Thanks again to Skillshare for sponsoring this video!
I honestly think a lot of us would like to see more stuff like this in general
2nd this. don't underestimate how big of nerds we all are...
This kind of content is not boring at all!! I have learned so much things!
I love that you include the troubleshooting along the way!! Sometimes "perfect" tutorials just confuse me more. Seeing Benny run into the errors and just keep on working really reduces the daunting nature of entering new territory :')
Great video, I'd love to see a video on 3d scanning if you guys have time
Benni claims he isn't "that clever," but figured out how to make foam patterns by using the tool meant for making textures on 3D models in Blender. This is like when Svetlana says she can't sew.
I also said it took me a looooong time to figure out x-)
Such a helpful video!
Can we get Benni to do an audio book or story time with Benni very soothing voice. Epic work!! The eva dream team!!!
Very well done. Thanks, Benni. You don’t need to worry about videos being too long for us. You two are at the top of your field, so anytime you are willing to share your experience and suggestions, it will always be appreciated. Stay safe.
There is a simpler way to know the measurements of your UV map when exporting it. Just export as an SVG and open in Illustrator. This file format is a vector image, so you can resize, measure, edit etc just like an AI file ^^. I hope this helps!
That's very cool! I'm gonna try that out!
3D Head/Face Scan is a must have tutorial!
When my daughter asked to be Donnie from Rise of the TMNT, I despaired, because Donnie has a tech shell that he wears and she wanted that part. After watching this 10 times, along with your beginning blender guide, I have ACTUALLY managed to 3d sculpt the shell, size it to my kid, print the uv map, hold this thing up to her, edit the shape in blender to fit better and print it again. I’m no expert with foam so it may yet go wrong, but I’m so excited that I got this far, and I’m so so SO grateful for this tutorial! THANK YOU!!!!
I've been working with Blender for quite a while and I recently got into cosplay again. I did not know that you could use Blender for it!
Thank you so much for this. Now I can actually use my skills to make things for my cosplays.
More BENNI!!!
I'M TRYING!
We love seeing Benni!! You two are awesome together! Benni, listen to the boss :-) and join us in more videos please!
It's 2 years on so maybe you've discovered this add-on by now but just in case... There is a free add-on called Seams to Sewing Pattern which pretty much does what it says. It exports at scale and also adds registration marks to help match pattern pieces. Created by a clever person named Thomas Kole.
Oh my goodness a head scan video would be super helpful! It is a major stumbling block with me when scaling 😅
yeah i just plain want to know how the dink that works. can you do it without some kind of 3d camera?
3D Head scan is a must have tutorial!
got a camera? photogrammetry is easier than you think.
Any video with Benny is 100% Gold love you!!!! And ty so much
A trick for getting your scaling right in one go: Add an additional object to your scene that acts as a scale bar. In this instance, I probably would have used a rectangular prism that's 10 meters long (in blender space). When you export its UV, you know that you need to scale your image until it's exactly 10cm long.
What I really like about you guys is that you are not arrogant or anything, you explain this in a way, everyone can understand it and you don't hold back. Investing in your books is surely something that pays out in the future. Happy customer here :)
Wow this was so useful, so detailed and yet easy to follow! It's so impressive how accessible your instructions are, thanks so much!
I'm a bit of a Blender nerd and and also a cosplay nerd so this content is bringing my hobbies together! Super productive! Thankyou
This doubles as fantastic tutorial for when i feel like doing my own patterns, and a reminder that I can just support you both and purchase the patterns I need from your store!! love it, I would love to see more content like this in the future!!
UV unwrap works better than the paper, I can't believe it! I always thought UV would lose the relations in the proportions and form but it doesn't. I tested and it even works better than the paper method. Great video, thank you for sharing
Loved this and it was super helpful. Thank you!
