Welcome to the world of symphonic metal! And thank you for checking this legendary band, performing here at Wacken Open Air festival 2013, together with Floor Jansen, the 3rd and present female singer of the band, in front of a 82k+ audience.
Also a recent sad news - these days Marco Hietala, the bass player and male singer of the band, announced his retirement both from the band and the public life for the next year at least - we'll see what the future brings to us.
About the instrumental and vocal added parts - it's good to know they recorded their orchestral and vocal back tracks with prestigious institutions as London Philharmonic Orchestra. London's The Metro Voices choir group and London's Young Musicians Children's Choir as their regular partners.
As I saw you enjoyed this powerful performance of the band, together with the stellar vocals and charisma of our Dutch metal queen, Floor Jansen. Hope you'll continue on this path.
Since this is your first Nightwish reaction, it is my duty to give you the short history of the band concentrated by Ann Waychoff, one of the biggest Nightwish fan who has since passed away (and I am doing this in her memory):
" Nightwish was started in 1996.They are considered a Symphonic Metal band, with a female main singer. They are from Finland.
Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboard player, composes and writes the lyrics for 95% of their music. Marco Hietala is the Bassist and vocals .And there is the guitarist Emppu Vuorinen . Then there is Troy Donockley from UK who is a multi-instrumentalist and vocals. Jukka Nevalainen is the drummer. In 2015 due to Jukka's health issues Kai Hahto became the drummer and as of now is a permanent addition.
Nightwish has had three singers. 1st one was Tarja Turunen (Operatic vocals). She was with them until 2005. The 2nd one was Anette Olzon from Sweden (Poppy, strong vocals). She was with them until 2012.The 3rd and current singer is Floor Jansen, from Netherlands (power, operatic, soprano.....most versatile) - you just heard her.
There are live concerts that you should use depending on what era. From Wishes to Eternity and End of an Era (Tarja), Montreux Festival live 2012 and Exit Festival (Anette), Live at Wacken 2013, Live at Wembley, Live at Tampere, Vehicle of Spirit, Decades live (Floor). I hope this helps.

It was worth the wait to see the expression on your face when Floor hit 'that note', at the end! Every time I've watched it (and it is many, many, times) I get chills and goosebumps when Floor hits that note. Incredible vocals, backed up by superb performances from all the band, especially Jukka, on the drums. Floor Jansen is a vocal athlete with incredible range, agility, versatility, vocal stamina, and stage presence. She is a soprano with a range of more than three octaves (D3 to F6). It is apparent when listening to her sing that she has spent the better part of her life fine-tuning her instrument with help from several vocal coaches. Floor can sing in multiple languages and genres and is a vocal coach herself. It is incredible how she is able to take any song and make it her own. This woman is a true gift to her craft and an incredible addition to a band that has always been great until 2013 when they officially hired the undisputed Queen of Metal Floor Jansen, making Nightwish the greatest band on the planet.
She can sing an entire phone book and make me cry like a baby.

Ik goes about the evolution of earth', Floor Jansen is a very versatile singer and she sings many other genres. Maybe, you love to listen to 'Shallow' from Lady Gaga, or 'The phantom of the opera' with Henk Poort.

Wacken 2013 best days of my life, even after that disastrous Motörhead gig. That very day i fell in love with Nightwish and esp. the goddess. One day maybe one day i slay Hannes and claim her for myself... well probably not.

Definitely no words needed here. Just looking at your face while living through this performance is a delight to watch. Clearly you were hooked, like so many of us. These compositions, the band and of course Floor they have a tendency to nestle in the fibers of your being, never to leave you again. It might turn into a wonderful addiction. Seeing that floorgasm never gets old.
This song is just legendary, you just cannot describe it in any other way. Thumas really made a masterpiece when he composed this song (so many other NW songs are just as amazing) But this song is one I've personally listend to so many times during the years after it was released with Tarja as a vocalist. The way it was made and how well each section of the song fluently float over into the next is just incredible. That combined with the voccals of Floor which can adapt to all the styles so well is just the perfect match.
If you enjoy this type of voccals I'd really recomand you to check out Within Temptation, with the song Angels. Their female vocal is just amazing in her own way and style and also just give you chills. Cause you cannot listen to Nightwish without being introduced to WT, cause they are rather simmilar in many ways, so check that out ^^

Glad you discovered Nightwish. Floor the singer here, was only drafted in a few months earlier in the tour, she wasn't even offically part of the band yet. The original singer, Tarja, left in 2005. Annette was the singer between 2005-2012. Floor is still the singer.
Next i would recommend Romanticide, from the same show, shorter song. Then I would suggest Phantom of the Opera, from 2005 with Tarja. Bothe of those you get to hear Marko the baseplayer sing as well. The next Big song is The Poet and the Pendulum, which is about the breakup of the band with Tarja.

Dear Morenikeji. As someone who has been involved in the music industry for nearly half a century I absolutely love it when I see younger people such as yourself react to sheer professional music class acts in these days of artificially produced plastic pop songs and the same old same old. It could be seen in your face and in your eyes. Nightwish are good, aren't they? Not bad given the band members are all a bit older than you might expect. Lead singer Floor Jansen in the video is in her thirties and the bass player is in his 50s. Not bad for old farts. Everyone who reacts to Nightwish comment on the sheer energy of the band. It's because they care about the artistry connected to what they do. You might also like to check out a Bulgarian band called Metalwings. Like Nightwish -who are based in Finland- they present their songs and videos in English. I'd be interested in what your thoughts are on that band. Best regards from New Zealand.
