Stop because married at first sight is quite possibly the best thing. But then I'm like oh you shouldn't consume drama, you'll attract it, you'll start gossiping... be careful what you adbsorb etc. etc. and like so true but its just also so good to watch

Taking a break from drinking for me helped me redirect myself, reading more, tarot cards, poems, drawing, walks in the park I was able to fill my cup in a different way i found it to be peaceful I ended up actually enjoying my solitude instead of running from myself and using alcohol as a clutch. and before that I was binge drinking on nights out now that I had a break I don’t want to drink as much and if I do I don’t mind being the deso driver friend. Thanks for making this video xxx

I gave up drinking alcohol at 18/19 for a least a year because I was deeply upset by the culture around me of young people in Ireland just getting pissed every weekend as a fun time instead of like trully connecting and making real friendships. It really changed my life! I began a whole self trajectory and found so much more things to do with my time. I started reading way more, playing music, going for walks etc and even connecting with my family. It is hard at the start and I did lose friends because I was deemed "boring" for not wanting to drink but ultimately I found out who my friends were! Im now with a partner for three years and we drink if we feel like it and we also try to ensure to drink for fun not for getting drunk because I realised I started to hate the feeling of being drunk after being away from it. We are very lucky in that regard and often will buy like non alcoholic wine on date nights etc!! It does not bother me at all if I don't drink now at social occasions if people question me i genuinely don't mind discussing alcohol with them but tbh I find a lot of people in Ireland get uncomfortable still!! But the more you don't care it gets easier. It's about reframing the whole thing in your head like you can still have so much fun sober you don't need drink to make you fun. I wish Ireland has more late night cafes... thats something Europe has really got but Ireland is behind on this. You wont miss out on anything, delete socials for a whole disconnect and you realise people talk a lot of the same shite haha and sometimes it's good shite but you realise like a lot of weekends are the same for young people just different location different people etc. you can still do everything you want whilst sober, its culture that will try drag you back to consumption beyond necessary (in every way not just alcohol) and it's up to us to realise this and make decisions for the good of our hearts and the planet. Good luck to you on this journey it is so possible, some people wont get it but those people probably are not your true people yeno, it's so fun to free ourselves of things that don't ultimate serve us in a good way ❤

I love your perspective on drinking and totally respect it. Ik this might sound dramatic, but I find it crazy that as a society we just accept the fact that we poison ourselves “for fun” and then do shit we’re embarrassed about etc. I feel like it’s such a cop out to drink to be confident etc. like I get it, but it’s so much more fulfilling to just learn to have genuine, authentic fun. Idk. I do drink tho so I’m also just a hypocrite.

Quit Like a woman, such a good book. I detoxed last year for a few months, now am more intentional/less dependent on it to have fun/socialise, will have 1 or 2, I just drink slower. It's tough cos we've numbed out the emotion/thoughts with it but feeling again is vital for women especially, connecting back to our gut instincts, our intuitions, our creativity etc. All The suppressed emotions rising to the surface though is the toughest part I found. but worth it for the clarity, peace of mind after releasing them. You said you wanted to be convinced, so for me it has given me greater capacity to feel in general.. Sensitising again which allows for more access to actual joy, presence and appreciating the simple things, not just chasing the highs. Been more discerning about who I genuinely want to spend time with and not. Your art is beautiful now, like..the process of detox and feeling again will really ignite even more creativity from within you.
Melanie Murphy/her sis did some vids on going off alcohol. Tracking my cycle too has been life changing, our hormones are effect us ya know.
Anyway not to sound preachy, just I see my younger self in you so much. Not a saint by any means myself 😂
But yeh, be kind and patient with yourself. Grá mór ❤