Corgi! Also very grateful for the in-depth videos- not just for learning how to do it yourself, but also for deciding if skills like Blender are something worth learning for your own lifestyle, time constraints and tech savvy-ness. I really appreciate you showing the entire process from start to finish, even with all your experience, so beginners truly understand what it takes to get from screen to paper to foam. This video helped me realize a hands on modeling method is better for my learning style, but also I that just buying y’all’s patterns is definitely the way to go for my needs 😅.
Today I started my first Blender tutorial because I want to model a prop. Three hours later you dropped this video. What kind of witchcraft is this?
use cinema4d instead.
Excellent work Benny!!!
This goes to show that no matter how knowledgebleable of blender or any other tool you are, some things only come with experience and trial. Awesome super insightful video!
This is really helpful! especially because blender seems to daunting to beginners! thank you!
Are you kidding? I love content like this!!
Well done, Benni! I know Svetlana is our cosplay darling, but I really enjoy the technical stuff that Benni's videos tend to be. I've watched the airbrush videos many times and it's cool to have another one of Benni's vids to add to the rotation.
Thank you, for demonstrating how you make-ish the horns and things
Benny, I always watch You and spatlanta. Make your cosplay costumes, and it's always better to know extra stuff. That you didn't know, thank you. You have a great show.
WELL I KNOW WHAT IM GONNA DO TODAY THEN LOL
SCHLATT COSPLAY COMIN UP
ME TOO
One of my fav tutorial videos by you guys so far. Showing the potential errors you can get when trying to export saving ALOT of confused googling
This kind of content isn't boring at all. I learned so much. I'm a novice with eva foam and this is my first time working with it. Your video helped me a lot with learning how to make horns for my Tiefling cosplay. Big fan here.
Honestly even myself i'm surprised with how interesting the video actually was! Your explanations were really clear too, so I could see myself following it through if I ever had the need to for any of my pieces!, but still looks like a veeery difficult work hahaha
This was fantastic!! Extremely useful information, and I always love seeing how you've applied blender to cosplay.
Exactly right Benni, this kind of video isn't going to get the same *volume* of views as some of the others on this channel, but for those who need it, it's absolutely invaluable. Quality over quantity!
We need to see more benni with horns/ props lol. Love it!
I was skeptical when you said you were gonna make horns out of cubes, but dang it man, you went and did it, and it looks great!
Like I said, I don‘t know any other way
Very good info here, thanks for putting it together. I work with leather on occasion and this definitely helped fill in the blanks for getting a 3D idea into a 2D pattern
sehr geil benni. freu mich immer wieder auf eure videos. vielen dank fürs teilen. ps die hunde sind super!
Love these types of videos. Practical how-tos on techniques that haven't been covered a lot are super useful. I'd love to see more Benni painting videos as well.
This is so helpful ! Thank you a lot Benni !
How did you know I was looking for this exact tutorial??? I’ve been Googling “making horns in blender” for the last few days so I could make my own pattern for foam! 😃 This is awesome! I’m so happy!
I have seen your first Blender video several times as a guide - this one will I look at just as much. Thank you for sharing, it's a big help for me to improve my own art
This is crazy helpful! I've had a project in mind for ages and couldn't wrap my head around how to make it - thank you so much!
I have been learning Maya and Blender for about 2 years now. And of all the classwork and tutorials, I haven't come across how the modifiers work. Until this video lol
Great video! I learned some new things! Keep up the good work!
Omg thank you so much, you made it so easy to do !
this was honestly great! i use blender all the time but never thought of using it like this for cosplay!! thank you for the knowledge!!
Not boring! I love the deep-dives into technique. I get to see how excited and skilled you guys are at your passion!
THANK YOU for this, I've been looking for giant ram horns for a WHILE, even making my own patterns, but nothing has been right before this. I can't wait to make them!!!
i need more 3d printing tutorials ! i go by my... your book
as a person in 3d Animation/modelling, this was very informational and awesome to watch !
I love this kind of video! I want to see more like this.
