Choosing to Take a Massive Pay Cut + 5 TIPS for Living on Less
Просмотров 6366 месяцев назад
In today's video I discuss a little (without going into too much detail) why my husband is looking for another job, even if it pays less. His current job pays very well, but also comes with a lot of stress, very little job security, and long hours. He currently still has his job, so his job search and willingness to take a pay cut is voluntary at the moment. Thanks for watching! Like, Subscribe...
Quick Apartment Tour | Family of 5 in a 2 Bedroom

I did a quick updated apartment tour since moving to save money. We are currently a family of 5 ( 1 Golden Retriever puppy) in a 2 bedroom. It's not as nice as our old apartment, but saves us a significant amount each month. WHY DIDN'T I SHOW THE BEDROOMS? Before I get asked this question a lot here is my answer: our kids are currently using both of the bedrooms. We were sharing a room with our...

Get Your Life Back | 5 Steps to Reclaiming Your Life
I love this idea. It really does allow for many types of situations/and conversations to happen. I feel like this would be good for my husband and myself as well. We find ourselves keeping the tv on as background noise. It’s almost like a crutch. I had started doing no screen time the mornings my husband works. Those mornings go so much better than when my husband is home. Our kid sees dad as immediate screen time and then drags on to get ready for school.
This is a great idea! Definitely gonna try it out with my third grader.
We are in 4th grade with Memoria Press and it is amazing! My son’s favorite subjects are Greek Myths, Christian Studies and the American History readers.
If you have a free kitchen outlet hang a small wall lamp on tje wall in the kitchen or a small lamp on the counter. Even if you leave it on a lot it is only 1 bulb and gives nice subdued light
I have a little lamp that takes a regular led lightbulb on my kitchen counter because I don’t like my kitchen dark either but don’t want to use ALL the overhead kitchen lights. It’s less than $3 per month if I estimate the highest possible usage and our power company rate of $0.16/kWh and that’s if left it on 24 hours a day (I don’t) so it’s a price I’m willing to pay to enjoy my kitchen. Just an idea if it’s worth it to you also.
I've been watching your videos for awhile now, but your Gilmore Girls reference just made me subscribe 😉
Ha! I just told my husband the other day that I just want to spend the money and buy the entire series on iTunes instead of paying ridiculous prices for Netflix. 😂
I enjoyed this video!
We tried Memoria press but my kids hated it so much. I still wanted the classical model so we chose veritas press. Memoria is very good but very dull and boring for kids that thrive off color and games.
I like parts and pieces of MP, but it’s just so much work. I’ve read forums of families who can’t do anything else during the week because MP takes up basically their entire life. 😅 We’ve used their Latin and Grammar mostly, while using BJU Press in our hybrid school. I also bought Classical Conversations Foundations book to work on memory work (without the book work). We aren’t joining a CC community as of right now. Let me know how you like Veritas!
@@lindsaysimplified I like Latina Christiana but might switch Latin programs next year
I go to thrift stores and buy good quality things and have them for years. I get rid of them not because they are worn out but because i am tired of them. I can spend between $15-$20 and get around 10 tops. Gives me variety too. I understand why you dress the way you do but i really enjoy getting dressed everyday 😊
How do I become more minimalistic?
I have 2 laundry frugal tips for you. Buy some dryer balls. They might cost more than sheets but you won't need to replace dryer sheets regularly. You can hang drying clothes, on coat hangers, from the wire shelves in your laundry, above the washer and dryer.
So I just looked into Mint, after I was ready to checkout with the $15/month for unlimited data I read the fine print and it says it goes up to $75/month after that! How do you keep it at $15/month??
To keep it at $15 per month you’ll pay for the 5GB plan for 12 months (after the 3 month introductory). It’s $180 + a few dollars in taxes. I just paid for an entire year for myself. We pay a little more for my husband for more data. It was $240 for the year for him for 15GB per month of data. Hope that helps!
Looking at the plan options on my Mint app there’s no option for $75 a month. The highest monthly is the Unnecessary Plan (unlimited data with 20GB of Hotspot) and for 3 months (most expensive) it still only comes out to $50 a month. Mint gets cheaper the farther out you pay.
Frugality, minimalism, and homeschool... those are all of my favorite types of videos 😅
I love your videos, this was a really good one! 😃
❤👍
You are wise beyond your years ❤️
Vet care. You can get dog vaccines at your local farm supply store and do them your self. Look for a local rabies clinic for low cost rabies vaccine.
Are you doing this with the bju stuff? My kid goes to a hybrid school also, but he’s doing different stuff on our 3 home days. One of those things is story time treasures and another will be prima Latina but I won’t start Latin until January.
Yes, I need to do an updated video. We are not using the entire Memoria Press because our primary focus is the hybrid school (Abeka and BJU Press). My first grader does Abeka with the hybrid school and my third grader does Abeka Math and everything else is BJU Press. However, my third grader has a teacher that isn’t great and really doesn’t seem like she knows what she’s doing so we’ve been supplementing with Traditional Spelling from MP, the third grade MP math, and still doing Prima Latina and the 3rd grade read alouds from MP. I don’t see us doing the hybrid school next year based on how chaotic it has become (growing too fast) and how much they raise rates every year. So the plan is full time MP 2025/2026.
@@lindsaysimplified oh man, that stinks. Can you get out of this years contract early? Sometimes that’s worth trying. My hybrid school says you can’t, but realistically they evaluate on a case by case basis and many people have left (for various reasons) without being required to fulfill the entire year. I love memoria press stuff, but we also love dimensions math and logic of English. Idk how long we will last at the hybrid school since I don’t prefer their academics, but we really really love the community and have been connected with it since my oldest was a baby.
Loved this! We are thinking of homeschooling in the future with our 2 young kiddos. ❤
Recommend you stop tithing till you save up 20% to avoid paying PMI. Then you will have more money later to give to the church.
Hi Lindsay. I just found your channel today and I've been binge watching it. I've been watching Prepper Princess for years, she is great. I also watch Under the Median. Pennies to Dollars and Frugal Money Saver are also good channels to watch for frugality. I am very impressed with your money saving measures. You will have your house downpayment soon! And you are correct, every little bit helps!
I’ve never heard of Pennies to Dollars or Frugal Money Saver! I’ll check them out. Thanks for being here! 🤍
My goodness that’s me thank you for explaining it 😄Lynn why I do what you did
I love your mindset! Thank you for sharing about contentment and being bold about your faith! 🙏🤲
Oh no I love books in the house .I have two lol.
Could you elaborate on on this Jessie and wab/wnb podcast?
It’s called The YNAB Podcast. You can find it anywhere you get podcasts! Jessie is the founder of You Need A Budget (YNAB).
I’m frugal. I’m also a Christian that tithes, and gives to different ministries. I like having savings for the future, and emergencies. God bless you and your family.
Wasted money!! CULT
If you're married, your husband must save a lot of money. 😂
I am married, and he’s probably more frugal and a better saver than I am. 😆
I’m at a juncture of wanting to quit my job to be a stay-at-home mom. My job at a toxic firm has given me extreme anxiety lately. I could pick up some side work when I want to, but be home with my sons and maintain the house. We are frugal, Aldi shoppers. My car and RV are paid for and I have zero debt personally. Husband is paying on the mortgage and we have a lot of equity. Everyday I’m asking God for a sign to let me know when to quit. Thanks for mentioning the flexibility of being unemployed in your video.
I will shop the Spanish grocery store for meat really great prices there also other ethnic food.
Debt free is an amazing feeling
Organized and calm
Its all about balance
Terrific list. I’m doing much of the same.
Excellent video. Piece of mind is priceless.
I had no idea about air frying eggs! Thanks for the recipe ideas!
Loved this video and I’m a fan of prepper princess as well. I would love to see a grocery haul and simple meals.
👍🏾 🏴🇸🇪🇹🇹
Awesome 😮😊
Enjoyed the video! Trying to minimize our household inventory as well. I am curious, do you have a separate area for educational items such as puzzles, Play-Doh, blocks? For me its hard to down size these types of items and also keep them separate from the toy boxes and bins.
We have a cabinet under our school work that has all of our games. Since filming this video we have also added Magna Tiles. I typically just set a physical boundary around these things. We can get a new board game as long as there is room in the cabinet, otherwise we have to get rid of something.
@@lindsaysimplified Thanks for the reply! Great tip! Our homeschool stuff is one of the hardest areas to keep decluttered. 🙃🥴
Awesome 😮😊
Great video! Loved your tips!❤

