I still am impressed by just how loud fighters are. A normal jet airliner like a 737 flying at cruising altitude is pretty much inaudible to me. Fighters flying at the same altitude are incredibly loud. Or maybe a little lower. I've had a few fighter jets fly over my house, tho it's pretty rare. Kevin Button You need speed to intercept bombers. By the time the F35s arrive, your ass would have already been bombed. Bombers are also escorted by fighters, so your F35 will have no chance. An F15 flight would be more logical.

@@kevinbutton4580 I've never liked how people always blindly hate on the F-35, but Boeing is right, its a bad decision. The F-35 tops out at 1.6 Mach, while most of your nuclear bombers [Similar to the F-111 Ardvark] would be pushing Mach 2.0-2.4 and above, the F-35 isn't and will never be a interceptor, its primary roles are CAS and Air Superiorty. Leave intercepting to the F-15's, F-22's and F-16's, all of the aircraft I pointed out at least hit Mach 2, armed with the right weaponry they could take out bombers and fighters easily.

The aircraft they are scrambled to
Intercept are already at the gates before he gets in the air. Strike 1....opening van door.....leave open...strike 2. Closing door.....strike 3 aircraft entrance, for a situation like this O would want the APU already fired up or at least a Quick Start system like the KC-135R....a scramble crew or ground crew could start the APU at the base of the boarding ladder. By the time the pilots were up the ladder, Seattle’s and strapped in the APU would be on line and ready for bleed air. Assuming a quick thinking ground crew didn’t already fire up the APU when the scramble klaxon went off.

Well, at Least there's still some things left..........
As a kid, my Dad and I saw a SAC/TAC scramble, kinda by by accident.... 1965....
Very calm. Dad and his friend chatting and then like the movies, but very real WONK WONK WONK...and that calm commanding "SCRAMBLE... SCRAMBLE... SCRAMBLE..."
The double doors next to us burst open and pilots and crewmen just ran by .....out to waiting F-4's and into pickups to haul them over to the B-52's staged across the line.
My Dad asked his friend if it's serious and he said, " No it's a drill. I'm watching those three F-4'S and the crews on the end here. There's three other CWO's closer in. We're fixing it."
That's where and when I realized that in the old Army and Air Force, that Warrant Officers had as much power as Generals, and could call a alert any time they wanted to.
We left with the B-52'S. Too much noise by then...lol!!
BTW: the pilots and crews were washed out to the DEW line for the remainder. Not going to lose a Top Sqdn Commander for 17 bags that could not meet a basic standard.