Hey Saoirse, 8 months sober here. Definately no guru. Just my experience. I did it because I wanted to increase confidence. Like be that person I am drunk but sober. Did it overnight after sending it too far after my graduation, felt awful next 2 days. I must admit it was hard. I then freshly started dating somebody who drinks copious amounts but it worked, and still works. I enjoy a non alocholic lager and we go to the pub together like we would if I also drank. But I won't lie, I think a lot of things would be easier if I drank... difficult conversations with people (as you could blame it on the booze opening up even if you have semi control but are being possessed to do it lol), bonding with people deeper/ letting loose, having more stamina when seeing my friends. etc.
But ultimately, it pushes me to have those hard conversations (even tho I mourn how easy it is to excuse it or have liquid courage) and then I guess I don't overdo it, I have the moral compass which doesn't make me dart over the line. It also encourages me to have more depth to friendships instead of drinking and deeping things the next day. I have definately seen distance to one of my friendships, because for some, I am no longer an enabler. For some, it doesn't help their own insecurities knowing I am able to keep an account of the night/ perhaps holding them more accountable? As opposed to blurring my own timeline of events alongside them and everyone else... a night of empty blurs. I guess my presence can make it real for some... by that I mean the one out of many of my friends. In other ways, it's paved a new light into my friendships. I am an enabler in other senses- creating a sober, chilled atmosphere. No pressure *to* drink. We can hang out without jading intentions of the evening. We can meet for a drink and know we are meeting to sit across from one another and catchup. Not excuse our drinking habits.
I enjoy being sober, I enjoy not feeling so insanely insecure after a social gathering, dissecting my entire performance. I enjoy giving more substance to gatherings- arranging games or choosing an enjoyable atmosphere. I enjoy calling a night a night when I am crashing, knowing that the evening has most likely peaked and I am not dragging it out for no reason but merely keep necking more drinks. For me, when I drink, I go all the way. I now see so many people week after week fuelling themselves with alcohol which I now see as clinging on, hiding behind a mask, excusing oversharing, minimising themselves to a walking talking unconcious version of themselves. I just wish that everybody could step into their own and be intentional with their words, their actions. Do things for themselves, gain confidence doing so etc.
But then, perhaps I am just not drinking becuase I have somewhat of a streak going. So many things would be easier. But a lot of things will also be harder.
Ask me a year ago I would not expect myself in this era. But it feels protective. I am looking after myself, present and future. And healing past selves which done some pretty silly things drunk.
PS. I have loved ones who are bad alcoholics and perhaps I love them so much that I hate that part of them. I see them in myself when I get possessed by alcohol. It's heartbreaking and I wouldn't want to end up doing that, or scarring my loved ones in a similar way.
I hope perhaps you got something from reading this, but it's okay if you didn't. Just a collection of thoughts and experiences. None that are inherently right or wrong. All of the love, you look after yourself Saoirse, it's a crazy world xxx

This of course is entirely based off of my own experiences when I drink... not everyone shares the same experience I know. People can find balance, people can be a version of themself which they later don't have to dissect, people can keep drinking to enjoy their drink and not for the sake of just doing so. But based off my behaviours and pressing the accelerator until I fall off, I wrote this in the mindset of what I do when I was to drink extremely. Or some others. No judgement here. Pros and cons both ways !

    • @Daisyhstone
      @Daisyhstone 9 месяцев назад +1

I also have so much more time? Like I know my weekend routine, I know my week routine. I don't have to factor in being hungover. I can trust that I know that my time won't have a huge chunk bitten out of it. If I am seeing friends, I am seeing them for that evening. Not that evening and then some time being in bed regretful. I am doing more things that inspire me. I feel more creative.
Also around the 6 months mark I suddenly did start craving alochol alone but it went again. Like I guess it's waves but I just shut a switch in my brain and it's like 'no I don't drink' as opposed to 'I'm currently don't drink'. I remember like a couple months in saying that and holding myself accountable to the fact that I don't drink alcohol and people being like yeah but... yanno. Also I always get asked why I don't drink. I think people want some massive reason. As if I did something awful. I now just say I don't fancy it. But people expect so much more from me. But I get asked all the time. I think it is easier to drink non alocholic beverages and not say anything or it be mentioned. Which sometimes now I am amped cos I am amped to be with my friends having so much fun enjoying being in my existence and I know some people think I am drunk and it's also accepting that people categorise my extreme moments as that. When I don't want excusing. Like I want people to realise that you can be such a fun part of yourself whilst sober. But then also like I need to accept that it's okay for people to think that because it shouldn't damage my ego that people think I drink, it's totally okay. People don't need to know. My moments and experiences are shared entirely with myself. For myself.
I expect I will stop typing now cos I could say so much :')

I do however also feel a lot more uptight. But that is something I can personally tackle looking inwards. Not outwards as a way to cover it up. Lets tackle those tricky moments babyyyy.
Speaking of. I find when I go out with my friends now, I am dancing to live music wayyyyyyy before they are cos they need their courage juice. Like come on step into the moment and loosen up for yourself yanno

Thank you so much for your amazing insights!! You’re so well spoken and seem to have such an articulate awareness of yourself and your needs. I wish you the best of luck and will definitely be keeping the things you’ve said in mind. I think the alcohol riddance is maybe more of a removal of suffering rather than a dramatic change of mood. I think there’s maybe space for more now. I completely relate to the feeling disconnected to others because of your literal different levels of consciousness!! I hope you find peace in it all, it seems like you have xx

I quit drinking many years ago and the downside has been it's even harder to socialise with people, especially folk from Britain and Ireland as it's part of our culture. When everybody else is pissed and you're not it's a struggle to be around, especially if you're quite introverted too. I hope you find a good balance with this journey. Good for you. Xxx
