Lots of incredible talent. We were lucky to see these entertainers. Flip had a great show
God bless these wonderful, talented, and gifted Black artists. Just can't count their contributions to our nation's culture -- it's immeasurable!!!
I love Roberta Flack. She sings so beautiful ❤️. The first time I heard her was 1972 in Puerto Rico. Singing " Killing me softly"
Roberta Flack one of a kind ! Love her ❤️
1:20:26 of pure entertainment, talent that's pure, a time when black entertainers looked out for one another and had fun doing so, not like the cutthroat acts of today fueled by money, thank you Flip you are one of the great ones and i can imagine the fun you and your friends are having in Heaven
Wow! Stevie and Flip are SO talented, they play off each other beautifully. LOVE IT.
Telling the truth about something is not being disrespectful. If we can’t take a little criticism we are hopeless.
Stevie Wonder song brings back such nice memories .
For those that are interested, the singer in the beginning of this show is Roberta Flack. The name of the song is entitled "Let It Be Me".
so that's who SADE stole her sound from...
Thank You !
@@sallypeters5482 one of my all-time favorite lady singer.s. It's funny you said that because when I hear a lot of Mis. Flack's classic songs Sade often comes into my mind.
@@sallypeters5482 Every Singer inherits from another singer that he or she listened to.
Nothing like Sade.
Jackson 5 rocking it , and, you could glimpse the future preeminence of Michael in the music world.
A time when music was really music. Love all of the performances.
Thanks for sharing this . My uncle Bob Henry was the producer of “ Flip “. He told me the episode with Stevie that he knew Stevie like to be teased about his site he walked up to Stevie and said “ Stevie , stop staring at me “ Stevie thought that was funny as hell .
Think about it we had three or four of these shows plus Soul Train, AB, Midnight Special, Don kirschner, every week on free tv.
Also Dick Cavett, Carson, Merv Griffin
It was awesomeness every week!
Loved this. So many AMAZING ARTISTS!!!❤️❤️❤️
Love the skit with Roscoe Lee Browne, a joy for me. 1:07:07
Thank U for this i will watch it over and over again !!!!
Lol I think Aretha low key was crushing on flip! Lol!
That's the Chi-lites at 44:45 singing Oh Girl not the Stylistics
Flip Wilson show brings back the 1970s memories. It was good to see Roscoe Lee Browne a very intellectual soul brother.
Great Compilation!!
This is 100% Pure Class!!!!!
Ray Charles was really a excellent performance..
Loved this. So many AMAZING ARTISTS!!!❤️❤️❤️
BEAUTIFUL BLACK TALENTED WOMEN CLOTHED IN BEAUTY ( AND OF COURSE NOT NAKED BECAUSE THEIR NATURAL TALENT SHINES NO NEED FOR ANYTHING ELSE ) WITH THEIR BEAUTIFUL NATURAL HAIR AND GODLY PROUD OF THEMSELVES AND SO AM I…!!!!!🥰🎤🎹🎼👏🏽💕👑🙏🏽
OMG . . . this is too much fun to be watching almost 50 years later!
I know it's a sad story, but good to see Donny Hathaway in his prime, once again.
Oh my, Roberta, ARETHA, Ray, J5 _ MICHAEL, Mahalia ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤; Cassius Marcellus Clay _ Amazing! Live footage is phenomenal! Praying for Roberta's longevity.
Aretha really brought it on with a rendition of "Rock Steady."
way to fast tempo.. .completely destroyed the "groove" of the original.. but it's typical to do that to appeal to a wider audience.. slow BPM is indicative of funk which was look down upon back then, too "black".. wasn't until the 90s that mainstream caught up (and that's not from a google search ;) ).
Dear fabulously fantastic, funny and fun, fine (phine!) Flip and Mr Wilson ... Dear Roberta and Ms-Madam Flack who "KILLS US SOFTLY WITH HER SONG"s eternally in ways that art "MR and Ms MAGIC" ... Dear Stevie and wonder called Mr Wonder with those exquisite lips, vocal dexterities and vocal controls ... Dear 'Bookman' Johnny Brown (there goeth 70s humour cracking Uncle up all over again with that 'platonic relationship' joke that hath resulted in Uncle's laughter causing Uncle's neighbours to question his sanity !!! ) ... Dear Madam Re-Re Aretha (very true ... through thy music we shalt be "JOINED TOGETHER FOR ETERNITY" ... if not be "ROCK SOLID" ... because that's just "WHAT IT IS"!!!) ... Dear Cassius Clay a.k.a Muhammed Ali ... with that voice of his that causes effects that are best left undesribed for the sake of being family-friendly ...
