Slightly different, because it was off the pitch but Cantona was banned and fined for 9 months for kicking an aggressive and provocative fan one time with no real power. De Boer said he doesn't know how he would have reacted if he got attacked on the pitch. The referee explains why he went for a straight red. He says that he saw the goalkeeper kept on kicking the fan when he was already on the ground. That's an aggressive action by the goalkeeper, which lead to the red card since aggressive actions are forbidden by the FIFA-rules.

What an absolute disaster this referee's decision was. I am not a fan of either team, but first, the no-penalty decision was shambolic and then this incident. What was he expecting? That hooligan could have injured the goalkeeper!!
the black shirt guy attack first well the good thing is he only got kicked by goalie but what if he got kicked by the rest of the team you know what happen if it does
Ajax hooligans enters the pitch and attacks the AZ goalie. The goalie protects himself and kicks the hooligan...the referee proceeds to give him the red card. AZ-manager Verbeek decides to take his team off the pitch because of this. I'm an Ajax fan, but this was a good call from Verbeek.
I'm confused as to why you keep referring to the law. Nobody is claiming the keeper should have been arrested, just that he was right to have been sent off by the referee.
+kflem80 It's first your personal safety than any trivial football game; He was under attack so He did what He had to do cause he didn't know what was happening.

+kflem80 the fan deserved it..the keeper acted in self defense..if you attack someone you should be ready to face the consequences ! the ref was wrong !!
+Deecky Rizzo The 'fan' did aggravated assault on a player. Using violence with means to injure. There is nothing about kicking the fuck out of the fan to defend himself from that in the rulebook. Think again next time.
epicgaminggames That is actually what IS IN the rules. You can't kick anyone on the field. That's why the referee showed red card. I think it was well deserved, even if it was self defence. He's a professional in work hours... you can't do that in any job. And there are people in charge of those fans. And shut up with your "think again" shit... everyone has an opinion, and people who doesn't share yours, aren't less "smart" than you... just listen theirs and give yours, if they change their opinion, that's well, but if not... it doesn't concern to you.
epicgaminggames It's too difficult to me to explain the rules, because i don't speak english very well, but i think it's common sense to think KICKS on the field is against the rules. So, anyway... i'm glad the ref did his job even against the opinion of people who think kicking the shit out of a person is OK.
I think your English is quite good. But you're basically saying that just a kick against anything is against the rules. I know that's not what you mean. But still. Still think the red card was unnecessary and that card did take it's toll for both Ajax and the ref his reputation.
An Ajax supporter(on drugs, I think) came on the field and attacked the AZ(team in blue) goalkeeper, who defended himself. The goalie then got a red card for violence, and the manager of AZ send the whole team off. It's a shame club football is often disrupted by violent supporters.
oh okay, that's what I thought happened, but couldn't understand the language. Thank you for your reply. and yes it really is sad the idea of violence and football. and the Ajax supporter kinda deserved it.
An Ajax fan attacked the AZ goalie, the goalie fought back and by the rules, the ref had to give him a red card for that, which if ofcourse ridiculous. The AZ coach was outraged with the decision of the ref so he stopped the match.
Good decision making of the referee. Kicking when someone is on the ground isn’t self defense anymore. It’s the same energy as the fan rushing to kick the goalkeeper. Self defense was done first. Attacking after which means red card.
Great call from the coach. Why is your player being sent off when security can’t do their job?

