The new deluxe songs are also good endings to the album with it tying up threads from previous songs as well. Stranger and Girl Ive always been tied up Vampire/Bad Idea/Get Him Back/All of her breakup songs from sour into a closure song (which she never did, probably because of the grudge). So American is a perfect way to end the deluxe by having references to Scared of my Guitar (turning the “I cant sleep when Im with you” as a positive thing) and being her first love song in her albums (giving us a hopeful teaser for what’s next).
After so many breakup songs (which I love, to be clear), hearing Olivia Rodrigo sing an upbeat song about falling in love is a shock to the system in a good way.