I appreciate your videos. I call myself more Minimal, than Minimalist. One thing that helps me not to spend too frivolously, is to think about the effort it takes me to declutter responsibly, and Ive made many mistakes in the past.
I'm a senior citizen, have enough money, but enjoy the subject of frugality. Not having to dress up for anyone certainly saves money. I have to watch myself, however, lest I slip into being a slob.
You go girl!!! I agree with it ALL.
I love the priorities especially retirement and helping the kids get a head start thru education and home ownership. ❤👍
My first time here .i like you already ❤️love Hope And Larrry
I was wondering how you eat carnivore ish on a frugal budget? Most of the frugal budgets use pasta, rice, beans... I am struggling to stay in our food budget. I have also enjoyed becoming more minimal the last few years. It's a blessing.
We average about $800 for our family of 5. Once I went Carnivore the need to snack/eat constantly went away. Plus only buying eggs, dairy and meat cuts out a lot of expensive prepackaged junk foods. I think any way of eating can fit within a budget with preparation and work.
@@lindsaysimplified Just found your channel subscribed great info!! I too am a carnivorish eater and yes meat butter bacon eggs chicken sometimes and a few veg like green beans sauerkraut pickles etc has me spending less I eat everything and am not hungry so not snacking and zero processed foods is great savings and the sale cycles are usually 6 weeks so I just stock up and freeze butter bacon burger etc. Working out great for the way I now feel and my pocket book too : )
How do you resist temptation after a period of a few months not to splurge?
If it’s truly a need I will replace/buy the thing without guilt. Otherwise I tell myself that I have everything I need. I also use the “if it’s over $30 I wait 30 hours. If it’s over $300 I wait 30 days” rule from The Minimalists.
I find after a while it becomes a habit, I binge watched Dave Ramsey , it was like a crash course on money management for me, keep at it, it will become habit & you will resist splurging. (But still have the odd treat or life becomes dull, this isn’t about deprivation 😊
