    Hi, glad you like my hometown favorite noodle 'kolo mee', i personally love the red kolo mee, almost everyday i eat it. the red colour is the char siu's red sweet sauce (tasty and sweet grilled taste), black noodle is sweet dark soya sauce & white noodle is onion oil mix with vinegar.

  • @MrClarity8
    @MrClarity8 3 года назад +36

    Mee Kolok actually originated from the Hokkien dialect kon lou mi meaning noodles mix with sauces, usually at central area (Selangor,KL) we mix with soy sauce (dark,light) and some secret sauce. If southern Chinese they mix with homemade sambal/chilli.
    For Chinese people, kolok mee is actually wantan mee which is from Cantonese people meaning noodles with wonton aka dumplings. But Cantonese people prefer the soup version. Hokkien people prefer dry version thus the dark color is for Hokkien. Whereas, Hakka and Foochow people will eat the white version kolok mee. (Hokkien, Cantonese, Hakka, Foochow are Chinese ethnics.)
    No worries as we also have halal version of kolok mee.
    Well, Ajinomoto is very famous in Malaysia and I am one of their Umami Club members. Ajinomoto umami chemical name is monosodium glutamate or known as MSG.

The red sauce here is made from the pork dripping from roasting the char siew. Kaz don't feel bad about receiving free food. It's normal for Malaysians to give free food.
    Sarawakian kolo mee uses different noodles( curly noodles) only made in Sarawak so what they do is sometimes they have fly the noodles all the way from Sarawak. Kaz laksa Sarawak is very very delicious. Very very addictive i assure you.

    The most popular Mee Kolok restaurant in Kuching, Sarawak is Mee Kolok Haji Saleh. The que to have it is daily long. It is the halal one. I'll surely fly there from KL once a year to have it if not because of this MCO.

    Actually the red colour/sauce is from the sauce/oil drippings of the char siew meat. For the halal version we use chicken.

Sarawak is a Land of Diversity of Race, Religions and Cultures. That's Why the foods that come from Sarawak are so diverse like for example: Mee Kolok, Mee Laksa, Mee Kampua, Midin Goreng (Also known as Stenochlaena palustris or Local Fern), Nasi Goreng Dabai, Ayam Pansoh, Ambuyat @ Linut and etc. May be next foods hunt or explore, u can try Nasi Goreng Dabai (Fried Rice that is fried with special fruit called Dabai: a seasonal exotic fruit that similar to Olive) or Ayam Pansoh (Chicken Cook In Bamboo). Anyway, Keep It Up! 👍🏻👏🏼👍🏻

    The authentic kolo mee merah in Sarawak is made with the char siew sauce lol!! The local will poll the red chili with vinegar into the noodle so that it is less oily while eating. Welcome to Sarawak my hometown. There are many local delicious foods can only found there as some of the ingredients are only available there so you can’t find It elsewhere

    Kolo Mee is the English name for mi kolok(Bahasa Sarawak)
    mi kolok merah/red contains "char sui oil" that gives the red colour to the noodles and makes the noodle "sweet tasting"
    There are many variations to the mi kolok. My fav is the mi kolok with black vinegar😋
