Apart from durian, mangoesteen is another fruit very popular among tourists that’s also banned from hotel. Even us Thai were dumbfounded for a while to why it was also banned. The fruit has barely any smell; until you realized that the pigment and resin in its peel wont go off when it stains any fabric at all, especially on white towel and sheets hotels always use.
FUN FACT: 'Durian' comes from 'duri' meaning 'thorn' and 'an' meaning 'having,' so it means 'having thorns.' Besides durian, there is also 'rambutan,' which comes from 'rambut' meaning 'hair' and 'an' meaning 'having,' so it means 'having hair.' The fruit itself is small, round, and hairy. Like durian, FORTUNATELY, people call it by its local name, 'rambutan,' instead of translating it into something like hairy balls.
@@Bloodstar-o7 First, I am *NOT* calling them *THAT*. Second, personally speaking, I think theyre not berries, let alone being too big to be called such in the first place
You can say that durian have a...thorny reputation around public spaces You can also say that rambutan's name has a...hairy implications if you translate it
When I went to Malaysia my hotel room had a sign. "No Durian Allowed - RM 500 cleanup fee". It's apparently that expensive to clean up the smell Also we call kolang kaling as kaong here in the Philippines
It makes sense that Durian is banned, the smell of the fruit is more than atrocious, like, really REALLY stinky, and it will last for days, so yeah, not a very good idea to let someone eat that fruit and make that smell last in a hotel for various days
Sadly all those asian and south american fruits that are really cool looking are not available here in germany, it's already super rare to see something like dragonfruit or mangostan here.
Sugar palm fruit is pretty interesting. It is purely sweet...not that it is as sweet as pure sugar, but rather that there is no sourness, no bitterness, no savoriness, and no saltiness. It's very mild and is more about taste and texture than flavor/aroma. The age of the fruit has a huge impact on its texture, with younger ones being like a firm jelly, but older ones being downright tough (go for the younger fruit).
That's subjective, some people like the smell, some doesn't, me personally goes to the first, at least I think their smell doesn't belong to the level of rafflesia's or shit's kind of smell
I wouldn’t say it’s the FOULEST smelling thing in the world, but if it’s your first time encountering one, it is a shock to your senses. I’ve definitely smelled worst. The scent itself is hard to describe, it’s almost unique.
Oh boy. It reminds me that time a friend brought durian mochis but I couldn't eat them because the smell was awful. And I couldn't even keep it in my mouth because unfortulately I have a cleft palate (I got surgery When I was a baby but there's still a small hole that is connected to my nose) and I can smell it through that damn hole! 🤢
Are you psychic???? I just tried some Durian candy that I got from the Thai store in my area. The stuff tastes like eggs, ham, pineapple and baloney mixed together. ueueue🤯😭

Oooh...thats...mindblowing 🤯🤯🤯
@@IsAcRafT Funny thing I might add is, while durian is crowned the king of fruit, mangoesteen is also crowned the queen, and both are banned 😂
@@ws.hicks0214ikr
oh yeah mangoesteen resin stuck on my nails for days, i have to cut the nail and carefully wash my hand to get rid of it

Both Durian and Rambutan are already cool names, let's not translating it into something worse....
We could call them Hairy Berries. 😂

Once could only imagine if the rambutan is native to the USA. We might've called them Joseph's Hairy Scrotums.

Durian is banned because it is highly explosive, as it turns out *[citation needed]*

I can't believe what the durian did to people's noses, here's a list of nice smelling fruits:
So durian is as dangerous as drugs and guns? Imagine someone using durian to rob a bank 😂
from what i've heard about the smell, it might actually work 😂
@@dead-claudia not in SEA it won't lmao
@PacmanButterfly connect it to a chain and you got yourself a flail. So yeah, its practically a weapon 😂
I've already tasted durian... And got PTSD from it.
Can't wait for her to return 😂😂😂❤❤❤
Maybe they just dont want durians stinking up the place. Would be cool if they made it a candy for America or something like that.
I have lived in Singapore for some time so i can confirm this
i tried durian once, it was way too acidic for my liking but the flavor was not horrible its just something i would pass on if offered again
In short: a fruit too delicious for worldwide to eat
Who was the first person to look at a durian and think "I'm gonna bust that open and take a bite"?
probably someone absolutely starving
it probably fell off the tree and split open
aw ya sad cause durian is actually smells good and one of my favorite fruit👍
i don't know why people.. yk.. idk
I've never experienced a Durian in person, but i hear they are the FOULEST smelling thing on the planet
That's subjective, some people like the smell, some doesn't, me personally goes to the first, at least I think their smell doesn't belong to the level of rafflesia's or shit's kind of smell
@aizero-ih3uy so what DO they smell like? I've just heard, "They smell bad. Really, really bad"
