Johanna Meier is magnificent - she makes Isolde sound so easy. Lyrical with enough power at the top. Beautiful round sound. Ideal - and she looks like a Nordic Princess! She has been too easily forgotten..........
King Marke's aria is one of the most beautiful arias, very touching, here beautifully sang and acted by Matti Salminen.
ageless prajna I
Upon initially listening to Tristan, I found the part proceeding "Rette dich, Tristan!" rather dull and uninviting. However, having obsessively listened to the opera for a year since, I find it (particularly King Marke's lament) to be one of the most moving parts of Act II. This rendition, as you point out (and rightfully so), is amongst the finest and most moving that I have heard.
Strangely, I feel like everything grinds to a halt when the king and his courtiers catch Tristan. But I know I just need to concentrate on that section a few times without watching the whole opera.
i would have to look it up, i believe it was the late 70's or early 80's at the Met. Salminen was singing king Mark. the house stopped 😳 , the embers of the soul glowing as he sang. hard to talk about such naked greatness
GOD!!!!! WHAT AN OPERA, JUST LISTEN THIS POWER WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW
most trascendent music ever written ...
yes
The Everest of music will never be bettered. Sublime is not good enough to describe it.m favourite opera by a very long way.
Baby One More Time , Brittany Sparse?
Thank you, Gaston, for uploading this stunningly clear and beautifully recorded Act from Tristan and Isolde!! ❤️❤️ 🎶
Thank you very much! You make the world a better place. The more the better
The dramatic tension created by Wagner is almost unbearable-yet, we endure because we sense the naked profundity of it all.
unashamedly passionate!
Shameless hussy...no sympathy for her.
Formidable musique.
Tristan & Isolde, le Ring et Parsifal, trio gagnant du Grand Richard Wagner
et Lohengrin & Tanhäuser !!!
After Martha Mödl is Johanna Meier my favorite Isolde, she has got such a gleaming and youthful voice which hits the role in a wonderful way. The production is beautiful to watch at.
Melchior und Flagstad, überirdisch
@@elsalohengrin7777 . They were giants for sure. But i appreciate the most the Bayreuth recording with Mödl and Vinay under Karajan. There is so much passion in their singing.
Melchior and Traubel.

sublime
The end of this act is one of the most devastating I know of. We all know how it feels to have (been) betrayed and how you just want to disappear (when it all comes out)... "Wehr dich, Melot!" - or desperately plunge into death. I know of no other example of theatre where this conflict is shown as brutally honestly. Othello maybe. I cannot watch / listen to this without being in pain. Wagner was and is incredible.
And a damn good baseball player...Honus.
33:05 - love duet - O sink herrieder, Nacht der Liebe
Now that’s the way it should look!
I've seen many live productions of this opera. This is still one of the greatest. The performance is en pointe
I remember being at this video lab at Carnegie Mellon in like 99 or 2000. Someone else was playing this version in their cubicle. Somehow i was mesmerized .... visually... which seems weird... but maybe not really
The Singers' names! Honour their immense work, at least with recognizing them. Matti Salminnen, and ?? Not to mention the director...one of the truest moments I've seen is 32:34, beautiful understanding..and this is one of my roles..!
amazing
La mejor parte empieza en 38:40
48:40: So sturben wir, um ungetrennt
sublime!!!
Oh it's Barenboim-Ponnelle, I think-so Johanna Meier is Isolde; Hanna Schwarz, Brangäne; René Kollo, Tristan; Hermann Becht, Kurwenal; Matti Salminen, König Marke; Robert Schunk, Melot; Helmut Pampuch, Hirte; MartinEgel , Steuermann
branganes voice is great
Thank you......from Greece
stunning thank you
Schwarz and Kollo are unbelievable.
The last chord at 1:22:54 - Rachmaninov used the same chord with the exact same orchestration for the beginning of the 3rd movement of his 3rd piano concerto; does anyone know whether he did this on purpose?
@Asjop Wefjop thank you for the clarification! I went by „sound“ alone and as it turns out, my ears are insufficient.
Who are the other singers in the cast? (Besides Salminen as King Marke, I mean.)
Joanna Meier & Hanna Schwarz
tante grazie
Why did they turn the lights out? :(
Who are the conductor orchestra and singers?
Questa musica è diretta emanazione dell’Assoluto ❤️
absolutely alive, resolutely deadly
This was a good production; however, I believe that the 1995 Bayreuth production by Heiner Müller had more "energy" in it. For example, compare this video's "Liebestod" with the 1995 version sung by Waltraud Meier (Isolde).

13:27 cáustico!
2:02 Forza French horns !
Now Listen to Bruckner Symphony No 4 Scherzo 😄😉
Did people go hunting at night, in mythic times?
Jack Housman Brangäne told Isolde: the prey they’re searching for is of another kind. She was refering to Tristan as the prey
Maybe it was a Wild Hunt.
sodelicious............
Brasil música Boa !
Where was this recorded?
In Bayreuth
Who is this Isolde? Thank you!
Maria Callas
@@draganvidic2039 You're wrong. It was Zinka.
Johanna Mayer Isolde, und René Kollo Tristan
How it should be done.
BEAUTIFUL.Not ugly as today with the awful Barrie Kosky and other sick pepole 😢
And the cast is......? Besser spaet als nie.
Commercial interruption within the first few minutes…sacrilege.
