or 45 degrees), not skewed?

The rules also didn't say if you could use a pen pencil or marker, 99% of the people couldn't figure that out?
They did that on purpose so you would need to think out of the box a little bit.
