This section help SO much in a) answering a few questions I've always had about the history of intellectual thought (why does Skepticism ALWAYS come back and is it possible or even desirable to get it to go away) and b) why we can't stop at Skepticism, why it's usually a starting point not an ending point. It also helped me gain a better understanding of the term "Negation" in Hegel, which is a term/concept I've always had trouble with (the other videos have helped immensely too). This section not only clarified Hegel but a LOT of other parts of philosophy (which I guess is actually a very Hegelian goal). Thanks!
You're very charitable to suggest Hegel's dismissal of "the East" was primarily due to a lack of access to their literature. I'm sure it's possible if he encountered good translations of such literature that he may have experienced recognition. But as a fairly well-off European man at the turn of the 19th century, I think it's equally likely that racism played a pretty big part in his attitudes toward "Eastern" cultures.
@@GregoryBSadler I only meant to say that ignorance or lack of exposure is directly related to bigotry. And most scientific studies on the subject have revealed that mere exposure consistently yields a reduction in bias (racial, sexual, etc).
Professor Sadler thank you very much! What , in addition to desire and Work , can push self-consciousness from being only free in Notion , stoic , to progress and be radically negative , sceptic ?

You're very welcome. Yes, skepticism remains a perennial possibility - and that's probably a good thing, when you think about it!
