    It's so generous of you to offer this level of instruction gratuitously. Thank you for sharing your knowledge, Liron. 😊 This is excellent info. I watch a lot of watercolor videos, and your instruction rates in the very top few, IMHO. (Go join Liron's Patreon, if you can, ppl. Content there is really good, too!) I just love the way you, Liron, approach learning WC, how you think about it, and that you are so good at conveying your knowledge. Great teacher. ✍ Great Artist.🎨🖼 Thanks, again.

    Liron Yanconsky I'm so grateful to view this video. In the process of painting a similar scene and searching for help with colors for the location which I've never visited. Your great instructions have answered many questions. Anxious to get started. Looking forward to more of your valuable lessons.

    I really like how white paper can look SO white against the darks. That's how I know I nailed it when painting snow scenes of any sort.

    I love this painting! It is also very helpful to see how you preserve the white without messing it up or having to scrub. The negative painting and dry brushing also added so much interest and aerial perspective. I'm still working on this type of stuff. Great work, as always! Thanks.

    Hi Liron! I love seeing your traditional paints now as well as going back in time to your Urban Sketching videos. Your Channel and and only Tio (sp) and a couple line and washers are on my radar for Spring and Summer. I will look closely at my improvements at the end of the period. I want to create art that I like! It's for no one else except to give gifts and to leave an artful legacy for my family. Thank you and will see you again soon. Good video!

    I admire the way you are sharing your watercolour journey and developing your own preferences and style! Try darkening the nearest mountain shadow and warming it slightly. Also if you look carefully at your source photo you will see deeper tonal shadows on those mid-range mountains. Also look at sky. See how a stronger valued graded blue wash would have helped throw up and add punch with your focal point mountains and the horizon. It's not a crit but an observation. Colour choices are always personal, I find, but accurate tonal value renderings will make a huge difference, Liron. Hope you don't mind me issuing advice, but I find your honesty in your own evaluations of your ownwork rather inspiring.

      It's weird that you would see my comments as a criticism. They are not.but, Liron, himself talks about improving his own technique and knowledge in many of his video, isn't that so, Liron? This is NOT bad or negative. This is the sign of an artist who is self-aware and from always improvements will come. I am not watching Liron's videos in a crit mode. I enjoy them.

    • @SeanTWright

      Clearly language is the barrier to understanding, and we can go around and around, but you miss my point. Alas, it is not the way it is meant to be. Sad that you still feel that I crit, Liron. Not so, but now is the time for Liron to add his take on this, I think. What say you, Liron?

      Thank you for the great advice (:
      I observed the painting again after several days and came to some similar conclusions.
      Warming up the closer peeks was something I haven't thought about, though.
      It's amazing how much can be learned from one painting.
      You have some interesting videos as well, I'll be following.
      Thank you! ^_^

      I always go back to my own art work and think: "shouldn't have done that, or I know how I can improve that!" It's part of what every self-aware artist does instinctively, because they desire to improve their art, make it the best it can possibly be. Thanks for kind words of support. You're a star!

    I very much enjoyed your narration on this sharing your thought process as you go. I can see why you're pleased with the end result. I, of course, do have a bit of input LOL I don't believe any "white" in nature is actually white as it all reflects the colors around it. But, perhaps, as an oil painter (now gouache) I see things a bit differently. I agree with you that the horizon completes with the foreground mountains. I would have darkened that area but, again, that's just me.

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  6 лет назад

      Thank you - that's great input (:
      I noticed many inaccuracies in the values, once I observed this one with a fresh perspective (after a few days).
      I think it can sometimes be wise to use "perfect" white, but on other occasions I would agree that the white isn't really white.

    I love charging in color, but I practice and fail-it's getting better. I find I can lose my mid-tone because I tend toward too much water. I am taping up a 6x9 today. It's beautiful out and I am just going to sketch and photo something in my yard. Wish this old gal a fun day-the painting does not have to work out completely. I will be happy with progressing outdoors and trying to get the values. Values give me trouble-it's a learned thing to see like a painter. My initiation into that is the beginning of an adventure!

      Thank you, I own a value card and have another on my color wheel. I will be using them. My loss of mid tone when charging is due to water-pigment ratio still and I decided last night to choose a much smaller brush for that I am definite for sure that this is the technique I want to learn control over and almost tossed my latest work,t , lol. I managed to recover it with some glazing. I love learning to use tools, but I am not going to be a professional artist. I am not learn at a gentle pace, and do my paintings with a no fail attitude now. I look to find what is wrong, and move on, pull another sheet, and paint it again ;-)

    Ok... a really noob question! What the point to paint the first wash with light blue, then the second with green/yellow and the last with a dark blue that cover all the previous ones? 😉

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  3 года назад +1

      Great question actually! I find that by painting every layer to cover EVERYTHING I can - the result flows better and looks more connected.
      You CAN instead paint directly the value you see (aka go dark immediately), but you may end up with gaps between the different areas (: And less connectivity.
      Another reason is to have some effect of colors showing through. So for example a thin yellow wash, followed by a thin blue wash. The yellow wash will show through a bit.
      I hope this clarifies it! With that - try it your way! You may prefer a more direct approach, and it may work really well for you 😁

    Why didn't you use a masking fluid in order to preserve white of the snow in this painting:?

    • @LironYan
      @LironYan  6 лет назад +2

      Because I personally hate masking fluid 😛
      I feel like it detaches my from the painting.
      I'm kind of a "If I can do it myself..." kind of artist.
      With that being said, I think masking fluid is a 100% valid tool for getting things done. I just don't like using it personally.
