The funny thing about the crawbster having such good A.I. is that it's meant to be encountered in a giant empty square room where you'd never realize how smart it is.
I was considering getting this mod, even during the Cavern of Chaos and the Hole of Heroes. *But this single floor* has made me change my mind and say "you know what? Just watching it is OK."
Honestly, I feel like the only thing that makes this final level particularly infuriating and unfair is the darkness. I mean, boss spam is nothing new to Pikmin 2 Kaizo, even Man-At-Legs and Beady Longlegs spam. Even the Crawbster is fair, but all that combined with literally not being able to see a single thing except your pikmin when you use spicy spray. A singular modicum of light would make this challenging but fair, but it's currently just unfair, which I guess is what Kaizo is meant to be.
I don't know if Kaizo is supposed to be "bad game design 101" or just challenging game design, but there are several things that could have been done at several points to improve the mod. I get it's supposed to be Kaizo difficult but man, there's a point where you gotta mix it up, and where you gotta learn the difference between "bad frustration" and "good frustration".
inexperienced game devs often conflate "kaizo" with "utter bullshit you can't do anything about" Actual kaizo is actually completely fair, it's just about execution.
Yeah I'd say this is pretty inexperienced game design... Kaizos are supposed to be hard and _feel_ unfair, while still being totally possible. But THIS is mostly just spamming bosses, RNG, and unfair crap. I'm sure the developer of the mod means well and is still learning though, especially given the "experimental textures" they had were just two cave maps on top of each other, which causes really aggressive z-fighting.
@@lasercraft32 I agree with all that except the "I'm sure the developer means well" part. I bet they're legitimately happy with how unhappy this makes people. Otherwise it would have only taken half a brain to realize this is stupid.
The original Kaizo Mario, the mod that started the trend, as bullshit as it can be, never just puts a black filter over the screen and then pretends from the player to complete a level full of instant kill traps they cannot even *see*
If you are to try again, I recommend doing this: Bind the reset and save states actions to F1 through F5 Turn the music off in the options and play a non-copyright playlist for your own sanity. (Keep the sound on to hear stuff like the crawmad, etc.) If you’re doing good on the Titan, use burp sprays constantly on the other bosses. Might as well use them all. 1 purp is all you need for the treasure, if you can distract the bosses. When you reset, save then explore the layout first (esp to pinpoint the crawmad) if you like it, load the save. if not, reset. If you get all 5 treasures, save and run like heck to the geyser; don’t look back. I believe in you man! This series is a big reason as to why I’m replaying Pikmin 2 myself rn!
I already thought the base pikmin 2 dream den was unfair and unfun, IDK how you've ever managed to get through as much of this mod as you did. honestly good job
You know... the idea of playing *Pikmin 2* essentially with the lights off sounds like a genuinely fun and interesting challenge. Even fighting the Titan Dweevil could be fun, especially because of the obvious audio cues. But with the insane ENEMY SPAM?!
Huh. I get the concept of kaizo. I get the fact that it's supposed to be unfair. But there is a wide gulf between unfair and complete bullsh!t and this... this is on the wrong side of it. Ngl I actually think the fight sounds interesting and maybe even fun with the lights on... but this pitch black nonsense... just no.
I don't know how it happened, but I got recommended this channel one day and I've been having a pretty good time ever since. It feels so undiscovered, currently
The bullets shot by the man at legs can damage enemies, so it might be possible to kill the crawbster by running around as just a captain and getting the man at legs to shoot it, though it might need to be on its back for the damage to be calculated.
There’s actually a sacrifice you can make to have the final floor be much easier: have 90% of your pikmin be yellows and blues. It’s a sacrifice because the initial floors will be much more difficult, but it’ll be worth it in the end. Have one captain toss all the blues over the boundary while monitoring them, and then have the other captain control 30-50 yellows (30 minimum to carry a treasure). If you have a larger group of yellows or many different types of pikmin actively fighting a Titan Dweevil, they’ll easily walk/fall into the wrong area and set off other bosses. With your 30-50 yellows, you can also exploit the Titan Dweevil’s shock therapist attack since it lights up the room and itself. When it starts using the attack, spam bitter sprays (you’ll need to bring over 150) and, with perfect timing, you can break off one weapon every time it uses the shock therapist. As an aside, save states are mandatory if you don’t want to go insane. They also help with perfectly timing your bitter sprays. Hope this helps anyone trying to beat Kaizo.
I just watched this series while replaying Pikmin 2 and it’s making me realize how evil the devs could have made it. Thankfully there’s a clear difficulty curve.
From a gameplay perspective, the pitch blackness is horrible. But otherwise? Kinda cool. I mean…you’re 50 floors underground, if it ISN’T painfully dark down there, it would be a little weird.
The Man-At-Legs can kill other enemies, so use their gunshots to do so. If enemies get too close to your squad, charge through to where the treasures are using bitter sprays.
I've seen hard games... Dark Souls? Yeah. Celeste's Farewell level? Yeah. Hollow Knight's Path of Pain and Absolute Radiance? Yeah yeah... but all of those are NOTHING. Absolutely NOTHING compared to this floor alone!
The days are 3 times as long as the normal game. I wish it was always like that. That’s the one thing about the hack that makes it way easier. You don’t have to worry about time
yeah kaizos are the type of thing i never bother with because of how difficult they are. A challenge is fine, but there's a difference between something being just plain hard and something being a challenge. Kaizos are just TASbait, through and through
It's a type of save emulators have that's completely separate from the game's save system. You can use it anywhere, any time, in any situation. He uses it to hold onto a good room generation so he doesn't have to keep resetting for a good one but you could use it for hardcore cheats like saving every time you safely hit a boss if you really wanted to.
You know heff, when you first break a cave hole's cover, it will remain broken even when returning through a cave. Now it would still suck to go through the dream den all over again but from what i remember the hole covers remain destroyed, so it would be easier to speed run all the way through if you were to.

When the crawbster thinks outside the box...
I once cheesed the crawbster in Pikmin 251. it accidentally clipped through a wall and fell into the void.
I was considering getting this mod, even during the Cavern of Chaos and the Hole of Heroes.

The worst part about this is that I have to praise EBTKS Paddy for their restraint in not including an Empress Bulblax crapping out babies.

I wouldn't recommend turning the music off because the changes in the titan dweevil's theme indicate which attacks he's doing

Enemy spam or pitch black. Pick one, not both

When removing the fog, it's revealed Crawbster is rolling around at Mach 5
I wonder how this fight would be like if it weren't dark
It would look reasonable
Probably a hell of a lot easier

Yellows (and Bulbmin) are busted in a game with instant kill electricity.
You're a boss for even attempting this. Respect.

Hearing the Flare Cannon music for an hour would kill a normal man
Cant believe I just watched an hour long video of you ‘pussyfooting around in the dark’ good series, sorry this last bit sounds like hell lol
How tf did Louie get down here anyway
He made all the spiders dig holes down
The same way he blew up the wall in the Garden of Hope in Pikmin 3

What a series. Very fun to binge lol

Uh oh, the Titan Dweevil turned on dark mode.
Anyways, this series was fun.
This is above 10 on the salt meter.
thats just bad design tbh when darkness gets used meh
This is like Kaizo Mario 64’s Bowser in the Sky all over again!
This entire level was bad, but adding mitites was plain mean
Anyone who designs a level like this should be banned from making ROMhacks (or any type of game) for life.
As cool as it is to see pikmin like this, it's an unwatchable video because its just black the whole time.

can we see this level with lights
