Love this video. You inspired me to go as minimal as possible for Christmas this year. I’m getting both my girls (age 13 and age 6) 4-6 items each. It will depend on cost mostly. Thanks so much for being you and always inspiring me.

We don’t go crazy for Christmas but we definitely spend on experiences, hobbies, and sports for our kids. Glad I’m not the only one who only buys 5-6 gifts each. 😅

You are correct in your idea of gifts.

This video is incredibly refreshing. I've seen parents give more than 5 gifts per child. That's crazy to me. I was born in a 3rd world country, and getting 1 present was more than enough. The holidays were not about gifts but spending time with the whole extended family. I remember getting together with cousins who lived far away and having the time of our lives. ❤❤❤

Love the idea of the Yoto mini! We only purchased a couple items each for all our littles this year! We usually try to stay very minimal with Christmas as they receive so many gifts from other family we just don’t want them to be so overwhelmed by the amount of items they receive. This is our first year we decided to just have a very slow, calm Christmas Day (we usually are running around to everyone’s houses). Looking forward to our Christmas morning together and just spending the day at home ♥️

I’ve heard such good things about the Yoto! Plus my kids would prefer audiobooks anyways. We’ve never been over the top with Christmas gifts, but do enjoy some quality things. 🤍

I have 3 daughters now. I stopped going overboard 2 years ago after realizing how many gifts they got from family and friends, as well as when it came time to do donations to make room for new items, they were selecting items they’d recently received. I’m very intentional in gift giving with them now. 5-6 personal gifts and 1 large sibling gift. I’ve also scaled back stockings as well.

I have two kids, in their 20s, and even when they were little at most they would get 4 gifts each from me. This year they are getting 3 gifts each, plus stockings, keeping the focus on being together and enjoying the peace of family time. Great video! 🎄

My 12yo doesn't play with toys. Just the ps4 and her phone. That's a crazy amount of toys!

My 2 year old has far less than the average child and yet he still doesn't play with all, in one week, let alone one day or one month. All he wants is to copy me, watch Bluey and play play play with anything that doesn't involve sitting down on his own without me.

We’ve also decided to add the Karuba board game after seeing Ralphie from Simply on Purpose recommend it for family game night.

Thanks for the idea of the Yoto mini. I will put it in the list for next year because this year we bought each kid 2 KiwiCo Christmas+growing plant projects, each kid will get a book and maybe an electric toothbrush. That is our minimalist Christmas/New Year gifts for kids. 😊❤️

Our son has a few basics, he’s preschool age. It’s magnatiles, legos, and cars/trucks. He would be perfectly happy with just 3 small bins of each category. Last year he got tool bench set, cooking oven set, cleaning set and doctor kit. However all of those specific kits are hardly used. He actually prefers taking everyday household items instead. He will play for an hour straight using his imagination for “restaurant”. Whereas if he uses his actual set he get bored.
It just goes to show that kids really don’t need a lot. This year I was more specific on toys. I had my son help me go through all his toys. And wouldn’t ya know he said I could sell all the specific kits! I wished I had stuck to my minimal preferences last Christmas. It would’ve saved a lot of time and energy not managing all of those unnecessary items.

Yes! Legos, magnatiles, craft supplies, and Barbies are the biggest hit in our house. 😂

I'm super hoping the magnatiles will be a hit here.

I got my son a yoto mini and knockoff magnatiles and toy cows haha did you get jackets for the yoto?

    • @lindsaysimplified
      @lindsaysimplified  9 месяцев назад +1

I didn’t do the jackets, but I may. Also considering a case for the audiobook cards.

Mines going to a toddler so figured the yoto could use any protection it can get haha
We got a little credit card wallet because I know we will be on the go with it a lot but I'm looking into how to store cards we are saving to give him later

It’s sad when people buy their kids so ridiculously much stuff for Christmas - it just leads to entitled kids that think everything is about them, and totally misses the true reason for Christmas. From my perspective, I wouldn’t even say this is a small amount for kids Christmas gifts (it’s a little bit more than I typically get for my kids) - especially if you’re expecting them to get gifts from other family members. Good for you not going overboard though!!

I’ve been bracing myself for how controversial not spending thousands on Christmas gifts for small children can be. It’s crazy to me.

My 14 year old son and 12&1/2 year old daughter still play with toys and do lots of project with art supplies. They don’t have phones or tablets. Their creativity on fire. They do for sure have less toys than when there were in elementary school.

Our kiddos have been out of the house for years , we got them 3 gifts apiece . We figured if 3 were good enough for Jesus that's good enough for us .

Yes!!! I don’t get a lot of toys for Christmas! 1 toy, books, puzzle. For stocking: Yoto cards (I got the Yoto mini last year), and electric toothbrush!!
They already have everything they need! I’ve seen when they have too many gifts for Christmas, they don’t appreciate it!