Dear Mahalia slash Ms-Madam Jackson of the Gospel and Reverend Cleveland kind who seems to be taking Flip himself back to a church-inclusive childhood ... Dear 'Jackson Quintet' (talented childhood phenomena of Joseph !!!) ... Dear Ray and Mr Charles a.ka. 'The Genius' (such a beautiful, gravelly older being ... oh so 'gravellisticaly' beautiful !!!) ... Dear "MELODY ... ALWAYS HAUNTING ME and FUNNY STRAIN ... RUNNING THROUGH MY BRAIN" Lena and Ms-Madam Horne ... Dear Melba and Ms-Madam Moore ... Dear chic Chi-Lites who deliver songs based on real emtotions as opposed to fantasies ... and design their own clothes ... Dear Supremes for whom Uncle still feeleth "WONDERFUL, SWEET, SWEET LOVE" ... Dear Staple Singers, fronted by Mavis, ("PLAY IT DADDY" !!!) whom Uncle still respondeth unto when ye say "COME GO WITH ME" ... Dear Rocsoe Lee Brown of the 'Shakespearean actor breed' ... Dear Donny Hathaway whose music transcendeth far beyond just "THE GHETTO" ... Dear unmentioned musicians and all behind-the-scenes contributors unto set and performers ... Dear fabulously fantastic, funny and fun, fine (phine!) Flip and Mr Wilson ... and dear publisher
'nameyoufriend' ... The beauty of Uncle's day hath only increased!!! Blessings upon all of thee in multiples, many decades later !!!
T Y ,
This is incredible!! Worth gold😀!
I LOVED the Flip Wilson show. Flip Wilson’s face when Mahalia Jackson is singing! 26:30
These were the days when female entertainers were classy and tasteful and real. They were not over painted over eyelashes ,over breasted half dresses and just
Plain over the top and men looked like men. These entertainers got buy on talent and not by twerking and cursing. Oh for the good old day when people had
Respect for them selves.
That was Mahalia Jackson’s last television appearance. She went home to be with the Lord three and a half months later
Travis Reid she's still one my favorite. ..I have uploaded her life story video too
Thanks for the 411. I first learned of Mahalia Jackson watching the old classic: IMITATION OF LIFE. Very moving solo by Mahalia Jackson.
I could literally listen to Roberta Flack sing 24/7.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
1:07:06 Loved this skit for Peabody's coffee. So glad I found this clip, love watching it over and over. Please what is the name of the actor in the skit?
Roscoe Browne
Flip Wilson flipped the script.
Love fip Wilson show especially Aretha Franklin Stevie Wonder Roberta flack Maihaha Jackson the cast excellent.😊❤❤
Lovely Roberta Flack, Chi Lites, Staple Singers!!! Owwww
Wow, decided to watch a few more minutes and JOHNNY BROWN WAS GREAT! I guess I'll wait to see it looks like Aretha Franklin.
Flip Wilson's show makes me feel young again. I was always working across the hall at Dean Martin's show or Laugh-In. I did have the opportunity to do geraldine's hair once in awhile. As they say those were the good old days
That's George Kirby from The Kopycats. Johnny Brown played Bookman on Good Times
One of my favorite shows of all time.
Love fip wlison show
Beautiful together fip Lena one my favorite show
Great show love I t
SANG IT ARETHA…!!!! 🗣️🎹🎼👏🏽❤️👑🙏🏽
Whole show excellent 👍 thanks for sharing 😊 love you fip Wlison always 🙏💟💟
Aretha that voice is heaven sent
I remember some of these performances from my childhood. Stevie's appearance is clearly in my memory bank. Wow, Melba Moore!
I was coming to throw shade that you didn't include the Pointer Sisters doing cloudburst but since you got Aretha doing that funky ROck Steady, shut the damn door, you rock!
Also, include Roberta Flack doing Mr. Magic live.
What a lovely song. I never heard it before. But anything Roberta Flack sings is beautiful. Yay
Do you have Mahalia’s other song? It was “Just a Closer Walk with Thee”.
Does anyone else feel Melba Moore is under the influence of something, Never can say goodbye?
I made some comparisons between entertainers from the past and those of today , but my comments were removed. I guess no free speech.
#1 Show during Flip"s hey day
Classic era of black excellence. Never to be duplicated ever again.
Surely thank you after my binge of vol #1 best of Flip Wilson ..... yearning for more I thank you 😢
Roberta Flack
R. A.W: reality always works . RAW talent
44.45 is the Chi lites not the Stylistics..
Roberta Flack's voice doesn't need a single thing added to it. No flourishes, no riffs or runs. It just pours like the most luxurious wine, then becomes bolder and more complex with each sip.
Three powerhouse female singers on the same show!!!!!
Does anyone have Nancy Wilson's guest appearance with Flip?
Great compile. Thanks for posting
I used to play ps3 with you 7-8 years ago mane skate 2 memories love u bro
This is timeless PURE D CLASS !!!!
maurice CARTER u must be from eats coast..lol@ "Pure D" that's some DC ish right there 🤣
That would be the Chi-Lites, not the Stylistics.
Donny Hathaway... legend
This is such a great video. Thank-you!
These entertainers had class and taste.