De Boer said he doesn't know how he would have reacted if he got attacked on the pitch.
The referee explains why he went for a straight red. He says that he saw the goalkeeper kept on kicking the fan when he was already on the ground. That's an aggressive action by the goalkeeper, which lead to the red card since aggressive actions are forbidden by the FIFA-rules.
Dutch language so different :) u hear one english word in a while and try to peace the centance together but you just cant! )))
4:21 adidas commercial: "the fastest boot just got a brain"
😂😂
Tja die keeper had veel harder moeten trappe
What an absolute disaster this referee's decision was. I am not a fan of either team, but first, the no-penalty decision was shambolic and then this incident. What was he expecting? That hooligan could have injured the goalkeeper!!
Yo. Did the ref actually come out and make a statement. That's crazy.
Dec 2011... TAKE ME BACK PLS 😭
06:33 "....I'm here to control the rules, and the rules say that this is a red card."
People like these scare me.
When I first saw Alvarado kick the supporter I thought "WTF is wrong with this guy?"... fortunately, now I know the truth.
What is the truth ? I wanna know
Yousef Mwafi Didn't you see the Ajax fan attacking the goalkeeper? He just defended himself.
+MrJuanbaz oh yeah I thought you meant something else
Yousef Mwafi It's OK haha
but the man was on the floor and the goalkeeper was still kicking him.
the black shirt guy attack first
well the good thing is he only got kicked by goalie but what if he got kicked by the rest of the team
you know what happen if it does
What happened to the Az team? Were they suspended or fined for leaving the match?
Well done manager :) (y)
Ajax hooligans enters the pitch and attacks the AZ goalie. The goalie protects himself and kicks the hooligan...the referee proceeds to give him the red card. AZ-manager Verbeek decides to take his team off the pitch because of this. I'm an Ajax fan, but this was a good call from Verbeek.
Wesley van Wilsem, schaam je
Exact
never liked Verbeek, but the decision to leave was golden!
gertjan verbeek Held
The guy is defending himself because security, who's job it is, did not, and you give him a RED card haha.
referee had no choice but to send him off for violent conduct
+Pat McGovern the card was revoked and the match replayed
wow, amazing, the guy is a thug
I'm confused as to why you keep referring to the law. Nobody is claiming the keeper should have been arrested, just that he was right to have been sent off by the referee.
Letter of the law the referee was right to show the red card. Once the fan was on the floor but the keeper still kicked him it becomes violent conduct
+kflem80 It's first your personal safety than any trivial football game; He was under attack so He did what He had to do cause he didn't know what was happening.
***** I don't know man, it’s your own safety you know, but you have a valid point though cause I’m against any violence in this beautiful game that all of us enjoy. ‘Pura Vida’ from Costa Rica.
***** Yeah man, the guy was on the ground so the kicks were uncalled in some way and I respect that point of view for sure. Sometimes people just lose it :( .
To be fair he is defending himself I suppose. I don't know what i would do in that situation
+kflem80 the fan deserved it..the keeper acted in self defense..if you attack someone you should be ready to face the consequences ! the ref was wrong !!
Wasnt the keeper the one who got the red?? Or what happened?
Violent conduct is a red card, the ref got it spot on!
love it how he gets ready to punch the guard as well. Don't fuck with Esteban. greetings from Costa Rica
This is why Dutch football is like the 17th best league
6th best league in the world but ok
It's really weird everyone think this was not red card. There are rules, violence is not allowed, and the ref did his job.
Prove that it is in the rules, and laddy, next time you go on a rampage, think again. I never called him less smart or anything. Knob
epicgaminggames It's too difficult to me to explain the rules, because i don't speak english very well, but i think it's common sense to think KICKS on the field is against the rules.
Legendary recomendation by youtube
I'm a Ajax fan, well done to the AZ coach for not taking any bullshit
@Robin Truby being a coach is not just a job
Why didn’t the ref call that foul at 27mins??? There was obviously a bias and it was great they walked off!
"Want to see my rulebook? No, I can't read Braille. "
It's the home team responsibility to provide security. Since the one got attacked is the away team, they decide to leave the match.
Would have been nice to add some subtitles
Can anyone who speaks Dutch translate what the announcers said during the incident in to English?
Since that day Nijhuis never whistled for a foul again 😅
The ref probably didn’t want to send Esteban off but the rules stated that he had too so I don’t get why he gets so much hate
So what happened? the whole team left the game? i don't get it?
An Ajax supporter(on drugs, I think) came on the field and attacked the AZ(team in blue) goalkeeper, who defended himself. The goalie then got a red card for violence, and the manager of AZ send the whole team off. It's a shame club football is often disrupted by violent supporters.
oh okay, that's what I thought happened, but couldn't understand the language. Thank you for your reply. and yes it really is sad the idea of violence and football. and the Ajax supporter kinda deserved it.
Gallan30: was it the goalie that got aa red card ? Cause I thought it was another player who didn't do anything and that's why they went crazy
Yeah the goalie got a red card for defending himself. Absolutely ridiculous in my opinion.
''Zuid-Amerikaans Temperament'' hahahaha, briljant Frankie haha
Solo stima.
An Ajax fan attacked the AZ goalie, the goalie fought back and by the rules, the ref had to give him a red card for that, which if ofcourse ridiculous. The AZ coach was outraged with the decision of the ref so he stopped the match.
which team did win in the rematch
Good decision making of the referee. Kicking when someone is on the ground isn’t self defense anymore. It’s the same energy as the fan rushing to kick the goalkeeper. Self defense was done first. Attacking after which means red card.
So what happened to the man who attacked the goalie?
Most satisfying video ever..!!!!!
