@@jacobharrod6912 Thats a great question, when stains come back its due to wicking. Thats when the stain burrows itself into the sponge or underneath the cloth due to over saturation. Thats why its always a real good idea to use forced or compressed air to dry the area and really see how the stain has been removed. If the stain hasn't left one can keep trying but there is a threshold. Depending on how bad the stain is, it may have permanently stained the fibers. Its always good to know when too much is too much as well. Its always better to make it look better than damage the fibers because its permanently stained. We hope this helped answering your question =)
The problem with headliners in my experience is that, much like with microsuede, you have to clean all of it, or there will be a visual transition from the area you've cleaned to the area you haven't. When you've got a headliner that filthy, though, that's pretty much a non-issue. It all gets cleaned.
@@angelmarie140If you've got a very thick microfiber towel you can dampen it, apply a little cleaner to it, and then go over the entire headliner before blotting it off with a dry microfiber. You just need to get the entire surface layer of fabric mildly saturated with water and detergent.
So In order to not leave behind water marks do you have to hit the entire headliner ? Cause no matter how careful I am with the carpet cleaner it still leaves a water mark behind. Try to dry as much as possible but some how I see a small water Mark. Also what APC do you use?
Thank you! I just got my car this year and of course didn’t realize it had leaky took until after I signed the contract now I’m stuck with it. Hopefully the rust stain isn’t too old and I can get it out 😬
I followed your method with simple green and now the wet spots dried and the border of simple green is visible like previous water stain... what did I do wrong?
OMG.. I'm looking how to clean my jeep and your video is showing that of a jeep as well. Hmmm do they all leak? I bought mine used. 3 yrs old and noticed the headliner stains much later.
My friend I would gladly hire you to do this for me but i don't think we live close. Those stains look exactly the same as the ones i'm dealing with. What all purpose cleaner are you using?
Mine got a tiny black dot on it, i rubbed it, now its a black patch, im half thinking of just dyeing it black now because every time i touch it it makes it worse
Was the leak actually fixed. Just checked and cleaned my drain lines in my Jeep Liberty. The driver front was actually off the fitting causing my headliner to look just like this jeep lol gonna give this a shot
How do you prevent dirt rings when cleaning a headliner? Example when using a product on a nice size stain...you clean the area, but when it dries you can see a outline of dirt from the cleaned area. Thanks.
He didn’t use water to soak the headliner. I think that’s when you get the “dirt rings”. But i myself would rather soak the headliner with water AND the cleaning solution, so I can extract as much dirt AND cleaning solution out from the headliner. The method used in the video clearly leaves much of the cleaning solution still in the headliner, but I guess that’s the safer way to clean the headliner without getting those dreaded “dirt rings”.
@@mansandem I thought the same thing. I know with cleaning carpet, soap residue attracts dirt. Not sure how that wouldn't happen with this. I'd want the soap gone lol. I have a bad habit of over rinsing everything. 🤷🏼♀️
@@AimeeNapier4KingdomAdvancement I would clean it with the solution, let it dry, then maybe the next day spray a bit of water and wipe it so that it won’t get over saturated. If it does , the headliner can start drooping down since the adhesive isn’t gonna stick as well
I had a sunroof leak and stained a good size area . I used distilled water and microfiber towel . A couple of times. It worked good but I got to with in a day maybe getting to it fast helped but distilled water worked .
You can do it by hand using microfiber towels and a good all purpose cleaner. It’s going to take a lot of elbow grease. I would try the al purpose cleaner on a small part first to make sure it doesn’t damage it. Also try to use minimal amounts of liquid as this can alter the adhesive specially on older vehicles.

A professional detailer demonstrates forced air to dry the area which actually acts to seperate the fabric from what it is glued to. Extractor would have been a better method. The vacuum forced the fabric to remain engaged at final pass.
So you’re saying saturate the area with an extractor potentially causing glue failure since the extractor doesn’t totally dry the area? The headliner did not separate using forced air so not sure why you assume that

Great job. Never thought of using a polisher before. Normally just a APC, towel, and muscle.

Use a dry light Brisle brush to fade/blend the edges while it's still damp. So that when it dries they will be less noticeable/ not noticeable.