Wellllll done 👍
Thank you so muchhh!!! This is just the thing I need 🔥🔥🔥
idk if this would be ya'lls thing but I would love to just sit here and watch benni stream him making stuff like this, I find it so fascinating
Would love to see a video on more 3D modelling! It's so useful!
Honestly I liked to hear you as well. You both are amazing.
Great video! Thank you!
Absolutely useful video, I'm not into making cosplay gear, but it's super interesting to see how different techniques can be used to bring a digital model into the physical space.
This was fantastic! Thanks Benni 🙏
Love this content!!! Thank you so much!! :)
WoW!!! It's really helpfull.
I didn't ever think to use UV-mapping for make own patterns
Thank you
Finally got to this video! Thank you so much!
yes, so much 💕 for ya guys! I enjoy learning from your methods to adapt for my projects.
Hey guys, snag them books 📚
Thank you! It's very useful for a 3D part of cosplay outside the body! I'll try for my latest project in costume design. :)
I'd like to see more vids on making models for 3D printing, I know you did a lot of 3d printing for Aloy, and with another game coming out soon, I'm sure more ppl will be looking for tutorials on how to make stuff like that
This is fantastic and useful. Thank you
Thank you
Excellent, I would definitely enjoy more of these more technical videos.
You guys must be a blast to hang out with! Love your videos, appreciate you sharing with us!
omg more please!!!!! super great content benny.
I think this kind of content is also very interesting, I would love to see more :)
I really enjoyed this vidéo, tour teaching style is much calmer and more soothing that Svetlana's, ans that was a great clear tutorial that made me understand a lot of things. Thank you Benni!!
upon watching this i just had to buy the book. sadly since i live in the philippines i can only buy the digital copy. thank you so much benni!
This is a great video, thank you for sharing.
This might be the solution I needed for a piece for a friend, thank you!
Lovely video! Thanks!
This was super useful benni ! I tried paper export in blender and didn't like it. But now I'm super excited to try it again with your technique!
Never thought I'd be this happy to actually know how to use blender... FINALLY.. why did I not think of ever printing anything jsjshzxojshs
You make it look so easy!
Right? But we spent so much time figuring this out lol
Just for Benni: Corgi
Love your tutorials. The Fusion 360 helped me jumpstart a little project totally unrelated to cosplay. Your craftsmanship can be applied in very versatile ways😀
Very useful!! thanks for sharing
Scanning a head? YES PLEASE for that tutorial
Best line of the video “I Googled Epic Ram Horns”. Hahahahaha
Super helpful video! Thank you!!
Awesome!!!
Followed your first steps to blender video and made a model of Taro's mask (Kena bridge of spirits) but then couldn't get it to unwrap at all so came to this one to have a go at a simpler patterns first.
Made Kanna Kamui's horns and they unwrapped perfectly first time when following this video!! Cant wait to size them up correctly and maybe print them out and have a go at making them!
But back to the drawing board with Taro's mask with my new found knowledge from here XD
Thanks Benni for the help!!
This wasn’t something I thought I needed but it’s very inspiring. Now I just have to finish my other hundred projects so I have room to try this.
Never knew you could do that in blender, thanks!
It might be the quarentine but this was wildly entertaining! I'm really tempted to learn how to do something like this now, thanks!
Great video as always!
This was extremely helpful, thank you
You can also take the pattern, use a cheap digital projector and project on to a full sheet of EVA (4'X8'). You include a scale reference (6" square surface). I then just trace. Just pay attention to lens distortion (use center of projection if possible). I use that workflow to make 5' long tentacles.
This was cool!!
Glad if you liked it!
Great Tutorial!
I’m not into making cosplay outfits, I don’t cosplay nor do I dabble with Blender, but here I am lol. You make a great teacher! Your accent reminds me of someone else I used to know. I think she was Polish. Welp, I’m halfway through the video. 🍿🍿🍿
