    I wasn't getting it to mesh at first but then realised I had added the 360/(80/16) to the sun-carrier link as well. Removed that and now everything is working as shown! Hope that helps someone.
    Awesome tutorial. It would be great to drive some of this parametrically!

    For any new comers that are having trouble make sure the mesh is correct, instead of using the equation 360/6 for the carrier- sun gear motion joint, I did 360/5 and it worked for me 👍 ( so the ration is 5:1, 80 teeth and 16 teeth)

      I noticed this after watching the joint flags rotating and counting the rotations. Then I had to get rid of the "+360/(80/16)" added to the other motion links. No extra math needed, just the correct formula from the start. Thank you!

    The hardest part of modeling a planetary gear in Fusion 360 is getting the motion links correct. Just remember that the relationship between the rotation of the sun gear and the planets also needs to take into account the rotation of the carrier.

    if you are confused at 4:35 , when you create your gears. Keep the pitch diameter. Then just measure the distance from the planet gear's diameter to the ring gear's pitch diameter. Then just move it in that direction by that value

    Dust4K, thank you for the video. I went from knowing nothing about gear science or fusion 360, to creating a rudimentary system. The gear ratios are all messed up but I have a fundamentally different question. I'm trying to create an eccentric 3 gear system inside a gear ring. The 3 rings are of different size, but i was able to make them rotate as a system, albeit with incorrect rotations. Anyway, what i'd like to do is ground the outside ring and have the 3 gear system rotate within it. I'm anticipating the 3 gears rotating around their center AND along the outside ring. Is this possible?

    • @RELUvance
      @RELUvance  3 года назад

      First, I'm so glad the video was able to help you! That's impressive that you were able to get as far as you did without any prior experience. I "think" I understand what you are asking. Yes, you can ground the outer ring, or even the sun gear, and have the other gears rotate accordingly. It should actually be similar equations to what I used in the video, but just applied to different gears. Fool around with it and I think you should be able to get it. Would be interested to hear how you made out.
      Try this simulator: www.thecatalystis.com/gears/
      You should be able to set the ring gear speed to 0 to achieve what you are looking for.

    • @groznoy
      @groznoy 3 года назад

      @@RELUvance Thanks! I have decided to abandon the 3 gear system and just go with what you have. I do have a problem now where I can't join the pivots to the carrier. When the carrier rotates, the pivots/shafts stay in place. When i try to rigid join them (shafts with carrier), then the carrier doesn't move. I've been able to get all the gears to move properly without the carrier. Any advice? Thanks.

    • @RELUvance
      @RELUvance  3 года назад

      @@groznoy It sounds like you have the shafts grounded... perhaps inadvertently when you were trying your other scheme? I would try ungrounding / unconstraining everything and starting from scratch to see if that helps.

  • @gabipaczolay5183
    @gabipaczolay5183 4 года назад

    Hey Dusk, great video! this really helped a lot!
    I just had a question... so I modeled everything exactly the way you did, but when I rotate all my gears at the end (even after the updated formula 360+360/(80/16)), I have gear teeth overlapping with teeth from other gears. Do you ever use contact sets in modelling gears? This is my first time doing gears in Fusion so I'm quite new to this still.
    Thanks!

    • @RELUvance
      @RELUvance  4 года назад

      Yeah it is still a bit tricky sometimes to get the gears to mesh correctly. Are they all rotating at the correct speed but just not meshed? Or are they rotating at incorrect speeds too? I don't use contact sets for gears because there are so many contact points that it seems to slow everything down so much. Contact sets seem to work pretty good for simple one-contact point components but haven't had much luck with gears.

    • @callanjerel
      @callanjerel 2 года назад

      @@RELUvance I had the exact same problem as @Gabi Paczolay, but I was able to fix it by changing the rotation of the sun ring from 360 + 360/(80/16) to 360 + 360/(80/35). I just put in random numbers until it meshed well, I have no idea why its 35 instead of 16, but it meshes perfectly. The planet gear also didn't mesh well with the sun gear

      Hi Eric, there are a couple of ways to do it. Yes, you can use a smaller module, but you can also change the number of teeth and keep the module the same. Root fillet radius is calculated as 0.38 x module.... I didn't use this in the video but that is the correct way to calculate it.
