Publio, captain of praetorian guards, comes to arrest Sesto for the attempt at killing the emperor. Sesto obeys and tells Vitellia that even now he still loves her. Vitellia feels guilty and weeps in despair and repentance, Publio is touched by her tears, but nothing can sway his loyalty to the law.
Here the director obviously had some unusual ideas about how this scene should look but both singing and acting are superb. I highly recommend this DVD to every Mozart fan.

Luca is such a wonderful baritone. He has a beautiful clean lyric voice and has made a career of singing these Mozart baritone roles.

Vasselina looks amazing in this production... I love that her hair was "long" and the fact that she is NOT trying to convince us with fake stupid "masculine" mannerisms.

i agree! it sounds and looks better on dvd. get it from your local library i would suggest and burn it on your hd. it's mesmerising from beginning till end...

VITELLIA:Mi laceran il core rimorso, orror, spavento!
Quel che nell'alma io sento di duòl morir mi fa.
PUBLIO:
L'acerbo amaro pianto, che da' suoi lumi piove, l'anima mia commuove, ma vana è la pietà!

I love the vieni at 4:39, but my favourite is Che crudelta at 6:20 and 6:31!!

I dunno... I still like the Opus Arte production better with Susan Graham. The singers there are truly the best, but it's all a matter of opinion. I enjoyed this as well though.
